What the production rule produced right out of the gate, a works bike for the masses. They were considered one of the best production motocross bikes ever and still rank up there with best forks ever so maybe the one owner (now two) 1987 CR250 will qualify for this post.

I never had the chance to ride the '86 or '87 CR250. I rode the '85 model a few times and can't say that it really impressed me other than the ergos but my favorite bike of all time was the '88. For some reason that bike was magic for me. Were the '86-'87 models really that good?

I want to do an 83 CR480 with a 19in rear wheel and Showa twin chambers up front BADLY for 30+ open class.

I heard the 84 500 dry barrels are junk though, anyone have any legit experience with the 82-84 Honda open bikes?

The 83 CR480 is a bad ass motorscooter. Trey Jorski races one around Texas a bit and I'll guarantee he could kick some modern bike ass with it. This is the view most of us get.Laughing

I think there is a reason why all the 83 CR480s you see for sale are 1500 bucks and say "AHRMA" in the subject line, where as the 84 500s are 300 bucks and are spray painted flat black.,

Yea.

these frame conversions are getting more and more common, and with that raises the percentage of hack jobs.

There is a photo of am RMZ with an RM engine floating around FB right now. The engine clocking is so far off that the cylinder head is rocked all the way forward like a 125. It's almost like he wanted the pipe to clear the "Y" without having to raise it that much, so he just rocked the motor forward until it cleared. I'll see if I can find it. First glance, you immediately know something is.....off

That cylinder head looks pretty well suited, where it should be? Any further back, it would look strange? Maybe a bit low? Fill me in here...

Damn, I'm really curious how it would feel to ride one of those. No one pays attention to those in my neck of the wood. Maybe one could consider buying a wreck at some point?

But is it worth the trouble considering I could buy a 1990-2006 smoker for anything between 500$-2000$?

Here is a thought.. Since Stewart's Supercross season has pretty much been a wash, it would be cool if he raced a Factory RM250 in Vegas.

i have been waiting to post this up until the truck makes it to reno but what the hell! After 11 years of no riding because I decided I broke enough bones and needed to "take life seriously" I pulled the trigger on a never ridden 2006 KX250!
