I was looking at BTO sports yesterday and saw the new Airbrake goggle and I was shocked to find out they are $160! The Villopoto goggle was $175. Who is going to buy a $175 MX goggle? BTO also had 2012 Scott Hustle goggles with a chrome lens included for I think $32.95. I waste a lot of $ on MX, but I can't justify $160 for goggles when I can get a great pair for under $35. Does anyone on here plan on buying the Airbrake goggle?

They have to charge us chumps $160, they send them by the crate to their support riders for free.

Hell, 10 pairs of goggles should cost as much as a good used 125, no?

Don't worry, there are plenty of riders and parents that MUST have the best no matter the cost. I'll keep buying my less expensive models during close outs.....

As the ad to the right of my screen says... "I am invincible". $160 is a small price to pay for invincibility.

I crapped when I saw Dragon goggles for $100, this is nuts.

Why "Airbrake" Is that what kind of noise you make when you see the price ?

have to say after having a pair in my hands its easy to see why the price tag is so much more , heck the thickness of the lens alone had me sold

I put 35 tear-offs on my goggles to emulate the lens thickness. Cheaper than $160.

Stupid question but why would you want a thicker lens?

$160 is a highway robbery, I will never buy a pair of goggles for that price.

Love my crowbars. They were pricey but not that pricey.

Especially for something that does nothing more than get covered in dirt.

its not purely the thickness tbh its the strength and material its made out of seems good too , yes i agree theres no shortage of overpriced gimmicks and fads in moto and i wasnt overly sold on the price when i first heard it either but having seen a display sample and had a muck about with them they seem legit , cant wait for my pairs to appear next month Cool Cool

I had that same thought right before I ordered a pair of Oakley's for $70 and that was after the %40 buddy fee. Then i settled for a blurr cheapy for $10 after %60 off lol.

Remember those Oakley goggles with sort of a rounded convex lens? I think they were from the late '90s or early '00s?

I remember Larry Ward wearing them the year they were supposed to come out. Pretty sure I never saw them for sale but they were touted as the next great goggle.

I give the Airbrake a year before Oakley stops selling them for MX.

I'd buy a pair, Oakley always charged for quality. I love those things. I own three pairs of O frames with different lenses (clear, orange and dark tint)and two pairs of sunglasses.

Oakley is all good dont get me wrong. Just some times they need a head shake on pricing.

You can buy a lot of replacement lenses for the extra $130 you pay for those goggles...

The add to the right of my screen says "beyond reason"...and I have to agree, it is beyond reason why anyone would pay that much for goggles. It just makes no sense.

Dragon have had an "airbrake" Mx goggle for some time now haven't they?
4/11/2013 6:20pm
I understand that it might have higher end materials so it will last longer but come on, you can get 3 or 4 really really good goggles for that price, and they will last much longer than 1 single pair of airbrakes. Me personally, I would rather have 4 or 5 pairs so I can have a clean pair for every practice and moto. I can't justify buying 4 pairs of airbrakes, and I guarantee you a clean, dry pair of O-Frames is more comfortable than a sweaty pair of Airbrakes.

I am gonna get a set. I am super picky with goggles, as most make it hard for me to breathe the way they sit on my nose. The airbrake looks like it will totally elimate that problem, being very rounded around the nose area. It's only money !!

I just bought some dragon NFX frameless goggles, I paid $83 for them and they came with 2 lenses and a nose piece.

I've only worn them once, but DAMN, your can see so much more with your peripheral vision compared to a standard pair of goggles, oh, and whatever kind of lens it has in it destroys glare from the sun and sharpens your vision.

Plus, they aren't mud collectors like a traditionally designed goggle, and removing the lens is a piece of cake!

Watch the 2 videos at the bottom of this page...

First Look: Oakley Airbrake Mx Goggle

...if you've ever seen your $50, $60, $75, or $100 goggles be able to take that sort of damage and still protect your eyes, then by all means, do not buy the Airbrake Mx goggle.

It's like they have said with helmets. Why buy a $100 helmet, get a severe concussion, then be buried in medical bills, when you can buy a $500 helmet and potentially avoid all that?

Can you put a price on your eyes? I mean, you only get one set. $160, to me, is cheap when a golf ball size rock is traveling at my goggles at 100+ mph.

Just my opinion. This sport has never been a cheap sport. Deal with it...

Any old folks remember the Jones Goggles? They had a thick lens that was curved for great vision. They used to demo them by shooting them with a 22 rifle and the bullet wouldn't go through.

I remember Jones goggles. I believe they were a sponsor during the early years at Loretta's. I am pretty certain I have a bib from LL's in '83 with their logo on it.

Agree with most of you in this thread. Not gonna tell anyone how to spend their money but $160 for a pair of goggles is outrageous. You will not catch me buying these anytime soon.

The kicker for me is most people will spend $150 on a pair of Oakley sunglasses because they think it will somehow make them cool but they won't spend that much on a pair of goggles that protect their eyes from flying rocks, dirt clods and dust.

Stupid humans.....

I can't wait to try these. I can justify $92 for a pair of goggles, but $160? They can keep them. How is the fitment around the nose? I have a hard time finding goggles that fit me because of my nose.
