That's what a 250 needs, twin pipes. Such innovation.

Until they release a document with facts on why they choose single to dual pipes on a 450cc and 250cc single cylinder engine, I will continue to laugh at them and consider it stupid as hell.

Dual Pipes = Twice the Power

Plus increased mass rear centralization, with additional pitch and yaw control......

What doesn't look badass is the receipt for aftermarket dualies.

So if they released a document with facts, you'd feel better about it?

The foam is likely to help reduce noise levels for sound testing. Sometimes you'll see the inside of the side panels on airboxes lined with that type foam.

Show me a $4000 version with 95% of the power and handling of the 2013 and they would have my money today.

That's called a used bike.

Yes, I believe sound meters are placed at a 45 degree angle from the silencer. The foam is supposed to help sound defelction. Not sure if it works but it looks cool. Well, it looks cool for the first couple rides anyway.

From my point of view the duals are easier to meet the 115db 2 Meter Max FIM sound requirements. Looks like it goes to 112db in 2014. Fact is muffler construction is getting more complicated, expensive and restrictive. With the duals we have two ten inch mufflers to dampen sound with compared to ten to fifteen inch single. There is no argument that you can make more power from a single when noise is not an issue but with the new sound regs I prefer the duals. Also don't compare what 450 and 250 factory supported teams are running for mufflers because you can't buy the mufflers or the electronics.

What's the purpose of sound testing anyway when the bikes are clearly louder when the gate drops? If I simply alter the ignition while in neutral......

112db in 2014? Fricken hell! These things are gonna sound like sewing machines. They should go back to 96db and call it a day.

I think that Bike looks Sweet and love the Twin pipes, all I'm waiting for is for the CRF450 to come out with an Electric Starter like KTM and a set of Black rims and I might be at the Honda Dealership. My KTM 525 XC-W has Electric start and I can't live without it now, so I'm kind of spoiledSmile

1. That bike is simply beautiful.
2. I'm gonna race one & put it in my current stable of Red-Abundance.
3. Those Twin-Silencers? Yup! I'm keeping'em & making'em lighter...and...FARTHER Forward/Down.
4. I already have the wheels! Bwahahhahaah!
5. The HRC stuff for that bike is gonna make some of you cry.

I don't believe you. There is no way you are buying anything other than a Kawasaki.

You will never ever fly through the air sideways ever again thanks to that second muffler. Unless you do it on purpose.
4/5/2013 2:08pm
You guys that can't comprehend the duals are funny.

The muffler required to keep that bike at 112db is so large that it has to be split into 2 mufflers. If it were a single, it would be longer than the rear fender, at which point you retards would be talking about how large the muffler is.

So why doesn't every bike have dual pipes guy? I get what DL said and it makes sense but dual pipes is the only answer to meet sound requirements now?

Exactly, I work in an engineering department and can read technical documents. Facts are good, marketing is good as well but more useless to me.

If they come out and just say they have to go to a dual setup to meet the sound requirements they seek then fine. I can buy that much more than random BS like "mass centralization" and "helps you not tip over".

What's the difference in the electronics? Are they just playing with sensors and clock speed?

Surprised this hasn't made a comeback...

It never left. You can find it on certain Suzukis...and Hondas...even Factory Bikes, on occasion.

Btw, those of you that haven't thrown a leg over the new CRF450R?
Well, you don't know, understand or even have a clue about "Mass Centralization".
it feels Soooo much lighter than it is; hence, they got it right...

MASS CENTRALIZATION.

Go chat with The Ryno on this one. MC, too. This is where some of you imply that they're just sell outs or they don't care; bacause, they dont have to pay for anything...blah, blah, blah.

Ryno ran Duals on some of his Suzuki 450s. MC got to test Singles straight-up against Duals. Back to back. Guess what he picked...? Ask the Euro-Factory Honda guys how much THEY'VE HATED the POS hangin' off the side of their bike BEFORE the "New-Dually"...did you ever get a good look at that Suit-Case that was hanging off of the '11-'12 HRC bikes? Yech!

Also, Honda did this BEFORE the "Noise Problem" ('06-'09 CRF250R...remember?) and now it's back and gives them a little extra capability to handle noise.

So, some of you can jus' keep whinning about the "Duals" and the rest of us will just run'em..
Because, we can.

I'm jus' sayin'...

Interesting take on that but I haven't heard of anyone going from the duals to a single side pipe and complaining about it. My whine is that no matter how you distribute the weight there are places on a track where a 250 lb pig is gonna feel like a 250 lb pig. I love technology as much as the next guy, but my guess is that using technology to knock 10 lbs off of your current 4 stroke will do more for the handling than redistributing the weight.

Wish we had bigger pics of it!
