That guy is never coming to the U.S.. KTM is grooming him to be the next Cairoli. They already have stateside talent.

That would really be a shame. Talent like his should be competing against the best in the world and if he goes the same path as Cairoli he will always have that label of winning in the second fastest world championship. Of course he is the fastest in the sand but that doesn't mean anything if he doesn't win in the states. Roczen beat him plenty of times a couple years ago and how many wins does he have outdoors? The MX2 class now is so weak in the world GP's compared to the AMA series. You would think Herlings would want to be the best in the world and compete against the best in the world. Same with Cairoli, but then again some people are comfortable sandbagging and afraid of defeat.

You can really get a sense of that fear when looking at this picture of him lapping the AMA champion. Though I'm not sure the fear is in Jeffreys eyes....

If a rider wishes to compete in SX they'll go to America. If not they'll stay in GP's. Pretty straight forward.
Not true, searle, rattray, and musquin skipped sx to race the nationals. Plus riders like albertyn and Tortelli came mostly for mx and only one of the riders i named got a AMA national championship.

Searle and Rattray thought doing outdoors first then doing SX would give them extra time to settle in to US life. It merely underscores their determination to succeed in SX that they wanted more time to prepare for it.

All of the riders you mentioned went with the aim of succeeding in both SX and MX. If they had no interest in SX they wouldn't be there in the first place. That's why you don't see top MX only riders such as Nagl, Philipaerts, Ramon, Desalle etc. racing Nationals.

Musquin injured himself before the 2011 SX. He also raced 2 SX races back in 07. Check yourself, before you wreck yourself

He proved he's the fastest in the sand, but will never be the fastest in the world until he wins the fastest championship series in the world. There's no doubt about how good he is and I think he's amazing but like Cairoli, he will never considered the best until he beats the best in a full AMA championship. It really sad actually cause he would be a great addition to the fastest championship series in the world.
Your series won't count as the fastest either, since none of the current top guys ever nailed a GP championship. Just like the current GP top guys never nailed an AMA championship. But i guess that logic does not apply to the theory. Wink

As much as I adore Herlings, I am not sure what was so cool about that video. I hope that track was testing for a specific track style, I have better tracks for my RC cars than that. Not trying to be negative, and his corner speed is impressive, but nothing exciting there and the lame track is probably to blame.
Also.. The Netherlands is quite crowded, and filled with motocross hating (so much noise!!) people, so we dont have a whole lot of tracks. Over the past few years more tracks have been closed due to noise, or some nature preservation shit. Its not like america where we can just buy some land and build a track. So yeah he has to train on crappy tracks sometimes :p

Track looks flat as a pancake. Reminds me of some dusty old Texas tracks back in the day...

I am with you. I learned how to ride where Microsoft corporate campus now sits. I broke my femur on a CMC track that 10 years later I bought a house in a subdivision built on that track. I think this trend is more of a global thing. Electric bikes will help this!

I think the thing that makes that video so cool is the fact that he's riding such a shitty track! The fact that he is on a slippy, poorly prepped track and yet still just looks like he's on rails.

Maybe that's partly why the oldschoolers get all dewy eyed about the tracks of yesteryear. We just dont see our pros competing against each other on surfaces like that with such little grip, where line choice is not as obvious as - 'pick one of the 3 ruts in this corner' etc.

Damn it's hard to believe the kid's still only 18 ,insane skills, that throttle control on almost concrete is like Supermoto, while I have no doubt he'd adapt to SX and do extremely well Outdoors in the US,I didn't think he was interested anymore??

Should be some great battles with Cairoli next year,I like the look of him on that 350 Wink

maybe just being old , but there was some dam great racing on tracks like that ,lines everywhere and no were , not like some of the big rutted messes , we sometime get , with only one good line the whole way round , love if they had a couple of pure hard pack tracks , even twice a year ,

Not half as funny as watching AC come here and take Herlings on in HIS back yard though Laughing

As MX2 WC, you can only defend your title once.. Maybe they change the rule, but for now he needs to move up..

They changed the rule I think. Still, it'll only hinder his ability staying in that class another year

I also heard some rumours about it, but nothing official yet.. He needs to do what he wants to do, only 18 yrs old, so time enough! Altough i agree, another year MX2 (GP) will not be good for his own development..

Would be awesome if he goes to the US, Not that he will dominate or something like that, just awesome if all the greatest riders join one series!

If it were as simple as that, why aren't a bunch of mid-pack US riders heading over to Europe to bag a few world championships? Should be a cakewalk, eh? Or do you think that riding around in 10-15th place, scratching to make money and find a ride each year, is preferable to winning a prestigious international title?

he barely had hair on his nuts when racing kenny. i live for us. mx but i know just watching this guy he's the best on the planet on a 250....not even close.

I said it before and I'll say it again there's nobody on the planet that could come and take a GP title off the boy, especially the way he recently demolished even Kenny by a minute in the sand (let alone the rest),whereas Roczen pushed him at Valkensvaard a couple of years ago,the guy amazes me more than anyone has ever done before
