No. It's a way more physical sport than driving a car. The best WNBA player couldn't make a bench spot in the NBA. Similar concept here. For one lap, they might be able to put in an impressive showing though.

I could see it being more realistic in the lites class, met Zach Bell this weekend, no offense because he is lighting fast but he is half the size of the scantily clad monster/rockstar/falken etc models everywhere at a race.
Well James isn't that big either, nor are RC.

If memory serves me correctly, didn't Tara Geiger ride for Team Porto Rico in the MXDN a couple years ago? They didn't qualify for the Main but I don't know how Geiger finished in the B event.
They did Qualify in 2008. Geiger's results were...

MX2 Quali: Finished 30th / 32
MX1/MX2: Finished 35th / 38
MX2/OPEN: Finished 35th / 39

Livia Lancelot is racing MX2 class at the opening GP in Qatar this weekend. She's one of the fastest women riders in the world today so it will be interesting to see how she gets on.

Ashley's goal was to race the guys, her trainer Rob Beams mentioned it many a time on DMXS radio. He pushed her hard because she not only wanted to qualify, she wanted to score points. She trained as hard as any athelete Rob dealt with chasing that dream and the results speak for themselves. At no point where the WMX and AMA nationals raced on the same track would she have qualified for the 40 man gate. She was close at least once, but at times she was as much as 7 seconds off the 40th qualifier. I'm not going to say it can't be done.. but it will have to be someone significantly faster than Ashley was.

Is it physical or mental? A woman should be able to drop two fast laps in a timed qualifying event. I can understand women trailing off in a 30 minute moto against their male counterparts. How much of it is cultural where we all want to protect our daughters from getting hurt.

Courtney Duncan I think can qualify for a US 250 outdoor in the next few years,

at the first round of the NZ senior MX champs she put a lap time that was 11th overall on a 125, less than 2 seconds behind Justin McDonald was on his 450, Justin earned a top 100 number a few years ago in the states doing the outdoor nationals,

She was 6 seconds off BT101 fastest lap, that would put her pretty close to being in the 250F field i think,

http://www.mylaps.com/results/showrun.jsp?id=2566069

she landing in states this week, ready to do some amateur nationals for the JGR Yamaha am team, some boys are going to be put to shame, she can haul,
fuckin awsome. 1 second quicker then darryl hurley, these lap time comparison things are usually very misleading but 6 6 seconds off bts time who was on a 450? she on a 125? thats incredible. that has to mean she could not only qualify but maybe top 20 a us nat. but remember these lap time comparison deals are huge assumptions.

The Danica comparison doesn't mesh as well as the UFC fighter Rhonda Rousey does.

I think a woman with that kind of strength, agility, and grit could make it happen in MX.

I mean, anyone on here think they could defeat her in the cage? I wouldn't go in there against her even if they let me have a baseball bat! Haha, that is one MEAN little 140lb person.

No girl can compete with the boys in this sport. Its a reason its the toughest form of racing out there.

While at one point in my life I might agree, I'm no longer so certain this is the case.

There is no doubt in my mind that a Ronda Rousey character is much stronger than someone like Zach Bell or Marvin Musquin. So I don't think it's a physical strength limitation.

I believe that if as many girls raced as guys, there would be a few that could make it. It's a numbers game in my opinion. What is the proportion of males to females on the track 10:1 mayyybe?

Let's also keep in mind that girls hit puberty before boys do. Not to discredit Courtney's abilities, but come 18+, she's not going to be able to muscle the bike around like the boys can.

her results will fall off drastically...starting next week at Phoenix. around the 25th-32nd position. Stamp It.
I said this exactly almost word for word to a co-worker yesterday. Daytona and Talledega isn't racing, it is chess (you don't even use brakes). Tony is going to have to whisper a heck of a lot more advice in her ears to get her on the lead lap on a short track (or even intermediate possibly). I don't wish anything bad on her, but there is a lot of unfounded hype. Anytime you START with that much hype, it is a total recipe for disappointment.

You may be right. We shall see....BUT, have you noticed how tiny Zach Bell is? The Martin brothers and Wil Hahn aren't a whole lot bigger either, so it's not like Bell is an outlier.

Blake Baggett is rail thin, and ironically(?), he is at his best when the track is rougher than a cob.

Professional motocross may very well require a certain set of characteristics, but it doesn't appear that size and brute strength are among them.

I think Stefy Bau tried to qualify for some SX and outdoors in the late 90's- early 00's but I don't remember if she was successful or not.

Me thinks the WORST thing - for progression of WOMENS MOTOCROSS - is to separate them when they come off 50's

or 60's. I'm convinced that a FEW of the women racers today, COULD have competed against the pro men - IF they

would have stayed in boys/,mens classes throughout their progression. Having said that, it's gonna be cool when one of

these up n coming young women, whether foreign or domestic - makes it in. It will happen. One day.

Girls and boys are MUCH closer in strength then men and women so she likely won't run with the big dawgs when she's 24 years old.

Plenty of "men" in that NZ 125 class that got beaten straight up by Duncan. Just sayin..
At 17 now she's not going to get weaker is she?

+1

Also girls naturally have more fat than guys, meaning the percentage of a guys body that is muscle is a lot greater.

Zach Bell may be small but the percentage of his body that is muscle compared to a girl that is his size is going to be a lot more. Also I'm guessing Zach is going to grow a bit more.

^ That's probably good thinksing. Remember there's speculation that even the GP riders are at a disadvantage to U.S. riders because our amateur events are better -- or more competitive?

Anyway, now that I'm more awake I thought I'd try to explain better this image I posted last night. At one point during the Olympic gymnastics broadcast, they explained that this girl was the only female doing this particularly difficult vault (I think) because she's the only one who gets enough height due to her technique (I think).

They did a side-by-side with a male gymnast doing the same vault (I think), which I was looking for and couldn't find, and she was like a foot higher than him at least. And I'm pretty sure there's a HUGE fucking difference between a this girl's strength and a male gymnast's, probably much greater than the difference between, say, Zach Bell and Jessica Patterson.Cheerful

I'm not sure what to make of tennis babes being no match for tennis bros. Maybe physical ability is more of a factor, both in running to return a shot and thwacking the ball.
