Dammit that is scary stuff... hopefully the spectator situation is a good one. I am sure that some flying shrapnel probably got into the crowd but it looks like most of the front clip was laying on the ground just inside the fence.

Thanks Bamx for the results, it was a good day for him. Once he starts to get a little respect out on the track he will do really well. That was the most exciting nascar has been for me. Usually its a snore fest.

After rewatching the scariest thing I saw was what appeared to be a tire going over the fence... hopefully it was just the outer skin but either way it wasn't a good thing.

That was Kyle Larsen's engine and tire stuck in the fencing.

Think that's oil from the engine. It was leaking out and they used a bucket beneath it when they removed it with a forklift. The front corner of the car is next to it there, further to the right in the photo.

On youtube somebody posted a cameraman was killed but that source is sketchy at best.

From CNN: Injuries after debris flies into stands after NASCAR crash in Daytona

Debris flew into the stands, injuring some spectators, during a crash Saturday during the final turn of a NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway.

The multi-car crash occurred near the end of the Nationwide Series race at the same Florida track where Sunday's Daytona 500 will be held.

The impact caused material to soar into various places, some of it reaching the second level of the stands about 20 feet up. An engine was among the parts that broke loose and plowed into the protective fence separating the track from spectators.

Afterward, several spectators could be seen lying down after apparently suffering injuries. It was not immediately known how severe the injuries might be.

NASCAR president Mike Helton later told ESPN, which was broadcasting the race, some people were being taken to Halifax Medical Center. He said the protective fence did its job in preventing potentially more injuries and possibly deaths.

"There are moments that occur we have never seen before," Helton said.
