Take those wheels back to the shop stand by the front door and show everyone that enters what they did. But do not get angry. Just be very persistent. And don't listen to dumbass pinstriping coments.

I would strongly advise to never ever take your tires to be mounted at Chapparal if you live in So Cal. I've been going to Cycle Rider in Ontario on Holt Blvd. for 15+ years with $700+ wheel set ups for tire changes. They charge a flat fee of $12 per wheel and have never had one scratch put on my wheels during mounting. Every person I know and every person they know has always had their tires mounted there.

If you buy your tires from Cycle Rider, they install for free of course. You can't beat $12 knowing you'll get great fast service from some real moto heads. Not some dumb fuck who could give a shit if they trash your pride and joys.

I shopped Chap for many years and they used to have the core moto feel back on the other side of the freeway. They had knowagable staff and were very customer centric. Now, it's a parts pusher wherehouse with robots walking around in red shirts most whom have never ridden a bike in their lives. Never will I step foot in that store again and spend a dime.
I second cycle rider in Ontario, you can stand right there and watch them mount and dismount. They guys there are very cool and take there time. They appreciate cutomer business. I got yellow excel rims brand new once and had them install tires on them. I asked the please these are new rims and be very careful. They didnt even put a mark on them. Very happy with them!

Chaparral is not a riders store, it's a newbie and first timer gouge shop. All the wide eyed dads and first timers go in there and get dazzled by all the merchandise and bikes.

Anyone who buys a bike there is paying 1500 to 2 grand more than they would at most other shops - Ever look at the "setup fee" price on one of their new bikes? its insane.

They must be doing well though, ill give them that, but I cant imagine any experienced bike buyer buying there.

For what its worth I have never had a bad deal with Chaparral. And every time I get a tire changed there they have you sign a waiver that says your wheels have a possibility of getting scratched. Did you sign the waiver?

I had black wheels changed there without one scratch. I would be in a pretty bad mood too though if my wheels came back like that, but that's why they have a waiver to covers their butts. Sucks though.

The main reason I go to the shop is they have everything in stock. And since I don't plan ahead very well it makes it easy to get parts same day.
I had never had an issue w them either before this...but obviously there is a big issue now. Just give them the chance, they will jack your stuff up fast and tell you to get lost.
I emaild the manager last week and said I was going to post this to make people aware of the situation. No responce!
So I posted this yesterday and emaild him again w a link. I said now you cant just sweep me under the rug...people are going to read about this and about the outcome so please make this right.
No responce...they truly do not care at all. Not just in moto but Ive never seen such poor customer service and lack of trying to resolve the issue anywhere.

An automobile tire shop would never get away with damaging a customers rims like that. Why should it be any different just because it's a dirt bike rim?

I'd take them to small claims court just for the principle of it.

That sucks! It is not unreasonable to expect perfection when you are paying a professional to do something.

I go there to get odds and ends sometimes, but Ive seen their tire dept. employees, I sure would not use them.

Cycle Gear has better prices and will change them for you on the spot while you watch.
The problem with Cycle Gear is that every employee is supposed to be "certified" to change tires, which means watching their short training video and taking a short quiz. While some of their people know what they are doing, MANY of them are just regular sales people that have no mechanical experience or ability. So be careful.

Ive thought about it but I dont know I want to go there. On principle alone they do deserve to be taken to court though. Even though I signed something Ill bet I could easily get this through small claims and in front of a judge. At that point I dont beleive I would be denied.

You probably signed something more less saying some reasonable small scratches may be caused when the work is done. That is not reasonable what happened. Reporting a claim with the BBB would be very easy. They have to answer to that or it shows up in their BBB file.

I took my sons cr85 rim to The Racers Edge in Simi Valley to get a new rear dunlop and tube installed, the next weekend we were racing at Cahuilla Creek and in the second moto he got a flat. I was in TRE that week to buy oil and mentioned it to Jason, He pulled the tire off and replaced the tube free of charge, guys like that should get more publicity.

u should NEVER run the valve stem nut as if the wheel/tire spins at all it rips the stem out of the tire, 2 rim locks or 1 rim I wouldnt take the chance

After their ballout from Short I will no longer buy from them again.
I do not like the way they handle the business

At least do a BBB claim. I did one on a company that back ordered a part without letting me know. I did the report because when I called they wouldn't give my money back without a 20% restocking fee even after I reminded them that the part wasn't in stock so there was no actual restocking being done. Later on they called me and tried to resolve the issue by offering me discounts and that type of stuff. So you could get something out of it.

I was in there right before A1 . We were looking at the new bikes (all of them) . I was hounded by a salesman who was trying to make conversation i guess . He started talking about racing . Then he just starting bashing Short's lack of ability on a bike . I don't know who he was . No-one i'm guessing just a salesman running his mouth . He proceeded to tell us(whole family) that they were promised a championship caliber rider for 2013 and instead they got Short . He bashed Short a little more and i was done . I was so disgusted at the way some pee on could talk so negatively about one of the best riders in the world . I just told him i was done talking with him and left . If the owner has words like that it should be kept private . Obviously it was getting around to his employees . I thought it was very unprofessional to talk about something like that to a customer .

I guess my expectations are a bit lower than most of the responders to this post, because I do believe that customer service is dead in America, so when I go to any business I expect shitty service and I'm rarely disappointed. But in Chaparral's defense, I've had my wheels scratched during tire changes, motors eat valves 10 minutes after a rebuild and bearings seize an hour after replacement a number of times after these tasks were performed by large, medium and mom-and-pop shops.

After living in small towns where the only shop in town sells two brands, has no parts in stock and is closed Sunday & Monday, I am happy as hell to have Chaparral (and Malcolm Smith, Langston and others) at my disposal. These big shops have saved my weekend numerous times by a) being open and b) having the parts I need in stock. I've even driven to Chaparral between motos at Glen Helen to get a part I needed to make the second moto.

Chaparral sucks, zero customer service and just too big to care. Had a bad experience in the service dept and they admitted blame but just too bad for you. I was a 25 year customer who had spent thousands in there and they didn't care. Craparral wont get another dime from me.

That's a bummer. I've had silver rims get scratched before so when I got a set of black wheels I shied away from it and do them on my own. It's not for everyone, that's for sure. I've thrown tire irons across the garage more than once on a stubborn sidewall.

*sigh* the time stamp. Blush

I used to shop at Chaparral quite often. Spent lots of money on parts and gear. Bought one bike there. A good 15 years ago it was a great place to stop at while driving through Ca. All the closeout bins on gear. I didn't care what color most stuff was. Was hard to beat the prices. OEM parts. They usually had them in stock. Oils and chemicals. Great selection. Tires. Was always some on sale or closeout. Bike prices were comical. Surely they got overhead but when did a KX250 have a $750 setup fee. Then the docs fee. I bought a leftover dirtbike well into the next model year. Had cash. They didn't want it. Wanted that $1000 over MSRP on last years bike. Told the " sales" manager where to shove his dealer. After all what business needs customers. NONE. Do they. Finally got the bike that day for $500 under MSRP. They only had ten leftovers. WTF. When they kept expanding. Everything went downhill. I still stop a few times a year. Oil for whatever reason is quite a bit cheaper than here in NV. And I like to grab closeout tires that we just burn up on the desert bikes too quickly. I have got my last three bikes at 3Bros in Costa Mesa. Small dealer but can't beat the treatment. Great guys.

I have to be honest, in all my years of doing business there this was my first experience with the service dept. I do 99% of my own repairs and just got lazy, never again. It was a simple and honest mistake that they admitted to but they showed no interest in fixing the problem. I would never dream of buying a bike, ATV, or watercraft from them, even before this problem. You walk in there and the bikes are all MSRP plus a shitload of fees so you spend hours getting them down to earth, I've worked in the industry and understand that philosophy but I don't enjoy haggling, some peple love that nonsense, whatever. It was just a convenient parts store to me that used to have some screaming deals back in the day. I knew I was screwed when I sopke to a manager and he pulled the "lets see what corporate says" line. F these guys, just too many other options.
