Big EGO SIGN! I wanted to laugh and puke at the same time....but damn, I felt special! Thanks kw859 for the time and thought that went into this. I'm going to frame this....

As far as I'm concerned, Kevin Walker is the new Chuck Norris.

Six years ago I saw Kevin race for the first time at Devils Ridge in NC. I've been in MX (on and off) since 1974) I couldn't believe I had never heard of him to that point.
For the next year and a half until moving to SoCal I made it to every Ultra-Mega Sport race I could just to watch him ride.
Even got a chance to watch him at Glen Helen for the Vet championships a few years ago.
I've been fortunate to meet and watch some of the best racers in the world over the past three decades. It is very true, The Walker's are what the heart and soul of every MX racer should be....thanks for the great post and thanks to the Walker's for being part of our sport and representing the human race(rs) so well.

Kevinwas the honorary pace bike this past Monday at LL's.

While his riding skills are awesome his math skills aren't...haha

24 laps + heat index of 108 + a long layoff from racing = a whipped puppy

About alf way through the afternoon KW was doubled over in pain from severe cramps and the medics were called over.

They helped him through it and he soldiered on for the remaining groups.

I look forward to his return next year to actual racing.

Thanks again for the kind words. Our moto is simply this.....Treat others as you want to be treated. It's easy to do the majority of the time. Other times just keep your mouth shut and keep on going....lol! Anybody know any good agents out there to help a brother acheive what he wants. KW wants to be able to ride and race when he wants instead of being tied toa 9-5 job everyday. He wants to do riding schools and race and as an extra bonus I would be willing to home school riders when at our house. This is what we are talking about doing. Suggestions anyone.............

Don't buy a motorhome. Har!

Get a fifth wheel if you are going to travel.

How about a Yamaha promotional tour similar to the Suzuki truck that travels the country visiting schools? Riding schools on down days. Should be able to figure out someway to get into the sport full time.....

The Millsaps training deal are doing schools on the road now. They did a couple up here, and they were charging $1100 for 2- 1/2 days at a local track and only providing lunch no lodging. They limit it to 30 riders and they make a killing. Do that maybe 10-15 times a year and you'll be set.

Thanks Tim. It was hard coming home and her not being here. I know it probably won't be long before we have to say goodbye to Opie as well. It's like losing a family member .They have been with us for so long.

First off....wow what a class act, not that I am surprised to hear all you guys did knowing the history behind KW859

If this traveling moto class comes to fruition please contact me.
I work for a track here in New England that would probably sell out a class with Kevin, plus there are a few other tracks that might be interested so you could maybe hit a bunch in one trip.
donn@jndmx.com

I hope it all works out for you guys, you definitely deserve it.

Did Kevin race as a factory rider in SX and MX. I have heard of him a bunch the last few years but I think that was because of LL. I have been into sx since the early 80's and don't recall hearing about him in sx. Just curious

mxwife, how about giving us who are still learning of Kevin Walker the complete rundown of his racing career. Like when did he start, has he always ridden Yamaha's, etc.

My family and I go to LL each year for a day or two to spectate. On a couple occasions I have stood almost shoulder to shoulder with KW but was to shy to speak up and shake his hand.

I think the mx schools would be a great idea, you two sound like such great people I'm sure you would make great teachers.

Wow, Where to begin.......Kevin started riding when he was 4 yrs old. Kevin's brother Timmy who is 11 yrs older than him raced w/ David Bailey. Kevin's parents gave Timmy $20,000 to go out on the road with the Bailey's. That $ only lasted a few mos. Kevin began racing when he was 11 yrs old. He grew up racing in the Carolina's and VA. He has spent his entire racing career on Yamaha's. I believe he turned pro in 88. He and Damon Bradshaw had the same factory support ride. Kevin went to the 1st SX in Atlanta and crashed in practice breaking both arms. He lost the support ride. After recovering from the broken arms, he raced the outdoors and went to a few SX's. He only qualified for one SX in his entire career... the 94 Charlotte SX. I was there. After a first turn pile up he ended up in the back of the pack. The highest he ever placed in outdoors I do believe was 16th. He got the holeshot that race and ran 3rd for a long time before dropping back. He was on a stock bike that race. When he turned 25 in 94 he decided to start racing the vet classes at Loretta's. 95 was when he won his 1st title. Kevin has certainly became a very fast and fierce competetor. He is faster today than when I met him in March of 93. I am very proud of him and his accomplishments. He may not have been a RC or MC or even a Damon Bradshaw but is well known from coast to coast and all over the world. He is the same today as when I first met him. It doesn't matter who you are or how old you are...Kevin will take the time to chat and talk to you....that is what made me fall for him. There aren't that many riders out there especially the ones who are in the top of their careers who take time out of their busy day and chat for a spell and answer ?'s. He is my HERO!!!! I'll have Kevin fill in any gaps. Hope this helps some Wink

Kevin is a hero to a lot of people both young and old. I first got to see Kevin in action on a bike way back in 1989 ( Big Swamp) . I watched him ride in the sand at Montrose and I remember it like yesterday. The way he would go through those turns blew my mind. I had a couple of bikes of Kevin's in the early 90,s ( witch is how I ended up running # 97) . Ive been in and out of the sport over the years but every time I go back to the track it is a treat to watch Kevin ride.

Kevin Rocks! The first time I ever met him was in 1993 at Daniel Boone MX Park. He was seriously hauling the mail on one of those horrible looking white and purple YZ 125's! lol Really nice guy.
