Saw a ton of hate towards FMX in a thread last week. And I've been on the losing end of a ton of the anti quad/ nuke the quads rabble(99% of them couldnt catch me on my worst day but i digress).


so my question to Vital is: Whats worse? ATVMX or FMX?

It'd be hard to catch you because your quad would ruin every berm/rut on the track after 1 lap!

Doug Henry, Chris Ridgeway, Ricky James, David Bailey, Devon Rochon, all amputee's or disabled, they ride on two wheels.

Why would somebody ride an ATV on motocross a track........?

FMXers have their ramps and free ride spots so we don't have to cross paths with them.

ATV riders on the other hand want to be cut loose on MX tracks where they destroy the ruts and berms. Ergo, ATVs are WAY worse.

Trying to convince the 2-wheeled crowd how fast you are on an ATV or how difficult it is to ride one, or how physically demanding it is just fuels the anti-atv sentiment. It's totally futile.

And for the record, I don't hate ATVers but I do hate what they do to MX tracks.

Agree. If I were out riding and some dude was busting backflips I would def stop and take notice.

Dude on a Quad rides by, I go the other direction as fast as I can..

My worse crash ever involved an ATV. I jumped a big camelback double and landed on the back of an ATV taking up the entire track going about 5 mph. Spent a year away from racing on that one. On the other hand, I used to ride a lot with Tim Farr in 03 and 04 and holy shit that guy was fast on a quad. He could probably run top 5 in the WMX class, to give some perspective.

Timmy was quick, but top 5 in WMX? id say better than that. Chad Wienen had faster laps on his DS450 than Dungey at RedBud.

I figured I'd ask because my local series just banned ATV riders. Being someone who races both I wasnt impressed. I actually dont mind the ruts left by the fast quads. Its the spodes in the C classes that gas it at the top of jumps and ruin the lips. Other than that I can ride an ATV rut all day. If the inside gets hard you rail the loose stuff on the outside. makes for multi line racing with the added challenge of going without ruts and choosing the loamy outside or the hardpacked inside.

To each their own i guess

I don't see the ATV and FMX hate. To eatch their own.

FMX ruines MX reputation? Do you ride for fun or for the judgement of others?

ATV destroys ruts? Yeah and it sucks but the tracks are not my property so i don't decide who rides what and where. I just deal with it.

I'd rather have a drink and a chat with a down to earth ATV/FMX rider then some MX rider with a stick up his ass.

I know how to turn on smooth hardpack, so I don't care if ATVs ruin the ruts. Hey, those guys but a lot of the same products and support our industry with their dollars. More power to them!

Doesn't even matter really honestly, the RUTS at red bud are insane. No way the track on quad race day or whatever its called is even close to as rough and rutted.

sorry bh84, Pro-am didn't run the full track...I raced that weekend, my fast lap was a 2:11 on the shortened track. only the Pros ran the full track.

As an owner and rider of both a quad and an MX bike, I was recently politely informed of the disdain for quads here on the Vital MX boards. But, this is a forum full of dedicated and passionate MX fans, including myself, so this is to be expected. But, to answer the question, I would go with FMX being worse. I have enjoyed watching the progression of the sport of FMX, but now have around 0% interest in it. I’ll sit for 4 hours of live MX or Supercross coverage, but quickly turn the channel after a run or two in FMX. Boring.
