That last unannounced National? Yep, we got confirmation that it's at Miller Motorsports Park (http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/) in Tooele, Utah.

It'll be held on an all-new track in the infield of the facility. Apparently they're all in on making it world class.

If we understood the drums correctly (one was a just slightly off key), we may see even more changes to the schedule for '14.

It's a race in the summer outside. What else do you expect? At least it won't be humid...at all.

Being from northern Wa I might actually make the 13 hour drive, I wonder if they'll have an amateur day.

Putting 2+2 together, because I'm smart,.... I just realized that for many years I have received PR blasts from Miller

Motorsports Park, which can only mean- there HAS to be a Moto-Freak that is somehow involved in management

at that facility. My deductions are often wrong, but I'm figuring somebody with some power at MMP knows his (or her)

motocross. You gotta wonder now - does Miller get the Glen Helen/PALA/ Elsinore round ? Does Indiana get

the Steel City round ? Or, are there some panties we've never even heard of ?

I guess MX Sports figures if its good enough for WSB and AMA sport bike...its good enough for the nationals?

It's flatter than a pancake out there, and if its in the infield of the road course, then there is little chance for some man-made obstacles of any significance (unless they plan to rebuild the track every year?) as they would obstruct the viewing for the other racing that goes on out there (bikes and cars).

I seem to remember that Miller lost the WSB round and/or the AMA superbike round they have been hosting the past few years. And that had to be a big blow to the bottom line, a facility of that magnatude needs to be hosting major races, because there is no way they can survive on the weekend warriors...so I'm assuming they were desperate to get some form of professional racing out there. (They still have that truck series that MC, Deagan, Twitch and those guys race...but I can't remember what its called. And that begs the question as to if its in the infield of THAT track, or the road course?)

Anyway, it's a massive and very impressive place...the jumbo screens around the road course, could solve a ton of the viewing issues not to mentino the bathroom fascilities and concession...they even have buildings that could be used as the pits, rather than the semi trucks. Plus an amazing VIP area..all the goodies the media could ever want.

it's less than 30 minutes from Salt Lake International Airport, and about 30 minutes from down town Salt Lake City. And right off I-80. Super convenient.

On a lot of levels it makes a lot of sense...and could definately raise the bar for other venues on the circuit in term of accomodations.

But, please, MX sports...don't put the Utah national at the end of the series...have that bad boy early in the season (may or June at the latest...WSB and AMA superbike was always in May), the weather is just about perfect that time of year and I don't recall any wind the times I attended the road bike races there.

Tooele is too windy for a National, imo. I don't mind the track when it's prepped well, but it goes to shit in a hurry.

Sorry to say it but this is a huge mistake. You could build this exact track on any parking lot in the world. This will be proof, as no track exists and this is basically a big, hot, flat parking lot. The dirt there is terrible, its the windiest part of the state, there will be no shade (natural) for spectators (and it gets extremely hot out here, make no mistake about it) and there is no elevation at all. It is honestly a Walmart national. I cant believe the most prestigious motocross series in the world cant find a site with an existing track that has elevation changes. Add to that the fact that we cant even fill a supercross stadium because of the cold during that time of the year and it makes even less sense.

I (jokingly) said that the nationals will be coming to a Walmart parking lot near you a couple years ago. Sad I applaud MXsports for doing the best they can, but, it's a bit scary.

Its depressing for me honestly. Sure, I'll go to support it, but this is literally nothing that is good about the Nationals. When I think of Nationals I think of elevation changes and beautiful and historic tracks that all have a personality and their own characteristics and challenges. This is literally going to be a track built on asphalt. How we can justify putting a National round on a track that doesnt even exists yet is beyond me. There are so many fantastic tracks that exist and would likely receive more consumer support than this ever will. Oh well. I'll go bake in the sun and dust for the couple of years this stays on the schedule.

The dirt will be brought in, screened and mixed for those that complain about it. PS. Go take up another sport if your looking for shade at a National.

There's that attitude that made the Nationals great for all these years. You're right man, I forget that nobody brings kids or wives to these things. The fans are comprised entirely of super duper hardcore racers who want to stand on flat ground watching the dusty races on large screens (since there is no spots that are elevated enough for you to see more then one small section of the track) in well over 100 degree weather. Elevation changes and trees are for pussy's! Its just like our supercross round. Who cares if those pussy's dont want to brave the snow and cold in large enough numbers to fill even half of the stadium? This sport is only for the couple hundred hardcore fans brah.

Guess you'll enjoy watching it both moto's live on TV then. Yeah that's right... BOTH MOTOS LIVE. That's progression!... As opposed to driving 3 hours to some podunk town in the boonies to watch a National with a few trees. Its all about adverting dollars buddy. Get the big picture?! That's how the sport will GROW.

Back in the early 1990's when I was racing, there was a race up on the highline of Montana (up by the Canadian border). Anyways, they cancelled our second moto's one day because of the wind. I can't remember what the wind speed was, but we don't have 10mph winds in North Central MT. If Tooele is like that, it'll suck. If it's a breeze it could be a great day of MX.

Will be interesting to see how this one works out.
Tracks with no elevation suck for spectating.
The media facilities sound very nice though,I am sure the casual fan will benefit from that.Wink
Best of luck to all involved and I hope we see some good racing.

The SX race this year was pretty full in my opinion, cold as fuck but it still looked pretty packed to me.

I've done some consulting work for Miller. They are borderline desperate to try to find any way to make money. This doesn't surprise me; maybe they are trying to find a way to make some of this series more like supercross. Accessible, great parking, spectating, etc. But really, wait until you drive out there. Flat nothingness, but yeah, a great facility.

Little disappointed it's not an actual motocross track, but I guess we'll see how it goes. I enjoy watching Daytona so who knows. Will the track be Daytona on steroids?
