There are several reason for this build other then the obvious which is the looks and modernizing of the dated YZ250. We wanted to build something that will allow us to further develop new technologies into the bike (i.e. DFI and so on) and this build gives us the platform we need in order to do so. There are also several key technical changes that were made to enhance the handling especially cornering that is not obvious by looking at the pictures.

There will be more information available soon. We currently finishing up the final stage of the build and then we go into additional track testing of suspension and intake system setup followed by Dyno runs.
Did you say DFI?

Man, If you develop anything to update the YZ250, get ready for a big demand.
Yes DFI or EFI depending on what system makes more sense from the design point of view. This will be for our YZ250Ri project which if succesfull will be out towards the end of next year. For now we are planning on testing a new alternative intake system besides the standard carburator.

I just noticed the Hydraulic clutch. Nice touch!
The short answer is yes. After we completely evaluated the bike with extensive testing we are planning on building them in groups of 5 to keep the price down as much as possible. Two of them are already spoken for. The price is uknown at this point as we are trying to work with the manufacturer on getting the needed components so we don't have to buy complete bikes which drives the price up quite a bit. Our plan is to build them new but if that is not possible we will look into other alternatives. More info on that as we are getting feedback on our inquieries.

Who is the manufacturer? What year motors are you using in it? Bike looks great but if you could give more details it would be sweet!

Any plans for a DIY frame conversion kit? I've got a YZ250F rolling chassis and YZ250 engine ready for the conversion.

For this initial platform build we used a modified 2012 Yamaha YZ250F chassis with a 2008 YZ250 Motor but newer motors up to the most recent year will fit.

There is a possibility that we will offer a conversion kit. We are working out the details as it does take quite a bit of fab work. More info on that later down the road.

Thank you all for the positive replies and letting us share our passion for the sport and the two stroke in particular.

One of the key element in this build was to maintain the fit for aftermarket and OEM parts such as pipe, silencer, plastics and so on. That way if you needed to change out or wanting to try a different pipe or plastic setup you can just bolt it straight on without having to mod anything. There are many more "Bolt On" upgrades for it but we wanted to keep it simple and focus on the raw design aspects of the bike.

We will continue to update as we go along with videos and "first ride" impression write ups from a selected group of individuals as well as dyno testing results of the new intake system once available to us.

That's good to know. Any idea of a ballpark for pricing or availability? I should be ready to convert the frame some time next spring. Any chance it would be out by then?

So does it handle better w/ the 450 frame??

Its a cool bike and all but to be honest..isn't the YZ250 pretty close to perfect. Every time i see one at the track, they are usually bone stock....cant say i can say the same for alot of other bikes, including my own cr250
i've often wondered the same thing......the project, along with many others, is very cool. i find it unecessary. i've got a couple yz250s. love the bike, and don't think it needs improvement. that being said, i haven't ridden this or any other conversion. might be a world of improvement. and if it the industry was full of guys like me, we'd still be riding metal tanked dual shockers.

We have no time frame for the DIY kits at this point as the Gen1 frame will go through track/durability testing for the next 6 month first. We are planning on the Gen2 frame to be released mid next year which will be used on our YZ250R DFI project and our goal is to have the bike ready for the 2013 2-Stroke National at Glen Helen.
