I was actually able to get in touch with Jason a few months ago via text. I also communicated with his agent. Jason is in New Jersey and according to him, most of his focus is on his little brother's riding and racing. They have a pair of well-worn Suzukis (from the ARMA Suzuki City team, I'd imagine), and when I first traded texts with Jason, his brother had just injured himself. The idea of being in Kickstart 4 excited Jason, but he admitted that he hadn't been riding a ton, and that his bike and equipment were clapped out. With five weeks until our projected shoot date (time for little brother to heal up), I began to round up some stuff for the shoot. When I asked what I could help with, Jason's exact words were, "Get me some sweet-looking gear."

I made a few calls soliciting gear for our shoot, and I wasn't really surprised when the first couple companies I called said, "No way!" Finally, I turned to Jason's last gear sponsor, O'Neal, and they happily sent a couple sets of customized gear. AP Designs already had a custom-painted helmet waiting for him, as it had been ready since the start of the 2011 season that he never showed up for.
Jason's agent still had two nearly complete Yamaha YZ450Fs from the 2010 J-Law Racing era in his warehouse. I say nearly, because they lacked suspension. The factory stuff, apparently, had to go back to sponsors, and the stock components came up missing after the liquidation of the team and race shop. Determined to get J-Law on two wheels and into the movie, I pulled some strings (thanks, big brother) to get a set of suspension built for the bike. To the best of my knowledge, his agent shipped the completed bike to New Jersey, but as my departure date drew nearer, I found it impossible to contact Jason to finalize our plans. Still, I shipped a set of tires to the address I had, but they came back undeliverable a few weeks later.
I'm bummed that I wasn't able to connect with Jason after all, but I don't feel burned or upset about the effort I put into the project. I just hope the kid is okay...

It seems you have always had a close or good relationship with Jason. (even now you say you dont feel burned) From your perspective, can you say anything about that?

Jason and I have always been cool, and for some reason, he took a liking to all of us at TransWorld. We were oftentimes criticized for the amount of web site coverage we gave Jason, but when he joked about being "TransWorld exclusive" and called us to film/shoot, who in their right minds would have said no? Not to mention the amount of traffic the guy generated...

As much goofy stuff as he did, Jason was/is a lot more intelligent than most people realize. He added a lot of flavor/excitement/drama to our sport, and I miss him.
Much thanks to you Donn and Transworld for always giving Jason the coverage and the chance and to keep us fans updated on what he was up to cause that other publication site is too stuffy to even mention him on their site. Your Thursday throwback of him was a great idea and glad you guys did it! Guy has talent for days and for people to bag on him for his actions is such crap. How much stupid crap did we all do at his age is what people need to remember. Same goes for Hill. When I saw this it bummed me out for you cause it would of been awesome to see him in Kickstart 4! I hope you guys get in contact with him and see whats what. Wherever Jason is at and whatever he's doing I hope he's alright and is at peace and is living his life happy. Who cares if you guys get flamed for covering Jason, you guys are awesome for doing so and keep it up over there at TWMX!

Every time(like 20-30times a day) i look at the forum and see that someone have written in the JLaw threads, i get my hope up so much!

And wish that it is someone who have put a link or something to a official statement that JLaw is coming back as a pro.

Have not happen yet, but i will keep on hoping!

Same here. I just believe he's not the person people call him to be. Maybe he has some character trades that aren't so common, but to think he's a bad person is just wrong.

You know, everybody says "mad skills...lots of talent...didn't give a f@7k..." but the truth is, that the kid had the world on a string and blew it...and didn't care. Thousands of kids with lots of talent...maybe even more than he has/had would have given their right nut to have the breaks and $$$ he had thrown at him, and he simply pissed it all away with his punk attitude and juvenile behavior. It's not even what he did to his own career...but he hurt other's careers too by dragging them down with him.

I replied the way I saw fit.

A guy with great style who didn't give a fuck about anything. Won a supercross lites title over Dungey in 2008, got in trouble and went to jail. Tried to comeback in 2010 but that didn't go to well, I blame the new Yamaha 450Wink

Good thing he has done:
*Did lend a bike to Tyler Wharton at a supercross when his bike blew up.
*Donated money to the Magoo Van Fund and the Asterisks crew.

I never really looked too closely at his style but he really does ride with his elbows down, works for him though Wink

His raise and fall is tormenting for some of us, one don't dig seeing failing achieving reachable goals, especially in a degrading way. I prosper mentally on happy stories, in some self fulling way. These constant threads popping up about him, kind signals how we feel, more than what's going on with him?

I hope he found piece, took therapy, ended further destructiveness, and is doing something that will make him float to old age, for the sake of us all maybe! Wink

I'm sure this is not the last thread about him...Sad

Damn Donn. For as much of a critic as I have been of TWMX. That is pretty damn cool what you tried to do. I will nominate myself as douche of the month for my previous posts about you. Anyone willing to go that far to help someone out cant be half bad.

My appologies

At this point, he reminds me of a college football player who has an NFL career worth millions waiting for him...so he goes out and sells weed (see LSU's Honey Badger or any of the Iowa Hawkeye running backs over the last 4 years), gets caught...and basically disappears into oblivion
or any of the Iowa Hawkeye running backs over the last 4 years

Don't remind me...

Ok so here is the question? If JLaw was still racing where would he be at? I think the kid would be right there battling with The top5 guys. This kid had the skilz to be a 450 champ I wish he would make the ultimate come back and stomp everyone. I personally miss the kids style, speed, determination , and attitude .

Bring him back

Oh no...do I want to try and find some of your older posts? haha j/k
Apology gladly accepted, though I'm not sure what for. Smile

On a lighter note, we didn't get J-Law into Kickstart 4, but I did manage to hunt down Ronnie Mac. Smile

St. Louis sx 2009? I believe when TP199 designed the track...
Jlaw was railing the berms faster than just about anybody.
Watching that clip from kickstart reminded me of that.
I really wish Jason would have worked with astephen instead of sepkovdick..
IMHO that might have changed a lot of things.
Then again, if my uncle had tits he'd be my aunt.

I miss watching this kid race.

Thanks for trying to reconnect with him Swap. There's still a few people out there (myself included) that wonder what he's up to. I wish the best for him in whatever he does.

From 2009 St Louis SX, dude was on fire! (Can someone embed this?)

Super talented kid that ran with the best, but never trained like the best. A treat to watch, great style on the bike and there was always some excitement when he was on the gate. Managed to get a lites supercross championship before calling it quits a few years back.
Biggest misconception about the kid is that he didnt train. He trained VERY hard. Problem was, he did everything else with the same intensity. But people just focus on the negative. Which is understandable in this case.

But to say he didnt train hard is wrong. His daily routine was better than most in this sport.
