Thing is they don't have to justify anything, Youthstream and Luongo have tied up everything, people let them and now they have everyone by the balls, no one can do anything....
The world championship is losing his value every year, you doesn't have to be the best you just have to have enough cash to compete....
They clame that it's for TV transmission and so on then why can we watch the nationals i HD quality while the GP on tv have so poor quality that personally I find it not watchable....
Let's hope that this 50% increase will open the eyes of everyone on how BAD youthstream is for motocross!!

There is no increase in entries for 2013.

OP misinterpreted that interview. Entries same as 2012.

LOL! Seems GL are doing something wrong since so many people both within the GPs and outside have an urge to bag on him, but if the situation is so horrible, one would see people lining up elsewhere, or call it a day. I thought it was as simple as that?

As long as one can see stuff on the telly, and there's a healthy amateur thing going on, I don't care...

Whatever money is asked, the riders should be paid for the show.

Do you pay to work or are paid to work? As simple as that.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP !

or:

Not National.
Really?

That explains/justifies the "Gouging"?

I'll remember that next time I see you w/ a complaint/negative opinion of an exotic/expensive Part or Accessory.

More Defections are likely and GL is giving someone all the more reason to Start an Alternative Series.

Not if Greece, Spain and Portugal have any say in it. I would argue that unless they are being paid in gold, they are going to be losing money.

MXA are stupid! Luongo didn't change his mind, this was the only press release from them about the changes. The other information was from Adam Wheeler who was hearing what might be happening, and was only off on a few details

That's really a non-issue. The top racers will show up, because they're contracted to race the MX GP series by their teams and sponsors. They can't strike or not show up or they will be in breach of contract. And as long as the top racers show up, the fans will show up.

No Green bastard dude, shit aint that simple, cause real good riders will always show up cause these guys still make real good money. The ones that are scewed are your 12-40th guy. A whole bunch of pretty decent euro riders have been a no show for years. They just go national championship, euro or german sx, that's it! Let's say all the Bobby Kinirys of the GPs don't bother coming anymore, but what does the fat fuck cares? He has his Cairoli and a dozen of guys who mind picking up what's left, that's plenty enough for him.

they will though, that's just it.

There is a similar argument I am hearing all the time about the UCI, guess what? racers and teams continue to subscribe to the championships.

Yes really

We will see at the 1st gate of 2013 how many defectors there are, or are not more to the point.

I don't really understand what you mean regarding complaints about parts/accessories or what it has to do with this. FWIW If I have a complaint I don't bring/would not bring it to a forum so you are unlikely to ever see one from me unless I purchase something from you, which is possibly just as unlikely based on your location. I run part of a business and know 1st hand how damaging foums are where morons can run around shooting their mouths off before actually trying to deal with something.

Everyone bashes on the GP for not paying riders purse money but it is almost the same in the US. Matthes did an article on this a while ago and if you were out of top 10 it is nothing more than a few hundred and it barely paid your entry fee. If you are in the top 10 you don't care about that $1000. I don't even know if there is some money given by feld for winning the championship? You don't see RV standing up with a big Feld check. When RV wins the championship his millions come from Monster, Kawi, Thor...

Luongo model is based on moto gp or formula 1 which are successful. And in those sports you never see a privateer coming up and taking part. In F1 Each team fields two cars and if a rider is injured they change for another one. By the way Luongo is not charging the rider he is charging the team and the team is charging the sponsors. If a rirder can bring sponsor money they'll take him on same as Partridge on H&H.

Now in SX 60k people in a stadium does any of that money goes to the riders?

What I don't understand is how Luongo can charge the GP hosts so much.

Some of these strange cook-ups they come up with are odd, I am in no way advocating or saying they have it right, or wrong - this is big business people, far bigger than anybody here really understands.

What I am saying is some change may be good - 2013 season and onward will show one way or the other how right or wrong they have it and until it's here and active I personally don't see the point in banging it around my head.

Same as putting on a world cup in mountain biking - large charges and commitments required by event organisers.

I assume why YS charge so much is that the revenue generated/expected to be generated by the event outweighs the cost of putting it on substantially?

"What I don't understand is how Luongo can charge the GP hosts so much."

Because he can find enough people to pay it.

If you accept that going to more far off places grows the series brand and is not just about finding people who will pay that fee, then it's probably the best class model, because its seems a lot better than what has happened with too many riders filling the field who are not up to the pace and create a dangerous situation.

Of the options ~ small gates of qualified racers, full gates of qualified and unqualified racers, or a full gate of mixed classes, all qualified riders ~ the latter seems like the best option if you are committed to going to venues when the all of the regulars cannot afford to go and the locals don't have enough good riders to fill the field.

Personally, I'd prefer to see the format left unchanged, and don't go where all the regulars cannot afford to travel and the locals aren't qualified. But it's not my business.

"Luongo model is based on moto gp or formula 1 which are successful"
Woohoo

Moto GP system is successful because of the money from the sponsors...and because this sport is very popular....(TV coverage is very important, so sponsors are generous...).
MXGP is an « anonymous » sport...which has not the same power with the sponsors.

Nowdays, a lot of GP riders have to pay if they want to achieve their dream by taking part to the world championship...it's a shame.

I'm sorry but Longo is charging the riders, in a roundabout way. He's charging the private teams, so these teams have no choice but charging their riders, asking them to come with their own money...and, in the end, this money is for longo's pocket....Evil

So that they can perform on the world stage and arguably the biggest show in motorcross - strange how more people moan on here about it than riders huh?

Great Idea, but it seems they are already too far entrenched now to get out. Surely $30 000 with a 50% increase for next year, per rider, is beyond ridiculous. A mate of mine said today, and it seems to ring true worldwide, that if any of the professional ball sports were run the way motocross is run, there would be worldwide front page news, and probably people ending up in jail. Why is nothing ever done ??
the biggest sport in the world is also the biggest mess Motocross is holy compared to Football
Corruption to the core from high to low, match-fixing, illusionistic draws, gambling,
you name it, Luongo is a saint compared to Sepp Blatter

Comparing a supercross purse to a world championship purse should be plausible though.
