Run a few more races and its "ON" season for hunting! Time to sit in a tree and listen to nature and do some bike freshing before we hit NC come late winter. My body is ready for a rest and I think my family is too!

It's my ON season right now; goals that I set for myself back in January are now being met. Not unlike yourself GuyB, I'm a cyclist (both mtb and road). Just did a 12-hour team (mtb) race this past weekend, I've got a century ride the weekend of the 6th, and a metric century the following weekend. I've ridden three times a week since March. My goal is to not let off the gas at the end of October, I feel better than I ever have, I just hope I don't burn out like I typically do toward the winter months.

Ill quit RB's when you pry an empty can from my cold dead hands!!!! Blink

There is a very important one that i need to add to this list...and it is a BIGGIE.

Smoking!!! It is killing me, literally. I feel it each morning when i get up.

*please respect what i have to say next, and dont just write it off as im making up an excuse*

There is so much bullshit going on in my life right now, on top of my the health issues and crap i deal with on a daily basis, the family drama going on right now is almost literally unbearable at this point, so now really is not the "right time" but i know there is one, and it is up to me to choose it. I have a birthday (43) coming up on Nov.18th. and if this fam shit is cleared up by then, it would be a good time, if not, New Years 2013. The best way IMO is to set a date (preferably an important one) and sticking to it!

It is something i really need to start preparing myself for.
Try using one of those e-cigs to help you kick the habit. You can adjust the amount nicotine going into your body and reduce it as time goes on. I personally think this is a great concept for people to quit smoking. Other benefits for you are that it is much cheaper, won't smell like cig's to other people, and it's much cleaner for your body. Just a thought.

As the colder weather sets in I will do my best to put on about ten lbs for winter. I have chronic pain and like Scotty says its hard to eat some days. So I'll start heading to town to hit the Kings chef diner for some monster food. I am still sponsored by them even though I don't race much anymore. I look forward to the holidays too so I can eat till its coming out my ears. I need to find some Health ins so I can get my back and shoulders sorted out. I would love to stop taking pain meds someday.

Okay, the pro race season's over, but for me, it's now the ON Season. It's getting cooler, and it's training time for me.

Example? I've got a pair of personal goals so far...

1. Ride my road or mountain bike at least four times a week for a minimum of 15 miles.

2. Drop 20 pounds.

Who else is in for the ON Season?
Same riding goals and drop 10 pounds. Smile

I crashed in a Vet race on July 22nd, day after my 47th birthday. Broken collar bone (6 pieces), and tore my ACL. Since then I have had the collar bone fixed, and made a goal to drop some weight, and to be diligent with PT on the knee, to have the best possible out come with the surgery. So far, I am back on the mountain bike riding between 6-14 miles every time I ride ( I travel a lot, so can't ride everyday). I went on a rigoris diet, and have dropped 20 pounds. Greatest feeling of accomplishment. Much better than if I had won that race I was in for sure. I am still ON, even if I don't get on the motorcycle for another eight months!! Don't settle for less Steve!! Good luck.

Ride as many days as possible on the V-Twin my wife bought me for my birthday before the snow flies.

Get the interior of my 11yo son and my project truck back on track. Finish the transition from bench seat to buckets and begin working on a custom console and semi-custom dash. Maybe put the lowering kit in during the winter. 77 Chev Stepside 2WD, should be fun and done by the time he can legally drive.

Dang, Scottie, we have the same birthday. I may have known that, but old guys forget things.

I do miss the RB Cola. A little spicy and not as syrupy. Guess they dropped that one.

Tonight I noticed I weighed 40 pounds more than what my drivers license showed. I've been working on losing some weight and knocked off 10 pounds in about 3 weeks, I stayed around the same weight for another 3 weeks and now I've noticed i'm putting it back on. I suck at this!

Drop ten and get in a mid week road bike ride each week (I do two- three mtb rides during the weekend.).
We have some calorie burners in the SGV mountains. let me know if you ever get out this way.

I don't often, but I want to give it a shot. Smile

I used to do a bunch of riding over on the other side, like around Devil's Punchbowl near Pearblossom. There are some really cool trails out there, but not as convenient as it used to be for me.

No one loses weight just burning calories like on a bike ride (cardio), mainly because they think they have to fuel a ride with carbs. They become sugar burners. Sugar burners weight set point rises and the body just wants the weight back.

Check out "The Art and Science of Low Carb Performance." One of the authors was been working with cyclists like 30 years ago, and its about adapting your body for fat burning. Fat burners do lose weight when they want to.

My brother does long road rides too and I got him to try it a few weeks ago.. He is liking it.

July 30th went in for my annual physical and my cholesterol was 292. Stress, eating bad on the road and not working out. Signed up at a gym that day and have been working at it since. Changing bad habits is the hardest thing to do but I'm slowly working on it. I'm eating better, riding my dirtscooter more, going to the gym and trying to cut the stress down at work.

Begin running early November, training for two marathons and few 10k's in the new year! The fitness will help when i climb the three peaks within 24 hours, in a tiger suit, for charity next year too! Did Snowdon earlier this year - you should've seen the faces of climbers young and old... priceless!

My ON season consists of Hockey, Hockey and more Hockey. Unfortunatly, I wont be able to get off work, sit down and watch my NHL Center Ice TV package and watch every game every day (or at least try) due to that ass hole Gary Bettman. I do play in an adult league. I hope it gets cold enough this winter to build an outdoor rink in the back yard.

How's everyone's on season training going? I raced that 10k and finished in 47 mins. Not too bad for my first go but my bloody talus -- my ankle is so hurting bad that I can barely walk on my right foot. If I walk on the ball of my foot it's okay but the heel is off limits for now. It's a bummer, I really enjoyed the challenge. Hoping it will clear up soon and I can get back at it. Loved running again even though I was only training around 2-3k. Ankle injuries suck.

Good job on finishing! You have to start somewhere...

My progress is great. At 157 lbs. Started the process at 184. FAT AS HELL. (i'm only 5'8")

Drinking lots and lots of water, vitamins, moderate to low carbs, and currently taking a little booster that is working quite amazingly. Woohoo And it's not Red Bull Scottie... Although I do like Sugar free and the Cola was very good to me. Wish it was around...
