Ooh I had a great day in Lierop, Talking with some riders. Watching Herlings humiliate the field. But the trued is that some guys where slower then the locals I saw at the Belgian Championship in Mont Saint Guibert. (Coulon, Christophe Martin, Marvin Van Daele, Manuel Priem, Janvier). Realize how much better it would be if all the great riders from Europe came to the GP trying to qualify for those x2 - 40 start places. Also I didn't saw you, maybe because you where to deep into somebodies ass, but more likely because you where eating free sponsored salads and drinking Monster Energy.

Cociu is one of those guys who aren't capable of qualifying at the Dutch Nationals but is capable of riding World Championships because he has money, You don't know him... Strange! Bye the way this tells allot: "I couldn't care if its 20 riders the grid or 40, makes no difference to me." And this tells even more: "I am not the Motocross police, just a fan who liked to see good racing" You aren't a fan you're are a so called journalist who spreads propaganda.

For the record if "Wanna Make It" means that I need to turn into a ass kissing copy of you I think I choose to be an almost nobody. Bye the way don't know yet if I go to Lommel 120 Euro is CRAZY MONEY!!

Wow, you got to talk to some riders, well done...................Still you won't be man enough to say this stuff to my face, I can be sure you won't have the balls to actually talk to somebody like this face to face.

Go away little man and play with your toys.

By the way knob-head. I took my kids and we stood in the crowd watching the racing. I didn't even go in the press room.
And this is what you said to your kids: Look at that rider, He is paying dads salary. And don't tell the world that YS isn't paying you! You make 90% of the posts on there website!! MX-Life is one of the biggest advertisers on you website and do I need to continued?

Bye the way did you know that the point of a discussion is that you first counter the other his point and then you can take a swing to him personally. But your attacks are always personal without any point. You doubt my manhood (probably my d*ck isn't as big as those Italian dicks you are used to but I'm pretty proud at my manhood). You call me little but that isn't really offensive but more racism, calling a guy with a growing disorder little...

Little question: If you aren't on the payroll of YS why did you felt the need to come here and defend YS?
And please stop blaming the "green" ones because youthstream and guys like you are as bad or even worse!

Geoff, you very big motocrossfan, please tell us when was you last time you paid $75 to see a bunch of clowns ride?
We, the motocrossfans have to pay a lot of money to see these races and it's getting worse and worse. Priem, Schiffer, Aigar Leok, De Reuver, Boissiere and lots more aren't gp-riders anymore but we get to see Thacker and Coicu. It's just a fucking shame!!!!

Wrong, LOTS of riders dissapeared to eather local races, the Red Bull Natonals or the world championship enduro. Whatever, they are sick of this bullshit and left the sinking ship.... Instead of that the fans have to pay bigtime to watch a few good riders and a lot of clowns. See who is in for MX2 next year, a complete embarresment.

The end is nearer than you think.

Further news on the Chuck Sun Lommel Campaign fund, Davey Coombs & RacerX have sent Chuck a sizeable donation as has British VMX enthusiast Gary Cartmel and other pledges promised from Ohio VMX fan and new owner of the Primm collection Tom Reese.
Big thank you to all of you for making this happen, Chuck is "over the moon" that he will be able to be in Lommel 31 years later for another MXDN.
If any other fans want to support Chuck with a donation, however big or small, please send me a PM and I will give you Chuck's email address to Paypal money too!
Thanks,

This.

I think Loungo, overall, has done a great job for the GPs. I don't agree with everything, I would like to see prize money for the privateer teams and qualifying, but nothing will ever be perfect. Apart from that I do think the GPs are a great event to be at these days, and it is producing some fantastic riders.

Davey does things a totally different way, a more hands on approach maybe, but the ulitmate goal is the same... both are trying to grow motocross. In the US it is different, DC had to make the MX series attractive again after the sx only contracts. He did it.

Until someone can come up with a better idea for the World Championship... and make it work. Then you may stop complaining, because I am guessing it is a lot more difficult job than people are making out. All four GP motos can be watched live on the internet all around the world... that is some achievement. It is also on Motors TV live as well. World MX has never been so easily viewed.

Don't forget, the guys in the US aren't mx only, a lot of their salary from the teams comes from SX too. Whereas there is only motocross in the rest of the world... that makes it harder to gain exposure, especially since the large mx market of the US doesn't have much interestin GPs, and if you listen to Luongo you can understand why he has made the changes, even if you or I don't really agree with some of them.

Overall the GPs are a lot better than they used to be imo.

Sword, Aubin, Krestinov, Priem, Monni etc, even DeReuver, they've all had a shot at the GP's and each have had a brief period of success before settling into season after season of consistently average results. Thats one reason they left, because they plateaued and failed to recapture their best form, so they were no longer attractive propositons for teams and couldn't command the best deals anymore.

While I don't agree with the notion of paying to ride, riders such as Tommy Searle and Jake Nicholls would not be where they are today without large investments made on their behalf at the start of their careers. Whats more it is common practice in virtually ALL motorsport due to high operating costs and limited public appeal unfortunately. Even if you reintroduced qualifying (which I am in favour of by the way) you will still end up with riders who are financially capable of travelling and competing at the majority of the GP's and others who are not. So it will still seem unfair to the guys who are fast, but don't have the resources. Few local building firms will see any benefit of sponsoring a local rider racing out in Brazil, so riders will depend on wealthy benefactors who have a personal interest in the sport ... which kind of brings us full circle to whats happening now!

In terms of bikes, travel, spares and equipment GP racing is far, far more expensive now than it used to be when travelling around Europe in a battered old van and working on your own 'bike' was the norm.

Don't read too much into the fact that it's confusing to a lot of folks that there are two different AMAs, two different AMA logos, two different offices -- one in Daytona, one in Ohio -- that sanction Lucas Oil Motocross (AMA Pro Racing) and Monster Energy Supercross (AMA).

Contrary to The Rock's odd guesses, I have zero intention of ever starting or running a sanctioning body. I'm kind of busy as it is...

I don't have to pay for any race I go to, be it in Europe, America, or whatever, that is my good luck. I am not trying to work out your problem, if the sports sucks so much find something else to follow.

Clowns riding around, which end of the race do you watch, Cairoli, Herlings and Searle or those slower guys? I know who I watch, and they are not clowns.

The MX1 class is healthier than ever, as is the Euros, and the MX2 class is seeing a lot of unexpected young heroes. I love going to the MX.

But then again I have a positive attitude in everything I do. I am also pumped I can offer people a FREE service like www.mxlarge.com and my FREE e-magazine Motocross Illustrated, all thanks to sponsores like Youthstream, KTM, Alpinestars, Leatt, FMF, Fox Racing and so many more. My contribution to the sport is a good one.

By the way, the recession has now hit in Australia, maybe you need to ask the Aussie riders what has happened to their salaries, or maybe the American riders after the huge recession in America. It isn't Youthstreams fault teams and sponsored are all struggling outside of Europe, but the recessions. Same story in Europe.

Again, why do all these good riders leave, and their places beying filled up with much slower riders?

Why did they decide to take away the qualification money and the pricemoney? Nowadays a fast privateer doesn't even think about riding from - let's say - Belgium to Italy, pay more than 1000 euro to race and knowing that he won't get any money, even if he would win the race? To me that is just unbelievable. All the money goes straight in the pockets of Youthstream / Luongo instead of the racers. We should be looking at the best riders of the world in the GP's, not the 5 best riders and 35 best paying riders!

geoff you have to admit the rear end of the field is weaker than it should be( if its there at all) a true fan will watch all the riders seeing who has come into the series who is improving and who is begining to fade away from their prime. You just watching the front of the field and having no intrest in the rest is shocking from a person in you position but i supose its the loungo effect he doesn't care about the back of the pack as long as they pay up, if he did we would have the riders mentioned in the field and better racing to watch.

I can't agree, I mean riders have been paying to be involved in the GP series for years, probably 20 years to be correct. I know of players paying to race the GPs all the way back in the early 1990s. The MX1 class is stronger than ever, it's our premier class.

I"ve spoken to a lot of guys who used to qualify and a lot of them were not that great, and often didn't take the GP experience that seriously. There are probably 20 to 30 good riders in MX1 and the last 10 does anyone really care. Sounds harsh, but it's the truth.

A lot of these kids who are paying are taking it seriously and like Josh Coppins in 1994 they might improve enough to get there eventually.

To say that there are 5 of the best and 35 who are just paying to race is really showing a lot of disrespect to a lot of very good racers. I would think more like 25 of the best in Europe and 15 who are maybe lucky to be there.

Look at the top 30 in the MX1 points. That is a pretty impressive list of riders in my opinion.

Geoff,

What, if anything, would you like to see change with the current GP format/set-up?

Wow, not sure off the top of my head. I mean the set-up is pretty impressive. We are visiting some pretty awesome circuits, despite what many people might say. The actual proffesional side of the sport is impressive. I would like to see the team find more budget from the factories or bigger sponsors, but they need to work on that and it's a long process.

I have no problem with riders wanting to race and finding a personal sponsor who pays their entry into a team. I love the way the Euro championships now run with the GPs, that is really going to help our sport no end.

It would be nice to see some type of prizemoney system formed, be that from outside sponsors or whatever. I mean once the prizemoney was taken out the riders got the teams to put into their contract roughly what they might have mad, so the riders, at least the top 10 or so in that era had that written into their contracts. Mind you that was then and I don't know how they do it now.

YS decided many years ago to put a lot of money into television and the presentation of the GPs. People don't understand that thats a pretty expensive excerise and it's made our sport look a lot better. Youthstream are always looking for ways to make the sport in Europe look cooler and they continue to hire people who can help them do that. That all costs money, but people just assume YS stick the money in their pocket, but it isn't the case.

I generally try and ask former riders what they think, and guys like Dave Thorpe has said he feels the riders don't know how lucky they are now with the professionalism of the sport and the way the circuits are prepared. I would rather listen to a guy like Thorpe than some bloke on a forum who just wants to be negative because everyone else is.

I would love to see the Saturday race as a mixed MX1/MX2 race, would be fun on some circuits to see how they would end up.

people are giving their opinion in forums .... and if it's negative .... maybe YS and partners shouldn't say that they are a bunch of idiots .... maybe they should listen to those people and learn something of it ....

If the comments are made from people who know what they are talking about I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately many people who are negative hardly visit the GPs and don't even know what riders are earning or what promoters are earning.

Circuits like Valkenswaard, Teutchenthal, St Jean d'Angely, Kegums, Uddevalla, Sevlievo, Loket, Lierop and more continue to be involved in the GP series and all do okay out of the GP series.

Visiting countries like Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, or Russia is really good for the sport in general.

In tough times I think YS are doing an awesome job.

May the record show I asked a question Is MX Sports leaving the AMA and there was no guessing in my post on Motonews. I don't make stuff up....it's an excellent habit.

So you're saying that MX Sports IS leaving the AMA? Which AMA? When?

Can we let the record show that?

Thanks Jeff.
It just seems that your grudge has you talking in accusatory circles without really coming right out with anything.

It also seems that DC has answered the question - which didn't really seem necessary to do but he did it anyway.

Just how I'm reading all this back & forth nonsense.

My name isn't Jeff BTW....
