I'm an American...but I wouldn't mind seeing Herling beat Dungey on the 450. Here is my reasoning...Dungey is in cruise mode and I feel he is not prepared for Poto, Reed, Canard or Stewart come A1. It would be nice to mess with his head so he buckled down even harder in the off season.
you dungey haters sure are funny. Dungey not prepared? Hes more prepared than the couch potatos coming off injuries you mention here. He has the confidence, the momentum, a great bike team and family, no injuries, works harder than anyone, wins all the time. Ya . sure. hes not prepared, right. uh huh. I think 2013 will be just like 2012 with lots of injuries, Dungey has the best chance of staying healthy of all the fast guys, he proved that in 2012. his riding style is super smooth, fast, calculated, smart, clean. It looks like he is cruising but he is hauling ass. He doesnt care about showing off or criss crossing all over the track and looking spectacular, he just gets the job done and picks the fastest lines, usually the insides. stays really low on jumps, awesome throttle control, very respectful to his fellow opponents, unlike a dick like alessi. go head keep hating dungey he will keep racking up wins even with everyone healthy. but you also have to remember supercross is shit compared to outdoors and dungey cares more about succeeding in outdoors than SX, mx is real dirtbike racing supercross is pretty shit, really. What im saying is dungey just wants to stay healthy throughout supercross and get some wins, i dont think he will be disappointed to lose supercross to villopoto, but i think dungey really wants to beat poto heads up in 2013 motocross... but dungey could still easily win 2013 supercross championship. end of rant.

Yes, all three moto's could be won on a 350, Thing is there not lacking that much compared to the 450's even on a freeway like the track in this vid.

there's no replacement for displacement?

I especially enjoy the weekend warrior complaining that they don't have enough power haha

The biggest reason imo why Alessi failed on the 350 is because he was on a 450 for awhile before
and isn't Cairoli riding a 400cc bike or something, Herlings is fresh off a confident mx2 championship he is a great 250 rider
and it could transfer into him being an even better 350 rider in the sandWink
and its Awesome he showed some respect to Dungey at the end

Yes he's respectful,he knows exactly how fast those guys are, think he's been brought into line a bit by his superiors,he's been under a lot less pressure than earlier on in the season too,he's still young, those outbursts are fairly similar to some of Barcias (apart from that Bercy incident!) I suppose it comes from winning while young

He does practice on the 350 too,as for AC,his YZ was reported as sleeved down to around 400 to take the edge off but just a rumour about his KTM not being a 350,does it really need to be anyone would have to ask?

This MXdN is as anticipated as any I can think of,and its not even in my own country!

yeah I've heard that the KTM mechanics just laugh when someone questions if Cairoli's is a 350 or a 380 or a 400 or a whatever else... talk about a compliment haha

"that little grin at the end tells me he is confident but doesn't want to put himself in a must-win situation by running his mouth"

Where the hell do you see those things? I don't want to spoil the thread with x s better then y but am i the only one NOT seeing what Switch is seeing?
I'm just saying I have not heard him praising another rider like that before, but he seems confident, which he definatley should be. How could you not be when the MXdN is on a track you are known to dominate on?

You might be right, I might have read too much into that, but just throwing out what it sounded like to me. IMO, the "X is better than Y" stuff is already beating a dead horse, and has been for years. Good bench racing isn't bad though.

Thing is American's constantly go on about how great their riders are and how they are better than GP riders. At Lake elsinore the commentators declared Dungey the best rider in the World! American magazines rarely cover the GPs, and never put a GP rider on the cover of their magazines.

In 2009 Dungey couldn't name a GP rider, bar the ones that were racing in the US. RV couldn't say a name of a rider he thought would win the MX2 class at the Belgian GP. That too me is pretty disrespecful to the World Championship, that those guys don't even follow it. ( and I think those guys are really nice people, but it shows the attitude prevalent in the US)

Herlings has already said how awesome Dungey is and he expects Barica to be really fast! There is a lot more respect for America in the rest of the world than the US industry seem to have for World Championship, it seems they barely even follow it.

Then when someone says how fast Herlings is based on nearly lapping the field, and say that he could give the Americans (individually) some competitiion, Americans get totally offended and threatened as if it is threatening their perceived superiority and it is somehow disrespecful? I don't understand. Is it ok to declare the US national champ the best in the world but not the World Champ?

Other people from other countries don't feel threatened like that when Herlings is said to be so fast. British guys who don't like Herlings still accept he is an amazing rider, even Tommy Searle has said that.

It's ok we all know Americans are great riders, but so is Herlings (and Cairoli) there is no need to feel threatened, it's just that individually riders from other countries are just as fast. I don't see how that is so inflammatory.

And I think everyone expects USA to win the team race... they have three amazing riders. I can't wait to see them ride, especially Dungey. Love watching that guy ride a bike.

Its a little disappointing but I don't think its disrespectful that neither Dungey or Villopoto know many/any of the GP riders names.I just think they're just pre-occupied by their focus in America.

You have to remember the riders probably have a different mindset than us fans when it comes to following the races. They're only interested in their own results.

Yea this is true, but I think it highlights the difference in mentality and exposure too, and is the root cause of the many debates on here.

I mean the GP guys still follow America and know the riders (probably not as closely as we do but still), it isn't the same when it comes to the US guys (riders or fans) following the World Championship. David Pingree didn't even know how many world titles Stefan Everts had.

Americans are really only interested in America. I mean look at our British mx magazines and a US magazines. The US has 90% US racing. the British mags have US, GP, and British racing in them.

So if you are American and you have been told that the US series and US riders are the best without exposure to the World Championship, and see that the US win the nations every year, then for someone to claim that Herlings can beat them, seems, to them at least, as a bit stupid, because they are brought up to believe they have the best riders in their series. Which I think is why we get some of the responses here when anyone says Herlings is fast.

Whereas for people that follow both ( I know that includes some American's too) then it seems a lot more realistic.

Yeah I agree with you on the exposure thing, especially when Emig and Weege blurt out the perennial line; "The fastest 40 motocross riders in the world" before every National.

RacerX does do its fair share of reporting on the GP's to be fair... but my guess is that most fans just choose to ignore it.

Yea with the internet it is getting better, and Racer x has a few articles on it now which is good.

Yea and I think part of the reason is they don't really know the riders etc, there is no human interest in it for them, no hype or storylines to follow, like there is with the AMA coverage, where everyday there is an article on an aspect of the series, a build up to the next round and interviews with the riders.

eg.even the media aren't quite sure about simple things lol Weege thinks Gordon Crockard is Scottish lol In fact I am not quite sure Ping and Weege know the difference bettween Scotland and Ireland/N.Ireland going by the podcasts as ping keeps doing Southern irish accents when talking about Wilson and talking about leprachuans ha ha Laughing MXA think Shaun SImpson is English #ouch lol

I think the average fan over here does appreciate the level of talent in other parts of the world and realizes that we don't have a lock on raising fast talented riders. We just happen to have the series that most want to compete in and we our lucky to have most of the best in the world racing in it.

I also think it's harder to make the 350 work on the National scene than it is in the GPs. Cairoli has said on a couple of occasions that if he were going to race the Nationals, then he'd have ride a 450 because the tracks require the extra hp. Also, it seems Mike has a better overall affinity with Suzuki than he does with KTM maybe.. idk. But he does seem to gel very well with the RMZ.

I was hoping Jeffrey would ride the 350 at the German GP. Now that'd be some race! Roczen, Herlings, Cairoli all on 350s and the rest of the usual suspects etc. Epic.

Dungey is from Minnesota, Barcia is originally from New York and Baggett is californian, Tomac is from Colorado, Stewart Florida.. anyway that is a bit different from confusing countries. I think most people know they are all from the USA Wink

Not knowing what COUNTRY top GP riders are from is a pretty embarassing mistake from a top mx journalist.

New York is different from Cali and the deep south is different again.

Do you know the different accents in my country say Ballymena and Belfast?

The most of the best in the world don't compete in it that's my point. That is the American perception that I am talking about, thanks for proving my point.

The GPs are just as good for talented riders and don't favour one countries riders either. There are riders who don't even race GPs that can score points in the US nationals. But because you guys have the perception of most of the best race in the US, then you will be less inclined to follow the GPs because you think not as many of the best race there since "most" race in the AMA>

There are far more nationalities in the World Championship than the AMA. The level in the US isn't any higher, which is why the World Championship deserves as much respect and coverage as the AMA series.

I watch both series because they both have top riders in them,.

I understand the basics of your arguements and agree that the journalist should do a little more research and improve their knowledge base before writing something. My point about the which state a rider is from here in the USA is that it is in a sense the same as being from different countries over there ( and yes I realize that we all speak basically the same language here... Smile . Do you know a Brooklyn accent from a Boston accent or a Georgia accent from a Tennessee accent? I think maybe you put to much stock in what you read on these forums and the limited point of view we American vitards have when we start twistin our keyboard throttle. But I still believe there is more depth and tougher competition here at the moment because of our amateur system and our pro series.

And just for the record... Herlings looks like a badass in the sand for sure and I hope that he puts on a show!

So you're saying if Tito Santana was WWF champ and Hulk Hogan was the Intercontinental champ. Tito's better? I don't think so.

You do realize that is your OPINION right? You state it as factual.... To me your constant bombarding of GP riders are awesome posts takes you beyond the normal YANK chest thumping..

In my OPINION.. As long as top GP riders come here, say in interviews things like "I wanted to race in the U.S. because the fastest riders are here and to be the best in the world I knew I had to come here" (Ken Roczen PulpMXshow) then that's all I need. GP riders come here, say it over and over in American media, what do you expect for them to believe? Pit Bierer said in an interview after Dungey won the title "Now that we finally won in America I asked my boss if I can retire now"....The only people that seem to think GP series is as difficult to win are GP riders that stay there to sandbag, and their fans..

I think you have a chip on your shoulder. No one says the GP riders are slow. GP riders aren't slow. There can be riders of amazing talent over there, but if as a rider I had to choose the easier series to win it would be GP's. I see it much like amateur racing ..there's a couple of guys that go really fast in each class and a few pretty good riders who battle tooth and nail. I know you think because it has world in front of championship that means it's a true world championship or the fact that it travels to multiple countries somehow makes it more credible. By your logic the olympics this year was just the London City Championships.

Roczen has been here all year, and I think he is a better rider now than he was 12 months ago. I think GP fanboys feel he is riding worse.. but he has had to push himself all summer while Herlings rides around waiting for sand races and Cairoli cruises to victories.. I expect Roczen to go 1-1 this weekend.. I will wake up early and watch it just like every other GP this year.

The sad truth of it all.. is even if we lose the MXDN..it won't even dent the confidence of Americans, or their belief that nationals aren't the hardest races to win. We go there with the attitude.. as long as we don't crash or DNF we will win. American riders look unaggressive and bizarre while over there. All the while GP riders are yard saling left and right around them trying to beat the Americans. This is what I expect to happen to Herlings.. Everts has been the only rider to deliver in the last decade.

mccread... do you know which state all of our riders are from and/or know the different accents and where they originate? I think the average fan over here does appreciate the level of talent in other parts of the world and realizes that we don't have a lock on raising fast talented riders. We just happen to have the series that most want to compete in and we our lucky to have most of the best in the world racing in it.

Being from a different state is not the same as being from a different country. That is pretty disrespectful to other countries.

Holland is not the equivalent to Colorado, it is the equivelant to the USA because they are both countries. Herlings is not my rider , he comes from a completely different country. He is just really quick, just like I think Dungey is really quick.

The size of the country is irrelevant. Everyone's nationality and country is as important as anothers! obviously each country has different accents in their own country, we have different accents here in NI, that you don't realise either.

Of course you believe that lol you're American, and have been brought up to believe that through the US MX media that believes that and gives very little coverage to the World Championship. If I lived there I would think that too, I have been to the US, it is so easy to think that way,and I was only there two weeks at a time, the exposure to the rest of the world in limited, and your country is so big you can be self sufficent especially in MX.

The World championship is just as tough as the US series. I don't like the GPs anymore than I like the AMA series either, both are equally good to watch.
