What complete nonsense, and shows how stupid you are, and how disrespectful you are to other countries because they aren't the same size as the US. Northern Ireland is totally different to Italy. Just like the US is totally different to Italy.

What you mean is Americans struggle outside their own country a lot more than people from other countries, because they are more insulated, hence why they don't want to ride the World championsip.

mccread, how many times do we have to say "SCOREBOARD!" You're so dense it's unbelievable!

Let me spell this out for you, and read it out loud to yourself a good five or six times before pressing that little reply button.

We beat you EVERY year - regardless of the country the race is held in!
Er again you are being stupid. You don't beat Europe at the MXDN, it is a countries race. You have never ever beaten Europe at the MXDN. Unless you are talking about my country? though I don't think I claimed team Ireland's riders to be better than America's, or GBs.

Winning the MXDN has nothing to do with racing the World Championship either nor does America winning it prove they are too good to race the World Championship.

Stop confusing arguements and thinking the American's winning the MXDN team race proves they are better than all GP riders.

Individually Roczen beat Dungey last year and baggett got lapped. You think Belgium beating Italy means Desalle is better than Cairoli even though Desalle gets beat by Cairoli in the World Championship?

Racing the world championship is totally different, Individually they are all close and if you put them in the World Championship it would be some great racing, it is hard to say who would win.

Watching him in Lierop two weeks ago I was staggered, really surprised by how fast he was. I have seen RC smoke Everts at Zolder and I also got to see RC at Southwick and both are awesome sand riders. I've seen Everts riding Lierop where I also thought, WOW, but the feeling I had watching Herlings in Lierop I''ve never experienced as a Motocross fan. It was amazing how slow he looked, but he fast he was. He lapped riders like Van Horebeek and Searle, both pretty handy riders. I mean I am truly excited to see if he can do the same to Cairoli, Dungey and the others, because it''s possible. His lap times were sometimes 5 seconds a lap quicker than Antonio, and Antonio is a pretty awesome sand rider.

He might be to sand now what James Stewart was to Supercross many years ago.

So if the World guys won over there at such diverse places, they should expect to adapt to America and win the same way right?

Everyones entire arguement circles around the fact that its hard to adapt in the US. Then you turn around and say they have to adapt to race the world races anyway and have no trouble doing that.

What?

The world championship is a more equal playing field than a national championship to decide who the best rider in the world is.
And it is amazing to me that you take every step you can to make the US Nationals look inferior. I could start a race in my back yard and call it the "Grass Track World Championship" but it still doesn't mean the best guys in the world will race in my back yard!

No one will win this arguement, you are entitled to your opinion just like I am. Have a good day.

Can we not just have one thread for all this rubbish? A permanent AMA vs GP thread were people can argue and attempt to change peoples minds all day long? Its litterally everythread nowdays.. and before someone says 'well dont open the thread' half the time the title of the thread has nothing to do with the direction a thread takes... Its pretty sad

The guys ride motorcycles on dirt, this is motocross. During a championship, they all race the same tracks, suffer the same jetlag, they poop, they eat, they breath all the same. What is different between AMA and the world championship? NOTHING! The only disadvantage I see for whoever that cross the pond and I don't give a shit from which side cause it's the same, it's the time to acclimate. I would say the first year. The rest is bullshit. The world championship is no more equal playing field just because it's all around the world. At the end it's riders on their dirtbikes on the same track during the same championship and that is equal Then why not argue on the riders weight (Baggett is a feather), the differences between bikes etc...

MXdN AMA vs GP (regardless of country), AMA usually wins that race.

I am not making the US nationals look inferior. I am making a logical point. The US nationals are a great series similar in level to the GPs, but it is not a fair playing field to find the best rider because it favours riders of that country, that's all I am saying.

The world championship is the same level as the US Nationals, but it is a more neutral series because it goes to different countries so it is a better barometer to decide who the best is. Who would win? You can't really say unless they race it, and that's my point, they are all so good.

The fact you disrespect the World Championship as the world championship is part of the problem.

Geoff, Chad Reed gets plenty of well-deserved respect here, but I really don't think he got much from the GP press or Euro fans here for winning the first moto of the 2011 MXoN, and that was after an injury late in the summer from his spectacular Millville crash... His win didn't seem to mean much to anyone over there, not sure why.

I believe Herlings will win the MXoN no matter what bike or what class he rides, which begs the question: Why not put him in MX2 and run up a gap there?

It always comes down to third rider, and our third guy is always someone like a Windham, a Ferry, or a Short or a Tedesco, or even Ryan Villopoto last year. We have a deeper talent pool, pure and simple. But we lack sand, so....

I think we'll still be fine, and I can't wait to see Herlings ride in the sand again.

Is it just me or does Geoff and McCread just come off as whiny. LIke they are little kids on the play ground pleading others to play with them. Like they are begging for Americans to see their championship as legitimate.

Agree Geoff, if those American's rode the World Championship, they wouldn't be as dominant, American's forget how much racing in their own country helps them. Baggett is not better than Roczen just because he beats him in his own national championship, it is not a fair comparison.

Racing a world championship is so different to the US nationals or any national series, and that is the true barometer as there is no constant home country advantage, and you have to be able to adapt to racing in different countrues and different types of track. Doing that is what makes people the best in the world.

Until they all race the World Championship (which in turn would lead to some GP races in America assuming the Americans started following the series) then you can't say who would win. But obviously they are all very close.

What????? so consistently beating somebody over a 12 race series "is not a fair comparison" really? I'm pretty sure if a top US rider raced the GP's and had the results that Roczen had in his first year both you and Geoff would claim world domination!

Both Marvin and Ken are great riders that reached the pinnacle of the sport in the GP's and both chose a greater challenge to be the best of the best, it's not about the money or the lifestyle or anything else it's about winning and becoming the best, it's what drives these guys. It's unfortunate that their GP fans in an effort to discredit the series they chose to race in turn actually discredit them as racers.

' the best of the best' . what complete arrogance again. You are the one who refuses to accept that the GP series and non american riders are just as good as the AMA nationals and American riders. That is disrespectful.

You don't know if Dungey would beat Cairoli to a GP title. They are all great riders but US riders are not a level about World Champions they can all beat each other.

Yea Roczen racing American's in America is not a fair comparison because they are racing him in their own country. They have a huge advantage.

Baggett wouldn't beat Herlings in the Dutch Nationals either, but it wouldn't be the fairest comparison either since it is in Herlings' home country. It just means that Herlings is better than baggett in holland.

You make Baggett live in Germany learn German and take Roczen on in the German nationals and it would be harder for him too.

Again, you are not comparing like with like... the The GP series is not a national championship so it is far more comparable, since they race in different countries.

That is the beauty of it.

Dave Thorpe is 100% right in what he says too about the American attitude in mx illustrated....' they talk themselves up, and they talk us down.'

They reality is Americans are great riders but so are the top World Championship riders.
Arrogance? those are not my words but the words of the guys that came over to race from the GP's. Ask Kenny and Marvin why they came over and they will both say for the competition, they are aware of the challenges and I think both have adapted very well and enjoy the lifestyle here. The true arrogance is coming from you or maybe it's ignorance. I agree it would be tough for Baggett to live in Germany without knowing the language and lifestyle, but that's not what Kenny did, he speaks English fluently, and has for most his life, and has tested the waters in the US since he was on 80's. I like how you put that "if you make Baggett live in Germany" Nobody made Kenny live anywhere he chose to come here the question is why? The answer is simple, like any champion he wants to show that he is the best and to show that you have to race the best (again an FYI not my words so you can't use the arrogance card).
The end of the day they are both race series that crown champions, they both have their challenges that have to be overcome and neither is easy, in no way am I trying to discredit the GP's or their riders who unlike you with your arrogance constantly try to discredit the races and racers in the US.

Nope, the three best finishing GP riders from France last year, in their class, would have beaten the US score.

In 2009 Americans got beat individually at times too. same in 2008.

Put Dungey and RV in a world championship and they will not walk away with the series.

GP riders are just as good as American riders and vice versa. The fact you won't believe that shows your arrogance.

The only way fair to tell who is better is if they all race the World Championship because on any given day they can beat each other and if they did the US would get more GPs.

That will never happen because Americans prefer racing and living in their own country.

Can't totally agree there. I think if we split moto wins it's pretty close. Cairoli, Paulin, Searle, Herlings, Roczen and others have beaten AMA guys in recent years at the MXoN and on a regular basis.

Team wise I don't even think a combined GP team could beat Team USA. Villopoto, Dungey and Baggett against Cairoli, Herlings and Desalle and I still go with Team USA for the win.

What would be awesome is two ten man teams, AMA versus FIM.

Villopoto, Dungey, Stewart, Baggett, Barcia, Tomac, Alessi, Reed, Roczen, Musquin versus Cairoli, Desalle, Herlings, Searle, Pourcel, Paulin, Van Horebeek, De Dycker and maybe Roelants.

I give that one to the AMA riders too.

I stay up till 3 am to watch the Nationals on Sunday morning then stay up till 1 am Monday watching the GP's
and I literally can not wait for the des nations
all this competing for which riders in which series are better is ridiculous and retarded there'll never be an answer no matter how much you all type at each other

we can't agree who the best rider is after 17 supercross' and 24 motos on 12 different tracks so why do you think we have an answer after 3 motos on the one track? (the GPs are a bit different can't deny Cairoli)

one more thing.. not much annoys me more than ignorance and there's a heapin helpin of it this thread (and threads like it)

Can't argue with that. Like I said, we wouldn't win every MXdN in the AMA vs FIM race, but we would win most of them. I think the top 10 would be a fun race to watch...

He was the world champion last year, he had proved he was the best, he also beat Dungey on a 250f and lapped baggett

Ken went there to ride supercross and to test himself in that arena.

Of course you are arrogant, you claim American riders are better than riders in the world championship, even though they never race the World Champ in the world championship.

I claim the series are similar but different ( how is that arrogant?), you claim american riders and the ama series is better than the World Championship.

You do not know if Dungey is better than Cairoli, so you do not know if he is the best or not. Claiming US riders are better than World Champions is arrogant. Saying they are pretty similar, but until they all race the World Championship you can't say the US guys are better is not.

All I said was that the AMA nationals are not a fair comparison because it favours riders of that country. That is not being arrogant at all.

Kenny had to learn English, just like Baggett would have to learn German.

I think Herlings wants to win the inderviduel overall, and not only that he rode the bigger bike last year and Holland don't really have another big bike rider. Actually at the GP of Lierop Glenn Coldenhoff the MX2 rider for Holland looked pretty good, nearly winning the Saturday qualifier and then coming back from bad starts and crashes to finish I think 6th overall.

I hope Herlings doesn't have too much bad luck, because he might just do something that makes Villopoto in 2007, Everts in 98, Malin in 94, Chandler in ?? and whoever else look really average. Man, if he gets beaten I am going home early, hahaha.

As for Reed, I think everyone is so busy here with Team USA that anything done by Reed, or Rattray or any other AMA rider is ignored. I mean Reed, Rattray, Searle and Herlings all should have been given a lot of credit for last year, they all rode awesome.

I agree about Herlings riding MX2, I think that would make more sense for Holland. Coldenhoff would be fine in MX3.

I think USA will win too, I also think Dungey and Barcia will be far quicker than some people here are predicting and Baggett should be at least Van Horebeek speed.

Herlings, I think he could win both his races, but it won't be as easy as people think and it isn't a guarentee. Barcia, Cairoli, Dungey, Nagl and even Roczen will be doing all they can to stop him.

As for Reed, I thought his win was pretty awesome, but then i'm a Reed fan, the guy looks awesome on a bike, such a pity he can't ride it this year.

Cairoli wants a Europe v USA race like the ryder cup and reckons Europe could win...
That would be an awesome race.

Europe could have...(plus many others)

Cairoli
Roczen
Herlings
Desalle
Pourcel
Nagl
Frossard
Paulin
Van Horebeek
Searle
Musquin

USA

Dungey
RV
Stewart
Tomac
Baggett
Barcia
Alessi
Grant
Weimer
Millsaps
Canard

That could be the best race ever!

That would miss a lot of riders.

A straight up

AMA vs GP's would be so much better.

AMA mx2 would kill it. GP MX1 would more than hold it's own.

Wow! just Wow!

I'm arrogant because I quoted what both Roczen and Musquin have said. Please tell me at what point I brought Cairoli and Dungey into this. I think you have said a lot more than "it was not a fair comparison". Again please read slowly I did not and am not saying or claiming that US riders are better than GP riders I only repeated what both Roczen and Musquin have said.

Are you my ex wife? I swear you argue the same!

That is complete and utter non-sense! Racers in Europe traveling from country to country provides about as much culture shock as our guy's traveling from California to New York! It has little to no effect on European racers. Europeans are much more well traveled than Americans, as it's part of their culture. To hop between countries in Europe is a complete non-event.

The term "World Championship" is a relative term and nothing but a play on words.

"Northern Ireland is totally different to Italy. Just like the US is totally different to Italy"

So if the World guys won over there at such diverse places, they should expect to adapt to America and win the same way right?

Everyones entire arguement circles around the fact that its hard to adapt in the US. Then you turn around and say they have to adapt to race the world races anyway and have no trouble doing that.

What?

Edit: And calling someone stupid definitely does not make you look smarter.
i'm with you on the travelling thing as its a bollox argument when all the riders do really is fly in and either eat in a hotel or what is prepared in the team truck, its not like the old days when they drove from country to country stopping at a restaurant to eat and then getting the shits because they were not use to the food .
As i have said its the style of racing thats different and the intensity.

Ryder cup style every second year, 2 day event with 3 motos over the 2 days. To find out who is the fastest series and individual.

MX1/MX2 classes separated.

Representing yourself and your series.

Now that would be some good racing and bench racing right threre.

There you go again not telling the whole story....Baggett got lapped but he still beat your 6x champ Cairoli....why don't you say that?

Just answer one question. If an individual rider beats another rider at the MXoN, does that make him better in your opinion? This is a yes or no answer.......

Roczen has 24 chances to beat the best lites riders in the world this year and he did it once......

Post a reply to: Until this happens anything we mention is BS
