Does this maybe open the door for a 125 support race?

I have seen turnouts at the local track races go from 1 or 2 women to 10-12 women in the last year . They have something to aspire to . This hurts the sport , sales , and participation . I know Fiolek was moving on anyway but do you think the top girls spend the money to drive around the country to every amateur day ? The Factory rigs will be rolling to the next race on Sunday not staying until the women are done . There will be no more factory or top team women riders . No one will transport their bikes .The interest will die off and the local turnouts will go back to 1-2 women . There are only a few women in the world who could possibly obtain a mens pro license . To be a womens pro will mean nothing now . Right now girls see these WMX races and think they could do that someday . I agree they are not anywhere near the mens caliber but they do have a place in our sport on Saturday .

From Ashely's post at Pro-Moto Talk...links and hot-buttons won't work...just the text...go over to Pro Moto for all the goodies...My opinion? This young woman is a Class Act and a Bad-Ass on a CRF250R.

My Facebook just blew up with my female motocross friends sharing THIS IMAGE posted by Chix MX, a page advocating female amateur riders. Officials announced at a managers meeting that the WMX series would be moved to Sundays following the races. Yes, the womens' races will now be on a day initially intended for amateurs.

Let me first start off with a note about the email from Davey Coombs shown in the picture. That email is from 2011 and is purely the views of Davey. From what I read, he is by no means saying that women don't deserve to ride. He is only saying that he thinks they shouldn't be on the same day ast the 450 and 250 professional classes.

Now, it's my turn to give my point of view on the whole thing. I respect the women who ride professionally. I think that they are great riders and definitely deserve to have a professional class. That being said, I agree with Davey that it shouldn't be on the same day as the men's classes. Simply put, the outdoor nationals are just as much a business as they are an event. Each spectator is a paying customer. And customers pay more if they are happier.

I have read and heard my fair share of complaints about the women's class. It seems like the general consensus is that, while no one thinks that these ladies should stop riding all together, it's not something that should take place on national day.

Also, think about this. So many fans, women included, complain about how motocross is not broadcast as one live chunk. Here's a solid fact from a journalism major: if Southwick would have been broadcast 100 percent live, the portion where the WMX race would lose a massive amount of viewers.

Alli Sports, who live streams every first moto, does not hire their commentators Jason Weigandt and Jeff Emig to announce the WMX first moto. Instead, they transfer the audio over to the track commentators. That's killing two birds with one stone if I ever saw it.

I think that WMX fans are blowing this change out of proportion. Women are still riding. There is still a WMX class. It's even still being counted as the professional ranks. But, simply put, the business came first for MX Sports and they are being moved to a different day. I'm not quite sure what the big deal is. The only thing that is being changed is the day they ride. And who knows. Maybe more people will actually watch the races on Sunday.

Long overdue and good riddance.

I blame the media. The women get nowhere near the coverage and I'm not talking about TV. There are stories there that is not being told and after race day coverage that would bring interest that isn't being reported. Interviews ect. Not to just pick on Racerx but all the mags but I'll use Racerx as an example. If you go to Racerx now you will see Steel City go pro laps, 450 words, 250 words, sign of lap times, observations, 5 minutes with. None of which have anything on WMX. There was some coverage there they could have done for the women. There was also the way the WMX races are presented on race day. Like an intermission race. I'm just saying it could have been done better and maybe the outcome would have been different. There was come back stories this year and a pretty exciting chase to the championship with the points. Nothing is being covered on this. Who will win. No excitement. When you act like it doesn't matter it won't. It is ashame.

Why are you guys assuming this has anything to do with the 2013 season? The email is dated September 29th 2011! Didn't MX Sports originally plan to move the WMX class to Sundays for the 2012 season? If I had to guess, that's what this email is about, not the 2013 season.

Pretty entertaining especially the first year. Without emerging talent it's difficult to follow anymore. Fiolek vs Patterson is not worthy of a third moto at the nationals.

That was my take on it as well. Yeah yeah yeah a 125 pro class would be a awesome to get all nostalgic about, but involving women in this sport has a MUCH MUCH bigger upside then getting local pros to raid craigslist for a 4 yr old 2 stroke for there once a year chance to race on the day of a national.

I hope it stays as is, they need a platform to sell themselves to sponsors, that wont happen with them racing on amateur day in front of 2 men and a dog, alongside c class, vets and 65's.

Young girls all over the world need something to aspire to just like young boys do, take that away from them and they'll run away from this sport faster then you can say braaaap.

From what I understand, I think you'll find that the WMX is on the way out at Nationals next year, except for maybe a couple events.

Look To the Woman's GP past years riding whit the mx1 and mx2 gp's nice fot the girls and sponsors.

If this does happen, and WMX moves to Sundays, will teams like Muscle Milk Honda and Rockstar Suzuki stick around an extra day to support their Women riders, and give them the same support as their 450 and 250 riders?

That was written by someone named "Hales". Is that Ashley's secret nickname or something? Sure doesn't sound like it was written by someone who races WMX since the author seems to support the idea...

There wasn't a WMX race at Steel City this year, and it was one of a few reasons why I didn't bother attending. My girlfriend loves watching the WMX riders and was less than enthused to go this year when WMX was cut from the Steel City schedule.

That being said, you're 100% right that the coverage needs to be stepped up. The championship is super tight this year, and both JP$ and Ashley are racing with or coming back from injuries, and it's tighter than the 250 class right now (5 points between them!). I haven't seen any mention of it at all in any of RacerX's recent tweets, just one online article that JP$ has shared a few times.

The email posted above was actually adressing women's and girls's class structure at Loretta's. It really had nothing to do with the future of the WMX or upcoming seasons. As a co founder of the organization Chix Mx, I have been bombarded the last couple of seasons by riders and families about the current mxsports class structures and rules pertaining to the female classes. One of the main complaints we have heard was the rule allowing WMX riders that didn't finish in the top five overall the previous season to compete at the amateur nationals. Many people feel it isn't fair to let a WMX pro compete at the amateur nationals. The excerpt of the email above was DC's rebuttal and his opinion of the majority of WMX riders. He feels the WMX events are basically Pro/Am events. This is very offensive to women who have worked and trained hard their whole life in hopes of making it to the pro ranks. I think the reason most of the females are upset is due to the fact that it is quite demeaning to be moved from racing on the pro day back to racing on amateur day. I know as advocates for female motocross, we are interested in growing the female market and future opportunities. If this change really happens it will be a major setback in the forward momentum women have been making. I realize there is a great deal of anti women motocross sentiment on the Vital Mx forums and am not looking for confrontation or a fight. I'm just trying to explain the context of the email that was posted above.

Pretty sure Hales is "Scoop" that has made a few guest appearances on the PulpMX show of late. She sounds like a young aspiring moto journalist. Ashley is moving on with her life and, in my opinion, doing the right thing by getting an education. A role model 'til the end.

We were at High Point this year. The WMX race was pretty entertaining. Better than the 450 Dungey show.My wife thought it was pretty cool to see the girls race. I guess it all boils down to money. IMO a 125 support race is retarded. I'd rather have the silence..lol

My guess is that the 125 support class is not an option if MX Sports is trying to streamline the TV schedule. However, one can dream.

I feel bad for the women though. I don't think anybody was under the pretense that they were anywhere near as fast as the men but that doesn't mean they don't have a place in a National.

I'm not sure if anybody doesn't respect what WMX stands for, and the efforts by the racers, families, teams, etc... I'm not sure why anybody would be offended by having to race on amatuer day. Unless the intention, all along, was to ride the coattails of the MX Nationals, and take advantage of the press and media coverage afforded to the most prestigious mx championship in the world. WMX is not owed the opportunity to race on the day of a National event.

As been said to those that want a two stroke class, the women can start their own series if they believe there is a market for it

Anti women motocross sentiment?

Could it be possible that they are not women haters? Maybe they just aren't impressed with the quality or excitement of the races.

MX needs a "Redbull Rookies" style event on 125s. old Davey Coombs has mentioned something like this potentially materializing, so there is, in fact, hope in this world.

The fastest women need to get fast enough (maybe they already are) to qualify for Saturday's races...with the guys.

What do you bet they do it in SX, first?

Just my thoughts on the matter...

I've looked at and compared lap times at a few of the races this year. The top couple in WMX would be near the bottom, but make the field, in both the 250 and 450 classes.

Ya, i forget what round it was, we were talking about this subject in the race discussion thread, someone noticed that in the 2nd motos Ash and JP were turning the same laptimes as the guy who was 31st in the 2nd 250 moto.
