I gotta say, why do i see so many flat black helmets on top Riders??

My god they are ugly!!, And its the last color you want to have strapped to your head in the outdoor heat of the summer.. They look terrible on TV, and in person for that matter..

Ugh!!! Bring back the skittles colors of the 90's

So what makes you think the inside of a black helmet is any hotter that other colors ? A helmet is kind of built like coleman cooler with all the padding and styrofoam inside.

It's a current trend. It'll be over soon enough, and then you won't have to worry about it.

It's for TV reasons. My brother-in-law is a camera operator for NBC and this came up a year or two ago. Some of the newer paints they have been using on helmets cause issues with the way the camera picks up the video and it causes the pixels to come out really fuzzy and sometimes blurry on TV. Its a real problem on live TV because they don't have time to fix it before the race is aired. Most of the riders that get a lot of airtime where asked if they would be willing to wear helmets with flat colors in them and they were promised more airtime in exchange for doing that. Some of the riders made the switch.....some didn't. I made all of that completely up.......I have no fucking idea why there are so many flat black helmets lately.

I've been rolling flat black helmets for 8 years. I just think most of the stock designs are cheezy as phuck and I am not about to pay for a custom paint job with as many tree branches, roost and rocks I take to the melon. Not to mention kids knocking them off the hooks or me just setting it on my seat to get knocked over by wind or whatever. They are kinda like abortions...if you don't like em don't get one.

x2. I love that dude who shows up to the track with an unpainted helmet, 2 year old gear and no graphics and waxes the posers.

Fox has Matte Black Rockstar gear for 2013 also....

Personally it doesn't look any different from other black gear on the market. Maybe it's more Matte in the flesh.

Same for flat black rims...uugghh.

I saw a 2012 flat black Camero last month. Custom job. Looked like something out of Mad Max.

For how rough and macho MX is, its almost comical how petty, vain and image concious the grown men of the sport are. I'm just as bad. I just prefer more subtle stuff.

I could see MFGs doing this to save a little bread, but if u think about it they really arent saving that much... might as well give them the best you have.

Flat black and flamez never goes out of style, bitches. I just bro'd out this Pontiac for the Dream Cruise last weekend.

If my parents weren't in town this coming weekend I'd drive down to Indiana for the Shift Ride Day and get Jeff Emig to sign the dash. I already have a pimp hat, I'm sure Fro can get behind this particular automobile.

Not a big fan of the multi coloured garish designs, most of my kit is subtle. Less is more sometimes...

I was runnin them before they were cool because of that very reason haha I was livin on the gold coast and everyone was so shiny and bright! my mates and I would try to look as ratty as possible

in my last race (almost 10 years ago) I was runnin a self sprayed flat black helmet and body armour, which had tape numbers and gear with all the badges torn off and I blitzed all the shiny dudes (with my mate in second) haha was gonna post the video of it but I've done it a few times and everyone will be like 'oh man post it again dude' haha

I think I put too many haha's in this post
