Yeah, that sucks. Just when Byrne seemed to be getting back to his old self, he gets hurt. He woulda been real useful for our MXdN team Sad

Sorry to hear that about both guys. Get well soon!
Maybe my memory is just bad but I will be a SOB if Byrne has not come back from more injuries than anybody in my 50 year old memory.
I have always been a fan of his mostly due to his perseverance!

Its odd, but injuries always seem to happen when one is on the cusp of having a breakthrough.

Byrne today while leading after finishing 5th in the second moto last week. Hahn after getting a third in the first moto last week, Reed, last year at Millville said he thought he had something for RV. This year, reed looked faster then RV till he crashed out. Chisolm last year right before he got hurt in sx was starting to get faster. Albertson logged a couple of good quali times before breaking himself up at shougal. Izzi this year seemed to be riding stronger before having that bizzare crash, perhaps a top five was in his cards.

Tough sport indeed.

was rooting big time for burner in that first moto to pull it off.
I know the TV didn't show the actual crash as it happened during a commercial break, but are you saying Smith and Byrne suffered these injuries without crashing?
I don't know what happened for sure so just asking?

Byrne's wife said he didn't crash. He actually hooked his foot in a rut and the leg got twisted around behind him. Pretty common deal on such a grooved and deeply rutted track.

Was sooo pumped on Byrne's ride and then soooo bummed to see Byrne down, one of the most unlucky riders ever. He clearly still has the speed though.

I was very close to pegging my XXXX stubbie at the tv when I saw Byrner on the side of the track, I had butterflies watching him lead. I have been a huge fan of his ever since I saw him whip it so hard it scared me, though he was going to crash for sure, at a SX held at the Brisbane Ekka grounds & watching him kill it on a XR 650 at the Thumper Nats, this was all before he started riding in the US.
I'm sure he will be back as strong as ever in 2013

I was just to his right when the rut cought his foot and twisted it back. I winced when I saw it and knew right away he was all done. I was bummed for the guy. At that point, by my watch he had a 10 sec lead and was looking great. Get well soon.
This must have been a lap or 2 before the incident, because the rutted section that he caught his foot in is about 30' behind him in this pic, and by his point he was all sorts of out of shape when it happened.

Get well soon, guys. I'm sure Byrner and BTO were itching for that win. He looked smooth out there.

The team hasn't been selected yet but Burner would have been a shoe-in! With Reed, Burner and Metty out it's gonna be a tough year for the Aussies. Expect a young team of Aussie based riders to be selected. More than likely will be Todd Waters, Lawson Bopping or Jay Marmont, and Ford Dale or Luke Styke in MX2.
