Really like this guy. Seems like something has been missing the last couple of weeks. His confidence really seems to have taken a hit. Hope he gets back on track.

He's off to Germany this weekend, so hopefully he comes back rejuvenated.

From listening to Roger and seeing Kenny being frustrated I think we may see Roger pull him back out of Texas and get him focused. No doubt he has been having fun and what not but Roger will get him going. Maybe Florida training with RC and Dungey would be just what he needs. Drinking Redbulls and hunting pigs in Texas with the Shorts isnt ideal when you are racing an animal like Bagget who is being trained by Aldon Baker.

He's getting top 5's and almost winning races. Seems fine to me.

He does seem to have gotten worse over the last couple of races though. Earlier in the year he might take a 5th but then rally in the 2nd moto with a 3rd or a 2nd. Just lately he seems to always be 4th or 5th, sometimes higher if he inherits from a crash.

If he does have a fitness problem (which seems likely), at this point there's really only so much he can do about it. Maybe that's why he's been a little more "off" lately. He could be training extra hard during the week trying to make up that difference but in the meantime it's only going to knacker him out more. He might start to feel a benefit once the season is almost over or MXDN time.

maybe he's been reading all the negative comments on here and he's upset about it Laughing

i think its a confidence thing- he looks dejected on the podium, he will figure it out. I agree about dungey though- it would be a good thing for him to go and live/ train with dungey for a while. Maybe when dungey already has the championship wrapped up he could help kenny out a bit

Maybe staying with Dungey would improve his fitness, but I think more important than this he would soak in winning enviroment. It's like when a good rider signs with pc, that kind of mentality of the ones around you really influences you. No disrespect to Short, but he's not there.

I tend to think it isn't his fitness......but more of a "lack of aggression". Not towards other riders.....but the way he has been attacking the tracks. These last few races it looks like he isn't running at 100%. Maybe it is a confidence thing....I don't know?

Kenny seems like a really cool kid that seems to be frustrated a little. But he's racing against 3 really strong Americans that all want it really bad.....and now he has a Frenchman starting to pour it on at the end of the season. He needs to get that fire back he had at the beginning of the season and in SX.

Just what I see anyways.

Short is known to be one of the most professional rider out there, right ? I don't think Kenny is slacking, just that the competition is really hard this year. BB, JB, ET, KR and MM would go 2/3/4/5/6 every moto in the 450 class, and maybe give Dungey a run for his money.

Well when asked about Kenny, Roger said it was his weekly routine that is lacking. When Brooks was asked about Shorty, he said there is too much going on in Texas. The 2 of them are buddies for sure and no doubt train, but maybe there is too much fun stuff going on and neither of them are focused enough??

2 veterans paying a bit of respect to the rookie. Atleast they respect what he's doing and going trough...unlike some other 'hardcore moto guys'.

I agree.

I think that is proving tough for him, people forget how young he is becuase he has been winning for so long, but moving country at 17 isn't easy and his confidence isn't what it was last year either, and I think that injury didn't help lol

He isn't the same rider I saw at the MXDN last year. He beat Dungey that day and very nearly beat RV, lapping Baggett and smoking Musquin in France. (who had just came off a podium in the US).

Not that he is far off, but it is obviously taking it's toll on him. Like he said at Red Bud, its a learning year. He is a very smart kid, and he will learn quickly. He has the talent and riding ability to beat those guys but doing it in their home country isn't easy. It is so different from the World Championship.

As Roger said, "the level of competition is higher" last year there was 1 guy who could run with Ken and that was if he was having a really good day or it was a sand race. This year there are 3 guys who are faster and now a 4th. If it weren't for Baggett, Barcia and Tomac, he would be dominating the series and would have a SX title as well. His lifestyle and training methods probably wouldn't be questioned and his move wouldnt be an issue. Unfortunately for him, those 3 are here and now he has to find that next level and it isnt quit happening for him right now.

I expect the heat/humidity would have killed him (literally) if he'd jumped straight into that after his usual northern European climate.

And how unreasonable would it be for an eighteen year old to be feeling a little homesick?

He expected to come in and battle for wins. He did that. He didn't expect to not have one at this point. I bet if he had hung on to win at Hangtown or Budds Creek, he'd have multiple wins by this point. He might be home sick too but that isn't effecting him too much I don't think.

All this they don't have a clue tires me. Of course I dont have a clue. I'm just a fan bench racing like I would do at the track between motos with my pals. Thats what I come here to do. I don't understand what they expect.

I think Reed summed it up perfectly. I'm pretty sure Roczen COULD run with Baggetts pace but not right now

@RickyCarmichael the racing is always the easy part..It's everything in between, as you know that's the most important parts of success Smile

— Chad Reed (@CRtwotwo)

I think he's a bit homesick and just wants to go back with his friends and family right now. I hope he's a new 'Roczen' in Southwick! A track he should dominate on ...

It seems like all we ever get out of the Roczen fanboys are bold predictions and excuses.

and the same could be said for the guys who want to watch him fail.

it's black or white. love or hate.

why it is impossible for some to enjoy the racing and respect the kid is beyond me.

x2 (that will annoy Scottie ^_^)

I just think Roczen should win in Southwick. It's a sand track and he trained a lot in Lommel and other sand tracks in Europe. It's like Rattray who always does well in Southwick (he won the last 2 times?). Why would it be impossible for Roczen to do the same? To me it's logic instead of fanboy but what ever ...

The problem is is he isn't going to get away from that. Yea if those guys move up he will be number 1 but what happens when he moves to the big boy class? Not only will he have to deal with BB, ET, and JB; he will also have to face RV, RD, JS, and TC. At some point he is going to have to go toe to toe with those guys and if his fitness isn't there then he won't have a prayer.

Remember he is only 18, ET,BB,Barcia and Wilson are all 2 to 3 years older then him. At this stage in there careers thats a big amount of time. Look at how much better Kenny is than any of his comp was at 18.......

Tomac and Baggett are 19. Barcia and Wilson are 20.
