Not very smart here's his 266 foot jump, tons of parked trucks to hit if he crashed.
This was His first distance jump ever. I would know I'm the one who told him to hit it.

I was the one that did the YouTube video. It wasn't a planned jump that day. I didn't even have a tripod and only have a Dslr to film. I was shooting photos of Alex and my other friend. The trucks were close but not that big of deal. They were moved on the 425' jump Wink The measured 266' day was the first time he ever jumped off a metal ramp beside some smaller ones at the same place earlier that day. The actual record jump was silky smooth takeoff and landing. Not to mention it was the first and only attempt at it that day.

To answer someones q's , he was jumping the tracks owners bike a Honda CRF 450. He races currently on a 250 and 450 Kawasaki. the actual video from jump will be released in due time and it will be worth the wait. I also have footage of the progression of his few days jumping over a few months time period (feb 2012-may) that led up to the 425'.

Check out his blog to keep up as things progress. http://alexharvill.com
KJ......you wouldn't happen to know Tex Davenport would you? Was a good friend of his when he was working at the indoor arenacross track I ran. I had heard he moved back up that way from Texas......and was always into this type of crazy shit. That's why I was asking.

No, I don't think I know Tex D

I love how everyone always brings up the trucks near the landing.

GuyB. Would you please exercise your discretion as moderator and remove some of these posters and posts that can't figure out the topic of this thread was not how many insults I can throw per post, there are in fact some kids and ladies that visit this site that really don't need to wade through the cesspool dribble that attempted to divert this thread.

...and it all started over my question.
I understand it's distance jumping mr. smartass, my point is that Capes has done this, Seth Enslow has done this, Madison has done this, Trigger has done this, other guys I dont remember have done this.
What's the point of doing it again?
a video?
hopefully get money from Monster?
to say "i jumped the farthest ever?" really?
I don't buy it

Why does anyone even ride bikes than? Why did pastrana do what he did? Why did Carmichael win all those races? They want to push themselves and push the sport they love. Why do anything ?

Well, I'm interested in distance jumping. I think it's great these guys continually push the records. Hopefully your video shows the run-in and radar gun and all the elements of a 400+ foot leap.
Someone mentioned a run-in of 107 to 108 mph- that's hard to achieve on a 450R with the front fender installed.

Please post the video here on Vital when it's time.

Huge balls! prob some sort of titanium, then reinforced with a few layers of carbon fiber BALLS. He must need a dumptruck to carry them around.

I find it hard to comprehend how someone wraps their mind around that one...surely they are cut from a different cloth than the "normal" human being. Hitting the takeoff at a buck oh seven?? My GOSH i remember when the magic number was 300 feet, and that wasnt really that long ago.

Talk about pushing the envelope! is there a limit? when will it be just flat out "too far"? Never thought they would eclipse 400ft.

Hey Kevin, thx for all the info, i look fwd to the vid!

He was going 105mph on record jump. Day before the headwind kept him at 101-103. Had full gear and plastics only thing missing was helmet visor. We had a surveyed landing. Had a radar gun and very credible industry cinematographers there shooting footage. I manage his blog. It's current info. Just need to spend more time to make it more cool. Maybe after I get back from Washougal MX this weekend.

Alex is a super cool kid. Most of you don't know he won the vintage race at the Washougal National last year- Beat Mickey
Diamond! I rode with Alex in the dunes near Moses lake and he's an amazing jumper. He's got some serious skills.

The high speed component of distance jumping is nuts! As if being that high in the air for such a long distance isn't enough- you also have to ride a dirt bike over 100mph and hit a ramp!

It's a challenge to ride a dirt bike that fast. I get nervous over 90mph, and I've never had the nerve to hit 100.

Also, the front fender can mess you up at those speeds. Maybe distance jumpers use the front fender like a rudder?

They've jumped 425'?

I don't understand why you would try to discredit what the kid did? Fact is you were being a db when you asked your question. that would be the reason you got the smartass answer.

I am with kj...
