OK I screwed up not being as exact and detailed of what I was curious about in another thread.................

so, based on the last couple years of what is happening, in MX and SX, will you and/or your moto buddies put KTM in the running as a bike to buy along with the Japanese big 4??

Obviously KTM and Penton has been around and an option for a long time, but until very recently, nowhere near the success of J bikes in MX..........

so does the recent successes and changes in their program change your purchasing decision???

Me ? No, I'm a Honda- Kaw guy.

Never felt comfortable on anything else.

See folks fiddling with the KTMs way too much. Silly 11mm and 13mm nuts, too - that's nuts.

My KTM feels so much more better than my pig of a kxf that i had (and no, it's not a 2 vs 4 thing). They also have a much better quality finish and a bit more intelligence about them. unless KTM start suddenly falling behind in technology (airforks, etc), then i can't see myself going back to Jap.

Just cleared one more Japanese bike out of the garage this weekend that was taking up room next to the KTM144. Called today to get a delivery date on the 2013 150SX but they haven't been ordered yet. Late August/ early September delivery date from what I was told. With as little as they are discounting the 2012 150's I might as well hold out for the 13.

I would not by a bike because so & so is winning all of a sudden.

I Would by a KTM because they are awesome bikes, handel well, premium components, etc.. Local shop support might be a problem but you could always go online. It's just nice to have a local shop though.

Someone tell the moron above 11mm & 13 mm sockets are included in socket sets these days.

Like Rup.....I am partial to the jap bikes.....but I actually got to see one of the new KTM 450 ( RD replica ) up close and personal just last week at PIR......it is an incredible looking bike! And low and behold I'll be able to ride one as soon as I'm healed up. A good friend of mine just picked up up last month and we'll be meeting at Mtn View here in another month or so.

Thing is.....even if I really dig the thing....I can't justify spending $10,000 on a bike. I actually wait for last years models to come down to about $6000.00 before I pick one up. Maybe kaw next year for me.

I raced one back in 01 before it was cool to have a pumpkin

Still kicking myself in the ass for traiding my 2010 for a 08 RMZ and stupid amounts of cash

Recently traded my 09 CRF450 for an 09 150SX.

Can't believe it took me this long... I LOVE this 150. Most fun bike I've ever ridden.

Same story I'm hearing, end of Summer on the SXs. The markup for this year shouldn't be much from last year's model either.

I would be more impressed if KTM would have Dungey race one of their regular bikes instead of having to build a 200 piece special run that they sell for less than it cost to make in order to beat the Big 4's regular offerings.
If any of the rest of the manufacturers wanted to do this, it would be twice the bike the KTM is...

Don't hate, just keepin it real...

So, I guess, the answer is "NO"

That bike is now the 2013 model. It's not like they are going to be doing that again.

If you look at the history of KTM models over about the last ten years, their factory/works bike in any given year becomes the production model for the following year.

Also the way you've written it implies that the Japanese factory bikes are stock...

I'll be riding all the new KTM's at Hangtown on the 26th. I'll let ya know what I think. But i've liked the 450 the best. Then the 350 and the 300 2 stroke. The 250sx is awesome too but not good for a guy like me with a fused right wrist. I may buy the big 450 '13 Pumpkin this year.Though I love my Honda.........it is an 06.Unsure

I bought one, not because it is a KTM and a certain rider is winning or doing well on one, I bought one because it is a 350, if Honda had a 350, there probably would be a red one in the garage right now. To the guy that said the KTM's quality is way better than Honda's you need to put the pipe down There are some things they do different that are cool, but there are some things, that are still making me think wtf???

I feel KTM have had a pretty solid bike since the previous generation redesign in 2007, and especially recently with their latest redesign in 2011. They've been winning in Europe for quite some time now and really just lacked a premier rider like RD in America.

Awesome bikes as far as I'm concerned, great build quality and (at least for for me) reliability.

To answer the question - I'm probably more influenced toward a bike by what MXA say (and the other reviews I respect) and my personal circumstances, than I am with a bikes success or failure on the Pro scene. What those guys ride is obviously very different to what's on the showroom floor e.g the 2012 SXF 250 and what KR is riding.

With that said, there are some traits that are inherent to the nature of the motorcycle and therefore a factor in the factory bike.

I've spent a good amount of time on KTMs and I thought they were great. I especially liked the 350.

For me its all about dealer support. There are no KTM dealers in my area,so I'm riding Honda. I have the best MX dealer in the country 20 min from my door so its no magic button for me ;(. He had the option to sell orange but decided to stay with Honda and Yamaha.

I would never own one either. The Japanese have a quality product for the most part, there are some model years I wouldn't buy but KTM doesn't have good suspension and they are not reliable.
