.

Hope they get it worked out Mr. Ted.

Always fun to race there back in the early 90's.

Dan is still involved with the track I see.

Its a bunch of BS! I learned to ride motocross at that track (which explains why ruts scare the crap out of me) but there is no reason for Maricopa county to be doing this. Sounds like something California would do.

With the possible exception of Texas, Arizona is the best place I can imagine someone saying, "I own the land. Go screw yourself."

Then again, it doesn't sound like the guy owns the property.

sure hope it doesn't happen but in reading the article sounds like typical Dan Matthews attitude that he is god and can do anything he wants.................not a good idea to get the guys that control the property, the state and local government pissed off and on a witch hunt.........woulda been so much easier to just play by the rules............

What a crock of shit, that place isn't even around a residential area. I hope he can keep it open, I like to ride/camp there before the Phoenix SX. Drfletcher is right, they need more ruts on the track.

That's a shame. Aside from ACP and Verde Valey, nothing else comes close... Well back when I lived out there nothing did.

I believe that they have one of the only Supercross practice tracks in the valley for Pros too.
I know Clark goes there for that.

Possibly my favorite AZ track. Will be a tragedy if it is kaput.

I've had some good times there. I hope it doesn't close. I miss Arizona motos!

Yes, you must play by the laws the people have set up. Even on your own property you must abide by city/county/state rules. If you don't they have the means to shut you down. The problem playing by the rules is it usually costs money. But if the place is bringing in a lot of money it should not be a problem. He stated he would get the permits but he would not close down while getting them. He also makes a good point, He shifts dirt to change the track. He should not have to get a permit every time he wants to do a track change. Hopefully they can work this out.

ET now has an SX track. They bought Marty Smith's place behind ET and made an SX track. Also Motoland in Casa Grande has SX...but we really can't afford to lose another great track. It really sucked when Grindingstone closed.

The problem is that once a town becomes a city it breads people who make a living from these laws. It essentially goes from something that keeps everyone in check to something that is all about the officials staying in business. The more laws the more people money and power these officials control.

One day you give them the right to create zoning rules, 10 years later they are fining you 10k for not mowing your lawn (true story they just passed this in a city in NY I believe).

Land developers lobby the city council for more land to cover with houses. Council looks for ways to nitpick the track manager to death thus avoiding obvious appearance of bias. Standard operating procedure.

Sounds to me like both sides are doing a lot of posturing and ego flexing.

Fact is, if you don't abide by the local zoning bylaws you are going to pay the price.
