My first "real" motocross bike:

1971 CZ 125.

Didn't race that one.

My first race was in 1975 on a '73 CZ 250 (don't have any pics in my computer of that one) at Racing World/Escape Country.

First moto, I was the second rider to the first turn, and the last one out, after being run over by the rest of the field.

Don't remember how I finished, but it couldn't have been too good.

Second moto, stalled on the line, but managed to work my way up to third by the end.

Man I wanted that CZ125, Rex Staten talked my Dad into the DKW Hornet, instead.

Loved the Rubber band start at Escape country...got my first win there in 1972

First race was a scrambles in a field near Oakdale Calif. in 1965 on a 500 Triumph with the lights taken off & pie plates for numbers. After 2 restarts caused by first turn crashes I holeshot the field & led for 3 laps before crashing in a gully. It took me 2 laps to pick it up, that sucker was heavy & I was only 15 years old & weighed 135 lbs., finished the race though.
Mine was a 1970 2 hr Hare Scrambles on a 500 Triumph with a pie plate. An annual mid-February event the local club held. Inches of mud on frozen ground. Broke a throttle cable at the far end of the course. Had to push 350 lbs of bike and another 75lbs of mud about a mile.

I wish I had kept that one.

Bomb-proof bike, other than burning points all the time.

My 250 was cool too, but it wanted to either stall or loop-out off the line.

Eventually, Stuart Nunn (as long as we're name-dropping Wink ) taught me how to get good starts on it.

He said to rev the piss out of it, and kick it into second. No clutch.

Worked like a charm.

My first was on a Yamaha AT2-MX, on a short track in Baytown. I got smoked. Those guys hauled ass, I was shocked. 1971, I think.

First bike was a 1983 Yamaha PW50 which my dad got used when I was little. I got a 1994 one shortly after that. First race was on a 1999 Kawasaki KX60 which is my favorite bike I've ever had.

My first race was in 1980 on my trusty old 79 RM80.

I got lapped in the 80 beginner class.

My first bike was the exact same machine you see in bonepony's avatar.

About 1970, on my Kawasaki Green Steak 100cc at Corona on a Sat or Sun.. I had a Pirelli TT tire on the front and an enduro knobby on the back. The bike as I rode it was about the same as the one in Pro Circuits showroom. Entered the 100 novice class. Got 3rd in the first Moto. DNF 2nd and won the 3rd. Something like that. Wow that was awhile ago.

The bike was fast and reliable but I did all the wrenching on it. I was about 15 at that time. I used to show up at races and not even be able to start especially if it was wet. It had that air filter on the case. I couldn't figure how to stop it off. My fragile little mind was only fireing on 3 synapses.

Looking back at some old photo's here is one of my first race and my first race bike. I think the year was 1989 and I was on a 1986 yz125, think I finished 5th.

My first race was in 1987 on an 1986 YZ 80 at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale FL. I raced the mini B class, they ran the mini A & B classes on the track at the same time. Tim Ferry was running the A class and I think I got lapped twice by him.
Yeah, your right, that was a 87. This photo was taken right after the event. It was in Clewiston Flordia. We had a rubber band start, I think like 14 people in the class. I think I was 18 with a lot of energy back then. We ran some long motos back then. Ferry used to come over and ride at the Naples track with us and a few other tracks back then too. If you remember Pete, he used to build several tracks in Florida. Was still at it a few years ago. Until he had a track in Immocolee on the indian reservation where he showed them how to do things. Then the indians decided to cut out the middle man and build that huge track known now as the Seminole mx track.

I don't remember when my first race was but I think it was against some neighbor kid. We raced from the the mailboxes to our house with the mail. He had better shoes so I think he won.

Do you remember the Carmello's or Mudds. John Carmello had a Honda S90 that was fast. He could usually beat most of the 2strokes out there. He was just big boned so his bike worked harder. His bother Joe actually won the 50cc class at the first Elsinore grand prix on a suzuki 60.

Mine was at OCIR in 1975 on my brand new RM125 and the only race my Dad ever took me to. Bailed in practice and got run over and my tank got smashed...... I'll never forget my Dad's response. "You need to practice more".....LOL. My 2nd race was much better, it was at Osteen's cycle park in Pomona, got 10th overall, Holeshoted the 2nd moto and got my picture in Cycle news...My Mom took me to that one....... Some little kid won the 125 pro class on a yamaha..."Flyin Brian" Myerscough !!!
