wow didn't the honda weigh like 230 pounds last year? gaining 10 pounds is quite a feat if you ask me, all you people who say you want one are so silly, pretty sure we've been through this dual muffler thing before, the only thing good about this bike is that the new 500af's will look like this

I looked it up before.. Last years bike is a few pounds lighter.

2012 - Curb Weight 240 lbs (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel—ready to ride.)

2013 - Curb Weight*: 242.7 pounds
*Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and full tank of fuel—ready to ride.

Do not like the weight increase one bit, but it seems like it mostly comes from the exhaust and larger tank. The dual cans were dumb the first time around.

I also don't like that it sounds like they are willing to let the KXF be the king in the outright power category, but it sounds like they've made some gains.

Air fork seems like a neat idea, IF it can work properly for most applications.

Reserving judgment for now, but will definitely consider one.

New frame and swingarm, lighter subframe /airbox and air forks add up to a bike that is almost three pounds heavier?

Looks like it. I got the information from the official honda website + the 2013 specs from all the information posted here.

Hahaha. Exactly what I was thinking.

Nice looking bike. I find it hard to believe the twin exhaust thing is gonna be the hot set-up.

Hard to tell how everything else will work out - like a lot of people here I'm unconvinced by the twin exhaust system.

But I will say this.... that is one sick looking motorcycle! They've definitely at least got the looks right imo.

This

The forks are supposed to be 1.7lb lighter plus they lightened some plastics etc. How the hell does this bike weigh 2 lb. more?

Not gonna lie. That is the best looking bike I have ever seen. I will be selling my 2010 yz450f and getting one. I dunno what everyone else will think, but that is an amazing looking bike. I could do without the dual exhaust, but other than that.
Really? I think it is ugly as f**k. The number plates look retarded. The white plastic traveling from the rear fender all the way to the side panel is stupid looking.

On top of all that, they except people to pay for 2 aftermarket exhausts if they want to upgrade. So, $9k for a bike, and another $1k + to put exhaust on it. This is why I will stick with my 2002 CR250R, or buy a 2012 YZ250. If Honda was smart, they would at least release their 2-strokes so people could buy those, otherwise I might be jumping ship.

I’m not in the market to buy one but it is a beautiful looking bike. Best looking bike I’ve seen in years. Just wish it was all red. I really don’t understand the white ass end trend we have now. It would look better with all red plastic.

That being said the dual pipes is goofy looking as hell.

No hydraulic clutch again this year?

Still a 4 spring clutch?

Does the traditional oil seal in the fork hold the 30-35 lbs of air pressure in the outer chamber?
Instead of bleeding off the air after riding; do you put a gauge on top to keep in where you want?

six springs. separate chamber for the air so no, the standard seal doesn't contain the pressure.

I'm not liking the weight or the twin pipe. Everything else is cool.

At 242.7 lbs. with a full load of fuel (1.66 gallons) that has it creeping in with the heavyweights of the class??

Dual mufflers? Awww jeeez, not this s%#t again! Smile Couldn't they accomplish basically the same with a dual outlet can? Couldn't they also have upgraded to a ti/carbon setup (single with dual outlet) at the oem level for probably the same cost as the dual system and kept the weight down?
Newmann, I know it's in your nature to complain about everything related to modern motocross but no comment on the MSRP? Seems to me like Honda had their priorities in the right place by not allowing a complete overhaul to affect the selling price.

Wrong. I complain about the ever increasing weight of the 450's, the costs of the "up and coming" 250F class and the lack of 125's on the National level. Prices? Well, you have to admit they are high and eliminating people from the sport. But, it is what it is. If you pay attention to all my pissing and moaning, you'll realize it's pretty limited.Wink

And, I offered to help some guys out this weekend in Freestone and had an absolute blast. Especially when "my guys" were up front and one was even leading the 250F class in the first moto on a tight budget based team against the factory stars on their works unobtanium. I do love the sound of a high revving small bore, no disputing that.

so "new" must mean that it's heavier, more expensive to replace (dual's)
new doesn't always mean better, i would be VERY surprised if the price was the same like they want it to be

It's similar to last year's. These are the items listed as new on the spec sheet.

- Recalibrated fuel injection settings give the engine a bigger hit and more response in the low-end and midrange.

- New damping circuitry front and rear plus a new fork spring with a stiffer rate deliver better bump absorption, improved tracking and more precise handling.

- New-generation Dunlop Geomax MX51FA tires improve traction and feel, while the rear tire also shaves 0.9 pound of unsprung weight off the rear wheel assembly.

I dont buy into the air forks, the pressure will change in these as you go through the moto and also with a change in the ambiant temp, they tried these in the 70's and faded away, maybe I will be proven wrong. However I do like the Showa design of a one side spring and ther other damping.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought those plastics make that bike look bad.

The extra fuel capacity adds about a pound to the ready to ride weight.
