Jabroni actually lives in Haiti not Philly, so he speaks from experience. I would have to say the people who live in 3rd world countries would disagree with you about Florida or any other state being like a 3rd world country. Its insulting to them and the conditions they live in to make that comparison and shows how out of touch you are.

Overdrive, you live in Florida, you should know well what a 3rd world country looks like. Call me a "moran" all you want but the facts...

Call me a "moran" all you want but the facts are the facts, outside of Orlando and Southbeach, your state is no different than a 3rd world country. In fact, the huge desparity between your rich and poor makes Orlando and Southbeach all the more relevant when comparing Florida to a 3rd world country.

Shit, more than I can count.

5 or 6 off the top of my head that I can think of in just the last few years.

And if I count all the states in America then that number jumps up considerably. The rural southern states of America are poor as fuck. Florida is great but its poor areas look no different than any other 3rd world country in that region. Dont get me started on California. I love LA but Im not going to pretend that it's all Melrose Place.

Look, its not about how many youve been too. Its about how we mistakenly perceive our own countries superiority. I dont hate America or anything, Im simply not ignorant to the bullshit that goes on in our own backyard. And when Ive driven across our own country, the scenery looks no different than most comparable 3rd world places Ive been.

I dont expect you to particularly understand. Nobody is more high on themselves than the British. That's not meant as a insult to you, please dont take it personal. But when talking superiority complexes, your country takes the cake IMO.

I agree, I can't stand a lot of the bastards and Ive lived here most of my life, born in Ireland, but lived in England most my life.

Don't get me started on Jacksonville, Naples and Tampa. Those places you need an AK along with Hum V to make your way through. But atleast things are cheap being 3rd world an all, you can live off of $10 bucks for a year there.

Jabroni your quite entertaining...... Please keep going.
Your state has major drug issues, gang violence, major poverty issues, a massive gap between its rich and poor, and plenty of shanty huts.

But go ahead and talk up the nice spots. Florida is about 1% West Palm beach and 99% poor-as-fuck.

Since when is a AK a prerequisite for traveling thru a 3rd world country? Way to sensationalize your point. Youre losing this debate in a landslide when that is the best you can come up with.

I just finished a job up in Oakland. I wont lie and say I didn't see some wild things going on. I did and I am still laughing about them. I was never bothered, approached or felt in danger. The WalMart is however the best comedy club up there. Second only to Home Depot where guys are walking out of the building with inventory. Alarms going off - no one does anything but write license plates down.

People also need to understand you have ties to Philly. And, anyone who has been to the east coast knows how miserable that weather can make a person (I grew up in Bethlehem, just north of Philly). Aside from the Philly Cheesesteaks, I got no use for da place...lol.

I agree. Philly is a fucking shithole. I hate the place. Nothing but bad memories.

I love cheesesteaks though. It's very difficult to find an authentic cheesesteak outside of Philly.

But it aint the weather that's got me miserable or anything like that hahaha. I havent been to PA in about a year. Im currently very happy where I live.

People get too defensive about shit. I actually really like Florida. I like the culture, I like the food, hillbilly swamp festivals, Southbeach, it's a great place to visit and I came quite close to moving there a couple times in my life. Im just not into the whole glass-house-stone-throwing bit. Despite my affection for Florida I know its not without its faults, just like any place.

Ive yet been to a country or state that I could honestly say has a legitimate privilege to talk down on the rest of the world. There are some tropical places in the Caribean that would probably give that argument a solid run for its money. And Switzerland seems like damn near a perfect country but I'd be a fool to ignore the fact that they're main industry is banking and its likely that the banking complex is a major cause for most of the worlds problems/wars/etc.

Show me a truly sovereign state with kick ass weather, great food, a self sufficient economy, and a healthy, happy, and non-violent citizenship and then those people can bitch and moan that they should have gotten the GP over Mexico and then you wont see me playing devils advocate.

I was never big on Philly. Never stuck around long enough to really explore the place, actually. North Philly scared the shit out of me, at least the sections I went through did. Where are you at now? My girl and I are looking to buy a couple of vacation homes abroad. Taiwan is on our list as a possibility. One stateside possibility is the Keys. However, we just started looking (probably won't buy for another 8 years).

Anyway, back to the thread. I agree with Booby. I couldn't believe they actually planned a race in Mexico. That place is a nightmare, and it seems to be getting worse no matter how much legal money we throw at it. We really should legalize drugs and take away those drug cartels powers.

We did a couple of track days in Jennings FL. talk about a shit hole. We stayed a couple of miles north and that was even worse. Someone should call in an airstrike (lol) and don't even bring up Detroit.

it didnt cost GL or YS a penny, everything they do they get paid to do. You want a mexico race Tortelli? pay up, handsomely. Riders dont get paid by GL or YS, so no loss.
Teams dont get any transport, so fuck them to.

YS and GL get a fucking HUGE check and literally lay out NO money except a supposed coverage package. And knowing the intraweb figures, they are making a fucking killing on that also because the viewer has to pay to see it! oh, the tv package... hmmm, I have 500 channels on DTV, cant seem to find a single thing about the GP's... in the worlds largest advertising market.

say what you want but your not rolling up on 47 dead bodies piled up on a highway in the U.S. When was the last time 30 bodies turned up headless in the U.S. by a drug-lord?

I feel some here are very accurate in drawing the parallel with a 3rd world country violence wise.

random acts of violence vs. tourists is higher in mexico. mexico also seem very popular for people who want to off someone. they take them on vacation there and then plead innocent when they come up missing or found dead.

does mexico have nice places to visit or live...sure, every country does...but you can't tell me mexico is better than brazil or canada (as example).

also, you can't even remotely compare to the holding a major motocross event in U.S. vs. Mexico...We have done it every weekend for 30 years without someone laying a dead body on the driveway as a message...

Hit me up via PM and we can talk about your vacation home.

As for you comment on the planned race in Mexico. Im not surprised they had the event there. Im surprised they didnt have the place crawling with police like they do at the X-Games or they did at the recent F1 race in Bahrain. This thread is evidence enough that with enough police presence and positive PR spin, any place can be made to look safe to have a race and the masses will buy it hook line and sinker. If Youthstream is guilty of anything is that they did a horrible job at planning this event and handling its PR.

There are many dangerous areas all over the world, it's true. But I think the situation in Mexico is particularly scary because even the authorities themselves are potentially under threat. Even government officials are fair game. For instance I have no doubt that parts of LA are terrible but I would be surprised if the cops feel so threatened for their lives and the lives of their families to the point where they either can't do their job, or have to wear a ski mask to hide their identities if they do. These cartels are collectively more like an army or terrorist organisation. They are totally committed, almost totally fearless and with unlimited resources. A government would need, quite literally need an army to fight them now. It's a desperate situation.

It's unfortunate yet understandable why so many within the law enforcement end up taking the bribes. You have almost certain death in one hand, or a heap load of cash and the safety of your family in the other.....

Im gonna have to agree with jabroni on this one. I traveled to many, many countries that are considered " 3rd world " .. indonesia, thailand, malaysia, philippines, panama , nicaragua , costa rica, honduras, colombia, brazil .. all for adventure, riding, and poon hunting ( like single males travel to these countries for the scenery ) ..

Anyway ive been to pretty much all those countries seedy areas and never had a problem, not once..

I live in bermuda, one of the nicest countries in the world .. when i was 15 i worked at a gas station and got a gun pulled to my head at 3 in the afternoon .. When i was 22 i got a gun pulled to my head in tampa florida leaving a restaurant ..

People here things on the news and internet and say.. no way im going there with those animals.. not even experiencing the country 1st hand.. get out and travel, bottom line shit happens everywhere, it just so happens from my personal experiences that america is justas if not more dangerous than any where

There is a neighborhood right down the street from the Oakland Coliseum that is no different than what you just described. Police WILL most certainly be shot at if they enter the 'hood. They dont bother going there. And for almost a year, the police simply went on strike and refused to go to work in Oakland. And if you want more info on Oakland, go read the off-topic section of this site, their is plenty of great info on the occupy-oakland shit going on and that stuff rivals anything that goes on anywhere else. I have to call my friends in Oakland on a regular basis to check in on them and make sure they are ok. It's a very volatile situation and those people are already on the brink of snapping. That place could literally be on fire right now and the media would not report it.

We've had plenty of "desperate situations" here, they just dont get the same press.

Take the middle east for example, if you went by what the news told you then you'd think the entire middle east is nothing but snipers, constant car bombings, and Al Quida running around. I had a great talk about this subject the other day with an Israeli buddy of mine. Same thing with an Afgani friend of mine. They cant believe the way their countries are portrayed in the USA media. It's nothing like the way we are sold it is.

I know right! I had to get out my 9 the other morning and totally light up a leaf blower and a sidewalk trimmer. Boyz in the hood always roll hard, I couldn't hear my bass over the racket they were making. Dirty South I mean Down South knows we are rolling hard down here in 3rd world Florida...... lol

I accept that Oakland has terrible problems but one has to think that's more due to a lack of intervention, a lack of willpower from the authorities. I'm sure it's easier just ignore it - out of sight out of mind. But if America really wanted to walk into those areas and sort them out, then I have no doubt that they could do it. The police may be uncomfortable but President Obama or even those far lower down the order certainly need not worry about assassination from the "homies".

In Mexico they simply can't deal with the situation as a country, they are gradually losing day by day. There is no one there that's untouchable. In truth they need outside help from the U.S.

You are from Texas. I dont expect you to understand.

Keep waiving that flag blindly buddy.

Im not even going to bring up the Las Vegas SX race, and just how dangerous Vegas is at night. Anyone that lives there knows that once you go literally a block off the strip, youre rolling the dice in a whole 'nother fashion. Gunshots heard every nite. People (gangsters) shot on the weekly near the old strip. But lets conveniently ignore all that and continue to take a shit on Mexico.
....and you're from PA, so I know for fact you don't understand!!!!! Keep talking out of your ass as it only validates your lack of knowledge on this issue.

btw....the Mexican flag is the new state flag in Texas. I believe California has adopted it as well, with Arizona soon to follow.

Some of you guys are hilarious in the way you choose to view the world. The fact is, the majority of America looks like a 3rd world country.

I took a lot of flak for saying this earlier but I still stand by my stance. The crack epidemic of the 80s in America's ghettos was in fact a form of genocide. And just because its not reported on the local news, doesnt mean that dead bodies arent found on the regular in our own countries worst neighborhoods. But that shit doesnt make the news because its not white people who are dying.

And ya know, lets not forget where all the drugs in Mexico are headed. I mean, they wouldnt be fighting over territory if their wasnt such a huge demand here would they?

I know this post will all go over the heads of the majority of the rednecks here. So flame on all you want.

Next time youre at the X-Games, after the festivities at night, take a walk down skid row just a few blocks away from LA Live and then report back about just how great America is compared to Mexico.

Mexico, just like America, is as safe as you choose to make it. There is fucked up shit going on everywhere. That's the world we live in.
Mexico has one of the highest kidnap rates in the world. You simply have no idea what you are talking about.

A U.S. anti-kidnapping expert was abducted by gunmen in northern Mexico last week, a sign of just how bold this nation's kidnapping gangs have become.

I live in El Paso so I actually know how dangerous/horrible it is right now in Mexico. 1 out of 4 have left Juarez in the last 2 years...

Oh the irony....

Come on, Mexico is not like the US. We both have murder rates that are far too high, but comparing the militarized cartels of Mexico with the gangsters of LA is a little bit of a stretch. That being said, it's still an incredible country with a lot to offer, and I look forward to going back. You just need to be smart with where you go and what you do. For those of us who do actually leave the US, the world is a lot less scary than most think.

But lets conveniently ignore all that and continue to take a shit on Mexico.

btw....the Mexican flag is the new state flag in Texas. I believe California has adopted it as well, with Arizona soon to follow.
Really Jabroni?
In 2009 there was 1 murder per 20,000 U.S. inhabitants. When compared to Mexico’s current rate of 1 murder per 8,300 Mexican residents, an individual runs a greater risk of being violently murdered in Mexico than in the United States.

And there have been over 47,000 in the last 5 years as of Jan.

That's with 1/3 the population...Where are you getting your figures, exactly?

SEEMEFIRST, what figures are you referring too? I dont believe Ive posted any hard numbers.

My sentiments seem to be in line with anyone else who has traveled extensively outside of their home country. Notice how all the other foreigners in this thread seem to have the same sentiments as me? Meanwhile, the people who get their news from the American TV and are afraid to leave their home state are absolutely scared as fuck of the rest of the world.

And why do you guys seem to gloss over the fact that the cartels are fighting over the right to supply OUR COUNTRY with drugs? I mean shit, name one war or conflict that is going on in the world and ask yourself how it doesnt lead back one way or another to the benefit of the American/British empire? It's really hard to condemn these other places when we are far from perfect or without some form of influence on the situation. But that is another topic all-together. My posts are about the fact that we got no right to bitch about how dangerous Guadalajara is when in fact we hold races in some equally dangerous areas.

Shit in our own backyard simply doesnt get reported because of where it happens and what race of people they are happening too. Unless youve spent time in the ghetto, you just arent going to understand. There are places in Baltimore and Oakland that are absolute war zones. Dont get me started on Detroit. There are guns shots going on EVERY SINGLE NIGHT by the old strip in Vegas. Our media simply chooses to ignore it but meanwhile we portray Mexico as fucking Beirute at its worst. This race wasnt held anywhere near the violent border towns you Texans despise so much so lets compare apples to apples.

Compare the murder rate of Oakland to that of Guadalajara and tell me what you come up with. I'd say to give me some figures on Vegas too but I doubt we'd find anything accurate as that city doesnt want its dirty secrets being reported accurately, bad for business. I personally witnessed the way Vegas can protect its business interests in the way it covered up the Pacman Jones situation. There are actual video tapes of Pacman when he and his associate shot up that strip club and left a man paralyzed. Nobody ever saw those tapes because it would have been bad for business to throw a client like Pacman under the bus. So I dont expect much of Vegas' violence to be reported accurately.

Say anything you want but you cannot change the FACT that within blocks of our SX races in Vegas, Los Angeles, and Oakland, there are places no less safe than the rest of the world (with exception to South Africa as that place is in its own league when it comes to danger). Our own races are sometimes in places you wouldnt dare walk at night and in some cases, broad daylight. Im telling you because Ive witnessed it, not because I get my info from our fucked up media. I'll keep beating this drum til the end, and that is that we have no business casting judgment on the fact that this race was held in Guadalajara Mexico.

You just said that America was as bad as Mexico, and I just found some numbers that say it's not...By a lot.

I sent my kid to Camaroon for 6 weeks last summer, so I'm not on the list of being afraid to travel. That's 3rd world.

yes we have our fair share, but I haven't been hearing about 49 bodies piled up somewhere in Vegas, but we do get news about gunfire at all times of the day right across the border.

Im not sure where I actually said "America was as bad as Mexico" ... someone else quoted me and said that was what I was trying to say, but I never actually said that in a blanket context. Correct me if Im wrong. But thats all semantics anyways. I think you understand the points Ive tried to make.

Good on you for pushing your kid to travel. It's single handidly the most effective, cheap, and rewarding education experience I can imagine. I never knew how important it was until I lucked into traveling myself.
