Maybe the owner had a hard head. If the deal that Mxsports offered is so bad, then why do the other tracks not have a problem with it?

The problem was MXsports would only offer a one year deal and wanted major renovations to the facilities. I don't think a single year on the contract was enough to justify the expense of the renovations required. If they lost the national the following year, they probably would only have broken even for the one year they had on their contract.

Ask yourself if you would outlay the cash for an event like that with everything pointing towards only managing to break even when all is said and done. If MXsports had extended the contract for say three years they could have made money the second and third year to justify the expense.

Any time you're promoting and event that tales place outdoors, you're at the mercy of mother nature. People don't buy tickets until they know the weather will be good and if it rains you're going to see a massive drop off in attendance. You have to be very conservative when you're projecting numbers because the difference between a sunny day and a rainy one could mean hundreds of thousands in lost revenue.

I think Davey lost out the most on the deal though. From what I hear, he never got a dime from the promoters of the Pala Event.
They were asking for that for years and were always promised it would happen but races would come and go with very little done. That is how i understand it anyways. If gh would have done what was promise the hardball would have been returned to its bag

Somehow I don't white fences would work at Glen Helen...

Both sides had their faults. I do think it was more Glen Helens fault, but having the National at Glen Helen is in the best interest of the FANS.

Glen Helen was "for the people." They didn't give all the prime viewing areas to the sponsors.

No offense to the Elsinore people but it ain't no Glen Helen. I'll still go though.
I'll be at Elsinore too. I'm sure I will like certain things about it. I liked Pala and would have kept going although I Hated their parking!!! There were things I didn't like about Glen Helen too but overall it was truely a one of a kind track.

For what it's worth, the AMA sanctions the races. They don't choose where they're held.

For anyone interested in checking out Elsinore with a bunch of fast guys on it, they're doing a Nationals test session on Friday afternoon starting at 1:00. The main track will be closed to all but card-carrying National pros, though the vet track and mini tracks will be open to all riders. Might be a good time to check it out with fast guys on it before the National...or pick up a few autographs.

If you think having a Red Bull event at your facility is a sign things are in decline please stop operating heavy machinery until this condition passes.

I was out there on Saturday and it is mind boggling the amount of work going on on the REM side. I can only imagine how much money Red Bull is spending to build the temporary facility for this event. The real winners are the REM regulars who get a brand new track when Red Bull puts things back the way Frank and Myra want them.

Glen Helen has events going on almost every weekend of the year and so from a business perspective no one needs to be concerned.

On a personal level my heart goes out to Bud Feldkamp and his family on what they've endured the last few years.

I was really sad to see that it is no longer on the circuit. In my opinion it was one of the top 3 tracks along with Red Bud and Millville.
Well I'm 2 of 3, got to go to Red Bud last year and went to GH several times even went to the first GP there a few yrs ago. Will have to try Millville next.

I was watching TGO The Destroyers the other day with my 5yr old son and even he said "Man those are some big hills daddy!" Glen Helen's braking bump looked like sx whoops lol. A man's track no doubt

Outdoors are slowly turning into high speed outdoor SX. That's why tracks like Freestone and Pala can exist at all. The money men could care less if the tracks have hills or not.

You know I do my fair share and then some of Bubba bashing, but I bet RC loved having him to battle with. Those two were a lot of fun to watch outdoors I will admit.

I think GH should get two nationals.

The AMA has zero decision on what tracks are being selected, it is MX Sports call on which tracks they work with.

Big hills indeed.

Nice shot!

Windham stepped off once at the bottom four or five years ago when he hit a braking bump the size of a VW...okay not that big but it was bigger than a bread basket for sure.

I've only been to two national tracks. GH and Washougal. GH certainly isn't as scenic, but it was easily as nice a facility or better than Washougal. I wonder how GH stacks up against the facilities at other tracks. Was it a matter of trying to get Bud to raise the bar for the other tracks? Because in my experience, there was definitely nothing lacking at Bud's place that I saw elsewhere.

The track itself is just epic compared to many other tracks on the national circuit, so it's a shame they couldn't do more to keep it, because I think the series lost a great track when they switched to the pala parking lot. I hear the pissing contest cost Davey a bundle too. Something about him almost getting arrested trying to stop a brinks truck that was leaving with all his cash when the guys at Pala stiffed him on the promoters fees. I doubt Bud ever pulled a fast one on the series promoters like that. Sounds like Davey got a free walk to first when his hardball came back and hit him.

It seems to me like it's all a bunch of politics and posturing, and the fans lose out again. Hopefully Elsinore is better for the fans, but I doubt you'll be able to find a spot to see that much of the track there compared to a place like GH, Unadilla or Red Bud. The natural viewing areas at those tracks are a natural part of the facilities that flatter tracks simply can't duplicate. I wonder if they take that into consideration.

Something had to be broken in that relationship, because Bud certainly never seems to one to shy away from making the necessary changes to his facilities. There were some major changes for the GP and the RedBull event is certainly requiring some major efforts. Then you look at the investment he's made for the truck track and other stuff and I can't seem to figure out why they yanked the national or wouldn't extend the contract to offer incentive to get the changes made. It would be pretty easy to write a rider into the contract that paid less to the track if certain changes weren't made to the facilities.

You guys can debate the ins and outs on why the GH/MX Sports train went off the track but does it really matter at this point?

Looking forward all I can say is you'd be surprised if you knew what was going on behind the scenes right now but if I said more I'd have to kill you.

Am I the only one that liked Pala? And yes, I formed my own opinion from being there in person.
Ok, it's no Glen Helen, but it ain't no supercross either.

Pala looked great on tv. Hope Elsinore looks even better.

All I want is bikes and dirt, and, Glen Helen GP on speed.

I have raced both Lake Elsinore and Glen Helen this year and while I know that a National built track is different than the local race track. Lake Elsinore has quite a ways to go to be on the level of Glen Helen.
