There's no gears on the bike, and it doesn't bog.it would be easier for deaf people.

That video was so sick, totally confirms to me that lectric bikes are the way of the future... Pitty all his competition were goons.. would like to see 2 competent riders against each other with helmet cams, one on an electric, one on a regulation patrol engine

BRD out of san fran. Has a electric bike putting out same hp as a 250f. They have a video at motocross action. Looks killer. Like the KTM.

To the original topic:

This track is in my county. I don't see the guy making a profit.

I see the good in the idea, but I actually think it hurts the ability to open or keep open a real track with real MX bikes.

Local Pro went up and took a fully charged bike to dead in twenty minutes.

If he had the scratch, he should have some electric bikes there to rent. I can't see any track relying on revenue from the electric bike crowd to operate at this point.
It might hurt regular tracks. But they irritate anybody withing earshot anyhow. Nothing changes that.

That's exactly how he operates. He has about 12 rentals I think, and is a dealer for Zero.

If anyone decides to check it out. There is plenty more to see. We have over 250 waterfalls in the county. Between National Forest and multiple State Parks over 50% of the county is government land. (yet still not a single public trial)
It is bicycle heaven though, both mountain bikes and road bikes. Check out the link and watch the aerial video on the front page. This is God's country.

My only concern with electric bikes is the cost of replacing the batteries if they should go bad. From what I've read they aren't cheap.

It does look like they go bad after a while, but not unusable. Here is the latest development in battery tech

Only thing holding me from buying one is pricepoint and length of charge use. i.e. value.
When the charge lasts longer and they come down to competitive prices, I am adding one to the garage.

According to an article in dirt rider "Replacement battery costs a fierce $2950 (plus shipping)." But I'm sure that cost would become lower over time.

For a 2 ½ hour drive and $35.00/hr. for 2-3 hours, I'm in. I think that's a relative and reasonable price of admission just to experience something very different in off-road...just sent an email to my riding buddies to propose the road trip.

He needs to expand his horizons when the other brands come out with bikes and offer those for rent too. I'm not a big fan of the Zero bikes but would love to throw a leg over a BRD Redshift or a KTM Eride


And in regards to the Ebikes in the sport... I'm just wondering how soon we will see the AMA re-write the rules to include them, but give them some sort of advantage like they did with 4strokes and displacement. They'd probably have to rate them by horsepower / KW/hr or Battery voltage or something, but I could easily see them becoming advantageous as the technology develops and the manufacturers run with it, trying to exploit the rule like they did with 4strokes.

Then within the span of 2 decades we will have seen the sport transition from 2strokes to 4strokes to Ebikes

Cool idea. As far as the future of the sport? I'm not entirely sold on it. No one really knows if the electric thing will take off completely. Electric cars have become more common place, but thay aren't quite there. Electric MX bikes have a long way to go to equal the performance of the gas bikes now. And of course, the AMA will have to be abolished before they see pro action.

the only real hurdle to electric bikes is the battery. in the hands of someone pushing it, you might get 25 to 30 minutes on a 4 to 12 hour charge (depends on battery type, how "drained" it was and how hot it was when you started recharging- thermal loss is a killer on rechargable batteries!) its the same problem they have with electric cars. You guys realise there hasnt been a significant advance in batttery developement in the better part of 40 years right?

The new Envia battery could be considered a significant improvement. I think it has nearly 4x the energy density of the currently used batteries. I know what you mean though, its gonna take ages to get significantly better than that.

Thanks for pointing this out. The riding spot isn't too far from where I'm at. I've been trying to find a place to ride during the week that is within an hour drive...and it happens to be an all electric bike track.

If you start tuning electric bikes now...you could become the Mitch Payton of electric bikes.

A bicycle has always a advantage if you are riding trails. Doesn't matter if it is a electric bicycle or a normal mountain bike.
