Totally sucks. It went from "this will be the best season ever" to what may be a yawner. Who could have ever predicted the amount of carnage this year???

Umm, any fan who has watched SX the last 20 years? That's the problem with this sport. Too many stars hit the IR.

oh come on, in a given year we have a 5 or 6 injuries to riders who are main event regulars. You are going to sit there and say that it is "a normal year" to have 4 out of the top 5 guys out? Are you kidding me.

I would have to agree, that is unless Villopoto has some horrible luck.

How can it suck? The fastest, most consistent guy wore down the competition.

That is pretty much true. The two ways to win in pretty much any race/athletic competition is capitalize on your opponents mistakes and suffer longer. RV has done both this year.

Because, as fans, we don't get to see good racing. We get it, you like RV, but not all of us want to see him cruise around with a 100 point lead in the series.

I thought this was obvious enough without stating it, but apparently the RV fans have their blinders on tonight.

Yawner? To say that, you're totally discounting everything that happened in the first half of the season.

Exactly.

I am a huge RV fan, but I want a title fight down to the wire.

Not a six race cruise to the title.

This year it’s been a war of attrition. The rider who survives healthy wins. I guess it’s always been that way, but this year seems far worse. No question Villopoto is the fastest and most consistent guy and has been all season though. No matter if his competitors are dropping like flies or not.

When was the last time the series came down to the wire? The last I can recollect is RC and Reed in 2003. Before that? MC when he switched to Suzuki.

Villipodium is clearly at another level, like the past champions before him. Riders are being injured trying to run his pace. While I hate to see injuries, I'm also not a fan of winners with 20+ second leads.

2006 JS, RC and Reed were separated by two points.

RV's not taking it for granted. But the math is this...

Ryan currently has a 54-point lead. But that's over a currently inactive Ryan Dungey, so his closest active pursuer (at least we expect he'll be at the next race) is James Stewart who's 69 points back. If he doesn't make it to Toronto, then the closest active guy would be Davi Millsaps, at -95. That's nearly a four race lead. So then you'd be looking at a race or two before he wraps it up, not six races.

Ah, yes, memory like many other things attributed to age, are failing me.

The reason I remember the 2003 season so well, was I vividly remember Reed taking out RC right before the finish at the SLCSX. Heated words exchanged at the podium and RC still simmering at the press conference.

Sorry, just took a little trip down memory lane.

Don't know, I asked that question a while ago. From what I can gather is James had a bit of a get off, and there was a pile up, don't know if it was in a heat or the main....... Must be a secret no one wants to tell.

Stewart spun out and came up short. Windham jumped in a side of him and they both went down then a couple more riders slammed in to Stewart who was on a ground. This was right after first turn on a first double. Stewart was fuzzy and they decided to sit it out.

Pirelli-itis. Again. I never saw a guy lose traction on jump faces and lips so often as Stewart has this season. Maybe it's because JGR keeps amping up the engine looking for starts, but for whatever reason, his bike won't go straight when the track goes straight, and it's always a case of the back end passing the front end.

Wouldn't it be crazy if Villo waded up in one of the next two races, and Millsaps brought home the title for JGR! Whistling

Here's a thought (and I know it's only a consolation price), if RD could come back in the next couple weeks, he could still conceivably get second in the series (he's still second in the points now. I'm an old fart and came back from a collarbone in a month, and I didn't get plated. I think RV came back in 3 weeks or so when he broke his. I understand all injuries are different, but it would be cool to see RD make it back to second.

the fact that RV is not on another level is the story of the year. he's had a challenge from CR,RD and JS this year. he's done well but to say he's on another level like MC was for years is kinda wacky. i think thats why the injuries make it such a disappointment.

Yeah, but it would definitely be un-cool if he broke it again, did a lot more damage and couldn't ride the outdoors.

Well, I'd like to see me win the lottery, but reality is that isn't how it works.

We created a sport (riders are a part of this) that combines the best athletic ability, race intelligence, and the most trecherous conditions, which is the way we like it. Naturally, and unfortunately, this comes with exposure to injury. Survival has become (and actually has been that way for a long time) key to winning championships.

No, I don't want to see anybody hurt. Heck, I'm racing a local series this year, there's a race on my 50th birthday in October, nothing more I'd like to ride it, but I understand there's a chance I might be sitting out with injury. Won't stop me from riding the series, though.

Would you rather cut back the tracks or bikes to make it safer? That's the only realistic option. Better cut out the whoops. People get hurt in those. Better cut out rhythm sections. Doubles and Triples are a no-no. Guess what...we just created Nascar.

Yeah, I'd love to see everyone healthy and a four way rider decider at Las Vegas. Reality is that isn't likely to happen. And no, I'm not an RV fan. I'm a fan of the guy who puts together the package to win the championship. He, whoever that is, has made the season worth watching.

Oh, and one slip up from Villo and this season could turn around. Ya' never know.
