The reason I said " Illnes " because I felt it wasn't my place to say why he was in a coma . He was a good guy and I have some moto bros that were very close to him and are hurting .. so let's just keep Phil's daughter and familiy and friends in our thoughts

thanks

Wish his family and friends the best. I just cannot understand how making a personal decision to put something into your body without a gun held to your head is a "illness" or a "disease". Were I come from we call that weakness. God Speed Phil.
Sort of like the weakness that prevented you from avoiding the submit button.

RIP Phil. Damn I wouldn't recodnize him in person if i ever saw him but I heard his name a bunch it seems. Its sad reading the interview on MXA he had. Apparently he was getting back into racing in 2006. It says Bryan Friday in the pic caption... Is that you friday?

Thanks for that Bill. You have any cool stories about him you care to share?
Bercy 97 Phil and I are sitting in the stands with our HoT letterman jackets on. This Frenchman who spoke no English started "talking" to us and it was apparent he liked the jackets.

Phil says "Rock...give the guy your jacket." and I'm like "what!" Phil said "I've got a brand new one for you back in our room so just give the guy your jacket.' I did and the guy was PUMPED.

This generosity as at the core of Phil Alderton. Generous to a fault comes to mind and there were many hanger ons that were always there when times were good to take whatever they could from him...jerseys, tickets to races, parts you name it. Phil loved to pick up the check for a large party because "that's what the King would have done."

Phil was a huge Elvis fan and Nikki and he named their daughter Presley. She just turned 13 in January and is quite the wiz kid at school. A mutual friend is working on setting up a educational trust for her. Will keep you posted.

I took this shot which was later used in A day in the life of a motocrosser that Phil penned about an extremely hot visit we had to REM.

Yep that's Bryan Friday on the 43. Bryan is originally from Ohio too.

I think Flipper would like to remembered as a gentleman that loved his motocross, Springsteen, Elvis and his fellow man.

It is a damn shame the demons took control, I recall a cool dude that was more into motocross than most of us ever

could be. RIP PHIL.

* And Phil was a very, very talented motocross rider, form kid to vet status.

* Him pulling up to an Ohio race in an Acura NSX ? High 5 !

The Fifth Dragon. He truly dug all that.

Phil and I had a lot of Great Racing stories together back in the 70's & 80's... I had the Honor to be the parts Manager at American Suzuki in Troy Ohio, in that day. Then in 1984 Phil Marshall the owner at the time picked up Honda and then we started Honda of Troy... I was Honored to be the first Honda of Troy Pro rider! The rest is history now... Phil took it to a New level in the Awesome sport of motocross... R.I.P. we will miss You my friend, Jeff Cottrell National #7 Praying 4 your family & other friends.

Very sorry to have heard this. Lost my youngest sister in the same sort of way. The sense of helplessness watching it unfold is crushing.

Rock and his family / friends, my thoughts and prayers in your time of sorrow. I only hope that when my time comes I have those that can speak well of me and have been there, through the good and the bad. That is a real bud in my book.

I've got a 1980 390CR Husky with Phil Alderton's name on the original bill of sale. I remember the Lewis family of Lewis Husky Barn in Perrysburg always spoke fondly of him as a racer and a Husky dealer back in the early 1980's.

R.I.P. Moto Brother - thanks for all you gave the sport. May God's blessings be upon your family and friends in this sad time.

Then you knew Jerry Fogel?

I remember Phil on his Husky at DMC. Winning machine he was in 1978...

Sure do! He is the reason I started riding in the first place. When I was about 10 years old he was riding for Husqvarna. Phil and all the guys used to practice at the Jackson sand pit by my house. I would hear them riding up there so I would go up there to just watch them for hours on end. It was there that I got to know the whole gang that he hung out and rode with. Guys like Scott Paul, Mean Steve Gorden, Mark (The Hulk) Shaft, and Matt Duffy. I learned more than I can say about motocross from this awesome bunch of guys! Years later when I started racing he always offered me suport through any shop he was running at the time. If I broke anything on my bike he would even pull the parts off a new bike on the floor if need be just to get me back up racing. Not to many shops would do that just for a average racer but he was a true racer and totally love the sport. I gotta admit that I was a real honer to have known him. I'm sure that we will ride together again one day.

Real bummer. Just watched a couple of the opening rounds of the supercross sitting next to him on my couch. RIP Phil.
