He landed right on his head and neck and looked to be out for a few seconds.

I thought they made you sit out if this happens ? also that bike is a POS , wtf pulling it around trying to start it.

it's a death trap suicide rap.

I thought the same thing. He laid on the track and didn't move for about a minute or so - that usually implies a concussion, because any rider's natural instinct is to get the hell off the track if he crashes. Any time a rider doesn't move to get off the track for a long time, then gets up and walks away, you have to assume he got his bell rung pretty hard. You'd think the Asterisk guys would have made him come in for an examination before the LCQ, but Erin Bates said Mookie didn't go to the Asterisk truck. Strange.

No he seemed to put his words together pretty good for Erin. BUT if my kid laid in the middle of the track like that I'd put a foot in his ass and not let him back on the bike for the weekend.

Honestly he didn't have that dazed look in his eyes and didn't pause when speaking. Not to say a CT might show something different this morning. Which is something else I'd do after an incident like that.

Just because he can answer questions immediatly afterwards doesnt mean he doesnt have one. Did you see the way he walked away from Erin? He should have been sent to the medical truck immediatly, and it should be mandatory for every rider. If the rider is cleared to continue, then he can line up. No clearance, no race! With a concussion you are a danger to yourself, and the others on the track.Concussions are not something to take lightly

Doesn't matter the brand, if you have to tow it around in the parking lot to get it started something is not right.

Pretty tough kid to get up from that and make it to the line for the lCQ.

I thought it took the Asterics crew a little long to get to him, especially since he was laying in one of the most dangerous, high speed, sections of the track. I thought they had a mule so they could get around the track in a hurry?

Although, in their defense... they were quite busy last night.

lol....... guess the way for riders to deal with an apparent concussion is to not go to the Asterisk rig..... noted.

What did he say on tv last night? I think it was (I can't remember what I was doing or I can't remember where I was going. Something like that. Not to mention the staggering. Could not believe they let him back out there.

I would think being checked out by the Asterisk crew would be mandatory after a crash like that.

I was quite surprised he did that long walk all by himself - except for Erin & her camera person that is. No team members with him or anything.

Just like it is mandatory for riders to roll the triple when the lights are flashing?

The AMA uses the word 'mandatory' loosely, all we need is more ways for them to break their own rules.

No concussion but he may have messed something up on the bike that got by his mechanic obviously. You would have to be a total fucken idiot to think the KTM250 is a not on par with the best bikes on the gate. Ask Roczen or the other 7 ktm riders in the class.

Sounds like a blessing in disguize...or maybe the team left tbe plug wire off so mookie couldn't ride it for his own protection.
Then again does a ktm really need to be sabotaged to not make the gate? Lol...what was the issue with scooter btw?

Sorry to disagree with a fellow Canuck, but just because he lined up for the LCQ doesn't mean he didn't have a concussion. Further, if he did, and went out there and caused a crash because if it and hurt someone else in the process, the shit hits the fan, big time, especially in the USA. It should be mandatory for a visit to the Asterisk rig after a fall like that. It was a brutal crash I think we would all agree that he was lucky to get up and walk away. We also have to consider the whole "second impact" event involved in concussions which can really devastate someone for a long time.

Malcom is obviously a tough hombre, no doubt about it.
2/26/2012 10:43am
If Malcolm doesn't have a concussion from that impact, it is because he doesn't have a brain in his head. Concussions, and even a suspected concussion is not something to take lightly.Even when you go to a hospital, and you're cleared you are still told to be watched. Especially the first night. I strongly believe Malcolm should not have been allowed to take a gate in the lcq. I have seen where track staff have allowed racers to continue after an impact to the head, and later have seen the same rider in a later interveiw admit that he shouldn't have been allowed to ride.

Well, this is 30 years later, and alot more is now known about a brain injury which is referred to as a concussion. 30 years ago, they knew fuggall, and attributed it to a headache. Once someone is subjected to a severe concussion, it opens your eyes to them.
