i have no idea how to work on washing machines so im hoping a few of you guys may have some insight. my machine is about 3 years old. over the past month its started to seriously walk and shake the house. i reinforced the floor several years ago so this issue is relatively new. it doesnt seem to matter how small or large the load is, once it starts to spin dry, its all out of shape. is there something in the bottom of the basket i need to change? any ideas? and my wifes been the only one doing laundry and i dont want to point fingers at her yet...

edit: ive leveled the feet already and done everything ive found on the inner-web-nets...so im at a loss

thanks..

ive stopped the cycle and reloaded multiple times and it keeps shaking. ive even loaded the machine the way i use to do it when i did laundry. i just put in a load of nothing but socks and t-shirts and in the spin cycle it sounded like it was going to vibrate through the wall.

ill keep messing with and see....

You should run a full cycle with the machine empty. If the shaking stops, then your loading it unevenly.

If it doesn't help the problem, then check the adjustable pegs under the machine adjust them until the machine is level, if that does not help, then the problem is internal, first check the mounting brackets for the motor anything loose/broken, if so, tighten/replace brackets. If everything is ok, then you have to remove the top panel of the machine. The way it works is there is a tub inside a tub. There is the tub that spins on the bearing the " the active tub" (the one the clothes go in obviously) and around that tub is a stationary tub, between the two are what they call "snubs" these are either rubber wheels, bushings or on cheaper models just a rubber boot that works as a shock absorber , and keeps the movement of the the active tub within its axis. If a wheel is broken, or a bushing/boot is torn or broken then there is your problem.

I hope this helps.

its a maytag. not sure of the model. i ran it with only water and on the spin cycle i held the door open and watched the basket. the basket was rocking inside the well back and forth. is that inner basket supposed to have any kind of give that would make it do that? its actually about 5 years old but i was out of town for about 2 years so it just sat with no use. i would think (hope) that id get at least 10 years out of it. but i dont know this machinery that well.

Does maytag have a tech support number?, your model# and serial number should be on your invoice.

Sounds like maybe one of the stabilizer springs is broke. They have srings, and some have little dampner shocks that keep them from doing the funky chicken. Maybe one has come apart.

I had the same problem with mine. Every time it went to spin cycle it almost shook the house down. I read the instructions (i guess I should have done that first). Mine had a shipping rod inserted through the bottom of the entire machine. It keeps the basket stationary during shipping. I removed it and the machine works perfect.

I have a maytag and this happened to mine. I did some searching online. It was the clutch. I took it all apart and had to regrease the bearings. It's been 3 years, and it still works perfect.

Springs, rods, clutches...shouldnt this be in the tech forum?

Its my theory/plan to never buy another washing machine/dryer or lawn mower. Thats play money $$$ being sucked away for utilitarian needs.

If your washing machine is not working properly, get a divorce and marry a new one.

Hell yeah man....priorities.

You can always go to the laundromat, can't just grab a bike somewhere for $2.50 a pop.

Don't buy a front loader. I hate mine. It came with the house. You can't even leave the door closed or It gets all mildewed. Now something I wrong with it and it won't finish the cycle. I am going to move my maytag basic machine up here today. It was 500 5 yeas ago and it cleans the clothes way better than this water saver front loader anyway.
