Outdoor championship........check
SX Chamionship .....check (2 of em)
Start and operate you're own Team with great success..........check
Promote and win you're very own races series.........check

Lots of guys have done the team manager/mentor thing. A few guys have had the balls to spend their own $ and start a team. But I challenge you to find a racer that has done all of these things with this level of success.

Racer? No - definitely not the most successful racer.

Smartest athlete in our sport? Probably so.

the way Chad has ran his team has been amazing, and he is as competitive as ever,

but when you call him the most successfull, you have to remeber RC (and a heap of others) both never ran out of offers so did not have to start a team, Also MC started his own team,

I think Chads plan to keep the team going after he has finished riding will be the true test, there has been very few long term teams out there, Pro Circuit is the obvious one, but alot of others have been and gone

Whatever you say the guy is building a legacy very few will ever come close to achieving. And it can't be overstated that he did it from his own grit, will and determination without the ongoing huge family support system most racers have the entire career. He and Ellie are truly an inspiration.

This is certainly no "flame", but I think it takes more than one complete season to call his team a "great success" in terms of longevity. I look forward to the team signing additional riders, bringing more sponsors in the picture, titles, and being able thrive once he hangs up his boots. I need 5 years minimum to do that.

I'm a big Reed fan and I believe he can do it with time.

Transmoto did an interview with the manager of the Carlton Dry Thor Honda team in Australia. he hung out with reed at 2 of the supercross' this year and apparently reed is keen to help the team in Australia out. will be good to see him bring his level of expertise and resources to the aussie scene

Well it makes complete sense to put 3 guys with 5 titles or less ahead of guys with more than that. It's all about wins anyway, who cares about titles? Maybe MX did start after 1990.

Reed's the real deal....like we all know. I'm curious what he's going to do with RV. Take out move? I guess we'll see maybe tomorrow night.

It is tough to put the word "ever" after any one racer, well RC just may be the exception when you look at the record books.

But no one can "ever" take anything away from what Chad has accomplished. Kind of a trip, my best friend, my older bro and i were just talking about this subject and Chad this morning.

Remember when his bike broke leading a national moto, the camera was on him walking off the track and you heard him say, "get me out of this contract Bob!" He was not a happy camper back then, and look at him now! Prob one of the coolest guys out there, and so happy on and off the track. I dig how they (He and Ellie) share pics of Tate growing up and stuff, they have a rad little family unit gong on!

He is a righteous dude! Cool

One of my all time fav pics:

RC, Everts then who knows... Reedy is awesome and is probably my favourite rider right now, but theyre are a lot of guys who have accomplished an equal amount as him and RC is obviously the most succesful, but Chad has a lot to his name.

chad reed is probably one of my top riders of all time. been watching his career since he was riding for jan degroot kawasaki. now , i will say this, i wasn't a big fan, ( because he beat gordan crockard to 2nd place in the world champs) but i always loved the way he rode. they way the guy has raced and beat (not all the time mind) the worlds best. 1 generation later and he's running his own team with a shot of the most prestigious title in the mx/sx calender. i hope his team goes from strength to strength, and after he does hang up his boots, he has a rider like dean wilson, tomac, barcia, to keep the 22 motorsports team at the front of this sport.
there's a lot of young guys could learn alot from reed and his attitude to the sport. lets hope team 22 goes on for a long time.

title should read "one of the most successfull racers".

Guys are right, not the most winning, but hes one of the most successfull. His career longevity is outstanding and he's doing very well out of it, in for so long and not just riding around for a paycheck.

For me it started in the 80's but I would still rank these 5 ahead of anyone from the 80's. Just my opinion. Carmichael, most wins and championships. Mcgrath, most SX wins and SX championships. Stewart, Mr. 24-0 and Reed, 3 championships each and several wins even though having to race against the GOAT and each other most of their careers. Villopoto, most successful season in SX/MX history and still really young and only getting better. I expect when it's all said and done Villopoto will move up to 2nd on best ever list behind GOAT.

How do you put JS7 ahead of Reed? JS7 stayed down 2 more years in lites where as Reed went after one year. Honestly, he didn't want to even ride lites that year. Reed has been on the podium in SX at a percent higher than 80% for his whole career. Also, how many SX races has he missed? The guy passed MC for career podiums all time. 72 wins is non sense but 109+ podiums is crazy especially at the rate he did it at. I think JS7 and Reed kept each other from passing RC up on the SX wins list and they are both great racers but I would take Reed over JS7 anyday.

Pretty sure Rick Johnson should be in the top 5 and maybe Hannah too........we have more races in a season than they did back then...Hannah,Johnson & Ward too would have more race wins had they had 17 races in a year instead of 10 or 12 !!! something to think about.

Seriously Stewart, let me guess you think one hit wonder bands are the best as well.

So you kicked Decoster in the balls.

Knocked Bailey out of his chair.

I'll agree agree with RC and MC being up there, Stewart great 15th place finish for being number three on your list, I'll put Dungey over him.

Reed is up there, the guy got honored by the Australian government( mean while JS7 gets bailed out of jail).

1&2.)RC/MC(tie)
3.)Decoster
4.)Reed
5.) Bailey

You really put those last three guys ahead of Wardy and Johnson? Villopoto doesn't have enough time in the big class to be on the list and I would not call his season the most successful in history...what about Bayle in 1991 or RC in 2005(and other years)? Stewart and reed are in the top ten, but some have their championships were against depleted fields. Not trying to take anything away from 24-0, but go to the Racer X Vault and look at the other guys in the top 10...not an MX championship in the group. Ward and Johnson competed against each other and other greats like Bailey, Stanton, Glover, O'Mara, Hannah and Bradshaw and they have both found success in other racing (Ward in IRL(Indy 500 ROY) and Supermoto and Johnson in Offroad Trucks). Therefore they definitely deserve to be in the most successful top 5 imo. Plus there is Hannah and Decoster and multiple European Champs to consider.

As one of the biggest Reed supporters on this board since he came here in 02 it doesn't matter where he falls on any list, he's done good and the masses finally acknowledge it. What up Lenny, oh that's right.

Agreed. He may not be the most successful on the track, but off, I think his business savvy is second to none among other racers.

man i hope we dont hear any more about RV fanboys after this. Reed has his own crew of fanboys alive and well.

Add up all the points he has scored since 2003 and he's probably got the most points out of anyone out there right now. To me that is really impressive.

sorry but stewart shouldn't be higher than reed.

Stewart has stayed in his own country - Chad left aus at 16 on his won for the gp's
Chad had to work alot harder to get into the ama, james was always going to get a ride there (not dissing his ability, but the yanks have alot better opportunitys and chances to make it.
Chad has been more consistent and a more reliable racer, james has showed brillance on many occasions but has never lived up to what was expected of him, as many said he would be the man to dethrown RC and dominate. While james has done well for himself, I don't think many people would believe you if you told them that he would only win 2 sx and 1 mx champs after this many years in the big boy class.

That was a tough one for me too. I'm a Reed fan and don't care for James but I gave him the nod based on his perfect 24-0 motocross season.
