I too am in the market, and just missed a deal a few weeks back where someone on here posted link to some Shoei helmets that BTO was selling for $220!!! I checked the site and within 24 hours they were all gone.

While searching the other day, I ran across some UFO helmets that look pretty sharp. They're designed to work with neck braces and have a really sweet look to them.

Has anyone tried these? They're in the $400+ price range, so my first thought is they are a competitor of Shoei.

I was always a long time user of mid-range helmets (the most expensive I ever bought was a $350 troy lee.) I always wanted a Shoei, but could never bring myself to pay MSRP for one. I finally got lucky and caught a brand new one on Ebay for $415.

I can now say I will never go back to a lesser helmet and couldn't see myself wearing anything but a shoei. The fit is amazing and seems to form-fit to every detail of your head. I think this is because of how plush and comfortable the inside liner is. The airflow is really good even on hot summer days. It is very light and does not tire my head like some heavier helmets have done to me in the past. The inner liner is easily removed and even has an emergency removal strap in case of head trauma. Everything about the helmet is top notch. This is one case where you will not regret a penny spent on a Shoei.

How long has UFO been making helmets?

Shoei and Arai have over 50 years of experience making helmets.

e-mail sent to bronson. thanks! I am in a toss up between the solid white shoei and the pearl, red white and blue looking Bell. I have been searching the interwebs for deals and it looks like i may just have to wait it out and be patient on ebay....I know the Troy Lee's fit me well but their recent designs just are not tickling my fancy....We will see what comes up

Personally I have used Bell's for quite awhile, but they also fit the best to. Go with what fitt's the best so you get the best protection. If you are willing to spend for a MOTO0-9 a Shoei, isn't that mush more in the grand scheme of things.

Anyone know how the Bell Moto 8 fits compared to The Shoei as far as size goes?
I tried on a Bell Moto 8 quite awhile ago, didn't fit my head. I have a Shoei head and wear one. I wear a Large, teh Bell had pressure spots.
Your avatar is same as my first avatar here, only in mine was in B&W, nice.

I thought I wanted a Moto 8 because of all the deals around and wanted either a TLD, Shoei, Bell or Arai, but HATED the Bell once I tried it on. The TLD has much better attention to detail and the fit for me was very comfortable. I put it up there with the Shoei's i've had before. The Troy Lee you already have is great; wouldn't be afraid to just get another.
I had a Moto 8 and I will say the Moto 9 fits NOTHING like the 8 though. My new Moto 9 fits very similarly to the TLD SE3's I have had.

AGV!! I was a long time lover of bell's, then went to arai for a little and I just got my first agv and wow. It's incredibly light and fits better as good if not better than my arai. Plus I like AGV's graphics this year.
Love my new AGV, foumd a great deal on ebay. Awesome helmet.

You definitely need to figure out what fits your head the best, but I've been wearing the Bell Moto-9 since they came out and I really love it. Very comfortable, all the right ratings, and quality is top notch. It also has some really cool features like magnetically retained cheek pads. Not only do they come out easy for washing, but they can be pulled out while the helmet is on for easier helmet removal if a neck injury is suspected. The magnet at the end of the strap to keep it from bouncing around is another cool idea. Can't believe nobody thought of that one.

In the mood for a new brain bucket, been using a Troy Lee for sometime and I love it....but their new designs are kind of fugly to me. I have been eyeing up the Bell moto 9, shoei (big time bucks though), one industries, or maybe an Arai. What do you guys like as far as fit and function go? I do not have much of an oppurtunity to try different helmets so i wanted to hear some different brand opinions.
I think that priority number one is fitment. I have wanted certain helmets over the years because of the look they have but then found that they just don't fit my melon correctly. So for the most part I have found the Fox brand and the Thor branded helmets are just right for me. I think once you get into a certain price range all the helmets are probably pretty equal at the job they will do protecting you.

Gotta go with the Bell, our guys Kyle Summers and Ross Neeley say they are the best helmets they've ever worn and they've tried them all.

For me nothing compares to a Shoei. I've had a VFX-R back in the day and had two VFX-Ws more recently. I've got a Fox V3 right now, but it isn't at the same level as a Shoei in my opinion. Going back to a Shoei the next time BTO has a sale. One thing I definitely believe in is seasonal helmet changes. Obviously you know if you took a really heavy hit, got knocked the F out, etc, but I bump my head every now and again and for me it's hard to tell what constitutes a major hit. Whatever you go with don't buy something that you fall in love with so much or paid so much for that you are still gonna be rocking it 3 years from now. The foam deteriorates with time and environmental conditions as well as blunt force. In my opinion a $250 helmet every season beats a $500 helmet that you've lawn darted in a half dozen times.

i have been on the market for a helmet since november. i have had an arai a one trooper and a bell moto 8. love the bell fit. i have researched and it seems kbc makes helmets in china for fox one and tld among others. i also tried to find out where agv helmets were made but couldnt figure it out. so why would people suggest a fox or tld instead of a one helmet if they are made in the same factory?

if i wanted to spend roughly 250 usd (i dont mind if its all white) which would be a good buy based on safety?

just because the company is based in italy it doesnt mean their helmets are made in italy. just like fox based in the us who happens to have their helmets made in china. now if you know for a fact they were made in italy the agv helmets seem like a great buy.

And on the topic of the thread, I love my TLD SE3 - very light and comfy...The only down side to the TLD helmets in my opinion is that the damn cheek pads never stay in. I have owned Shoei, Bell and Arai in the past and I feel my TLD is on the same level as all of these with the added bonus of a TLD design.
