i have been to alot of night races at different tracks. and the problem always is lighting especially if there is any elevation changes. they did this with motogp this year but that was on flat ground out in the middle of the desert and with out step ups and doubles and ruts. hope they know what there doing.

Somebody must be making money off this night race. Or it probably wouldn't have been done.

Yeah I heard the Electric Company is pretty happy about it.

I am an Electrical Contractor/designer/engineer, if it is done "right" there will not be a problem. It all depends on how much they open there wallet. There is a huge difference between portable lights and stadium lighting. I am sure they ran a Photometric study. But I believe the height of the light is very, very critical for moto

I am not a fan of the rental, multi 1000/1500 watt portable units for sports lighting, the height of those lights might shine/glare/blind the fuck out of the riders eyes, especially jumping. If they use enough of these it might work, especially since ts kind of a flat track. If the lights they use dont have some serious height above the track you will hear the riders complain

Here in so cal we have three small tracks with lights:

Starwwest sucks, period. In fact I think it is dangerous

Milestone, the have 400/750/1000 watt fricken wall pacs mounted to wood poles, very far from the right light fixture and lamp needed for a sports facility

Perris is the best we have, and this year they installed a lot of stadium lights mounted to very tall poles, its not bad at all as far as the lights go. But looking at the electrical apparatus they have to make the lights work, wow it looks like a mess that they just kept scabbing on. And they have generators there instead of permanent power, strange for long term cost.

Lighting up a track right and permanent is very, very expensive and dont forget that big monthly electric bill. We are lucky to have Perris to ride on at night.

I used to love to race Mosier on Friday nights. They probably had the equivalent of 4 60w bulbs for the whole place. Woohoo

No shit. I was sorry to see Mosier go, but not the night track.

It will be a lot brighter than that.

Its not gonna be that dark at all. Night MX is nothing new, its been done all over the world for 30 years. People act as if this is completely unprecedented. If its done right it won't be an issue. Would be very cool to attend, night events are much better to watch a race from a spectators point of view.

Well you guys just wait a few hours.
I am going back to the track tonight and do some testing under the lights. They are testing them tonight and we shall see.

I was at Freestone and the night race for the pit bikes.. I sure hope its brighter than that.

check out the link to thunder valley's website on the main page... now I think it being too bright might be a problem. That shit is well lit. Better than daytime, because the sun isn't gonna set, to blind you in one spot then cast shadows on the rest.

At least half the tracks out here in AZ run under lights. Some are good, some are bad. If done right, there shouldn't be a problem. It should definitely be a lot cooler, which is a good thing (except for the fact that the chicks will prolly be wearing more clothes). Wish I was gonna make it out this year, but too many conflicts. You guys have fun & enjoy the cooler spectating...//TJ

guess them lakewood folks need to come to TEXAS to see how to light a track....
Anything that flat and boring is going to be easy to light.

It looks like from some pics that it will be very well lit.

It will only be cooler is because the daytime high is only predicted to be 82 . The only racing that will be at dark is the last ten minutes of the 250's and the second 450 moto.

SX are run at night, Nationals are run during the day. This is how DMG is going to compete with LN.
