Polished Frames Yay or Nay?

Edited Date/Time 2/7/2012 7:13pm
I've seen quite a few bikes out there with polished/shiny frames and I kinda like the look of it but don't know if it's worth doing. Just want to know from you guys,
-Do you think it looks good or bad?
-Is it worth doing or does it affect the frame in any way?
-Do you guys have any tips or pieces of advice on how to or not to do it?
Any advice would be helpful.

Cheers!

Don't do it, if you do it once they will turn black every time you ride it and you will have to continously do it to keep it clean.

And yes it does also jack with the chassis .... To what extent you or I would feel I don't know but I have heard it multiple times and personally I never cared for the look plus like mentioned above its a LOT of maintenance

You must be a glutton for punishment to polish your frame.

If you want to keep your frame looking good, without spending an inordinate amount of time on it, a few seconds with a scotchbrite pad works wonders.

Polish away, as long as you are willing to run the appropriate grips.

I made this mistake on a GSXR I had. Only once. I learned 2 things, its to much work to get it good and polished and it's just plain retarded to take something that is low maintenance and have to fuck with it all the time to keep it looking good.

I did it to my bike and it looks sweet when you first do it but like the others said its a pain to keep looking nice and after the first ride it wears away from your boots.

MX bikes should be ridden, not polished. If you want to polish instead of ride, get a Harley.

I do the upper part and I use a polish called Hoosier metal polish, it is the best. The initial polish time takes the most but once its done it takes no time.I repolish this every 4-5 rides and it takes me about 2 min. per side.[/img]

Yea it sure would suck to have to put down the pressure washer wand and do a little bit of hand scrubbing

I polish the upper part of mine only, it's really not that big of a deal. Just standard metal polish and an old sock. Probably 15 minutes the first time you do it, and a couple of minutes to touch up every few rides. I have far more time to piddle with my bike than I do to actually ride at this point in life (wife, kids, work, etc.) so I don't mind that extra few minutes in the garage between rides.

I do the same part, I use mothers Mag and aluminum polish. Shine it up every few rides. Mothers polish is also great on Gold Series Pipes or Platinum ones, make them look brand new.
