Tank covers from the 70`s. They were supposed to save the paint on your tank from your knees. After one ride when you took it off you realized that the dust and dirt seeped between it and the tank sanding your tank for you like 80 grit.

I will take exception to engine plugs. Well they dont have to be ano I suppose but I had to get some aluminum ones for my daughters '10 yz 250F. Stock plastic kept coming out, I think the wrap around rubber on the tech 5 boots kept un-screwing the timing cover. And on the radiator hoses, if your going to make aftermarket silicone hoses, why not color them? same with the engine plugs, I would have got them if they were raw, but they weren't. I bought them for function not fashion.

83 was the last year Kawi had the fender-plates. When I was a kid I thought they looked trick. Oh and in '81 aftermarket water cooling kits on YZ 80's were the shit, hell a friend of mine even had a YZ 60 with W/C.

Not really a gimmick but those number one stickers Yamaha used to put on the bikes seemed impossible to remove when I was a kid.

ghost plastic, it was tinted various colors. those crazy neon chains. debruiser. devol solid wheels. nost fenders. rear master cylinder extensions. lbz gear. krause kannon neon pipes. im 54, and honestly feel modern bikes are the fastest bikes ive ever owned but, going from a 216 pound bikes in the 90s to a 250 pound bike of today isnt progress to me.

How about the arm-pump surgery (elective) that was so en vogue about 15 years ago? Seemed like everyone was getting that for a while. What happened to that practice?
