Never really liked 250 two strokes, always rode 125's until about 5-6 years ago and have been on a 250f since then. Looking into possibly getting a ktm 150sx or a kx250f (both '12). The 250f is about $500 more. I don't race much more, just turned 40 so maybe will hit up a couple of vet races this year. Was able to be competitive at local vet races in the past riding my 125 and 250f, so not too worried about running the small bikes vs 450's. I'm not very big, around 5'6 and 150lbs so not too worried about the 150 being able to pull me around, just worried I won't like it after getting lazy riding 250f's the last couple of years. Pro's of the 250f are that I know what I'm getting, it will pull my lazy old self around corners without too much work and there might be a little bigger market for it when trying to sell it. Pro's of the 150sx is it will probably have a higher resale value to those that are looking for that bike (not many around), sounds like those that have them have a good time on them, and maintenance that I can comfortably perform. Any input from those that rode both?
Regardless, the 150 gets my vote. I'll admit right now that I might be a little (or a lot) biased. My 2008 144 was absolutely the most fun bike I've ever ridden and I wish I never sold it. As far as starts go, you'll have no problem grabbing good starts. I'm looking for another to replace it.

can`t wait for this next coming summer !!!
And I've had the $2200.00 and $2400.00 blow ups on the YZ250F and CRF250 and both were well maintained low hour bikes.
Just sold the 450 after $1400 valve job and topend etc. and bought a 250SX. All 2 strokes now and having more fun than ever.
Plus I can do my own rebuilds.....at $150
Valves will normally only snap off like that when there are worn valve train components. Basically what I'm saying is - if you buy a 250F thats a couple of years old, you better be prepared to rebuild every bit of that valve train from valves, valve guides, valve seats, valve springs and retainers, timing chain.. the list goes on.... or risk the picture above.

it's not IF, but WHEN
had it rebuilt by the dealership i bought it from and sold it a week later, paint on the frame hadn't even rubbed off yet. bill was just over 2k.
But having said that id pick the KTM over the Kawi 250f any day.
KTM did pick up the final bill on the last blow up, and replaced the entire engine at the cost of $4600.
They can all blow up......... We've had 11 4 stroke bikes since this ktm, and have never had an engine problem with a 4 stroke.(Yamaha's, Suzuki's and now Kawi's)
Wouldn't buy another used 250f though, its just too risky.
If it was my money I'd go with the 150. Those new kawi's are super fast, but a guy here has had issues with his 2011 forks, and is seems pretty common when he dug a little deeper.
