Anywhoo, time to get riding. Finally some days off coming. Anyone know what chain and sprokets wear like unobtainium any more? Ive been off for about 5 years, and my sons CR450F needs sprockets and a chain. What is a good, all around tire that wears the best, cause I dont have alot of time to change them. He will be doing mostly practice riding, on the track at the farm, that is probably average dirt. Not too hard, not too soft. I was thinking on trying a Maxxis.

As far as tires go, I recommend the Dunlop STFU 952. Hooks up on farm tracks with average dirt. Sayin

Just about any name brand sprocket is good. It is the chain that really counts. I do have one that I recommend not buying. I got a Renthal chain and sprocket combo. The sprockets are alright and I figured I would try out the Renthal chain because they said it was the best match for the sprocket and of equal quality to a DID ERT. It wasn't even close. The Renthal chain is junk compared to the DID ERT. Go with a DID ERT or better chain. The cost is the same.

I would go with the Vortex sprocket with the RK gold chain. If not the AFAM stuff wears like iron .

I know your pain, I had new bikes sitting in the garage for a couple of months due to a back injury in December, not been back riding long but loving it.

As for the tire my bro used to run the Maxxis, he only raced the odd time and practiced more with us, that thing used to last forever.

Well, actually, he will be changing the tire and sprockets himself, with my guidance. He doenst have alot of spare time either, due to comptetive level hockey, and work on the farm. He has dryland and power skating 3 to 5 days a week, and we have a TON of work to do this summer. First thing he will be doing, is pulling the stump pan off my dozer, so we can replace the hydraulic hose that has burst. Then, he can start building the new track, cause the old one is in our old yard site.
He has already changed the water pump seal on his CR450F, and will gladly do his tire and chain and sprockets. Its just something the old man should be there to help, and guide.
And, he rides the roads a bit to his freinds place, so that really eats tires, chains and sprockets. But, most of the time he takes the quad. Thats why Id like a tire that might sacrifice a bit of traction, but wears like iron.
My bike is a 2008 KTM 450. I need to go up a tooth on the back sprocket. It feels a little tall in second for starts. Im 6' 2" and 240, so it needs to be a bit lower in 2nd. I cant wait to get riding. I only farm on the side, 800 to 1000 acres. I should sell out, cause since I started, I havent ridden at all. I had a brand new 2006 KX450 that I rode about 5 hours, and the boy rode about the same.
What Maxxis tire is it that wears good? Is it the intermediate one?

English translation? Smile Max, Any of the IT tires is decent. I mostly run Dunlops, but have had good luck in the past with Maxxis, though I didn't like their fronts very much. I've had good luck with Tag & AFAM sprockets, & any decent chain. Depends on what kind of riding is mainly done, but if you're looking for longevity & less maintenance, maybe go with an O-ring. I run X-rings, but only ride tracks, so O-ring is not necessary. Hope you get a chance to ride that rig soon. My kids are into hockey as well, & it's become far more expensive than riding, not to mention more time consuming...//TJ
