I thought that the POS Yamaturd was a "heavy pig"? What does that make the KX, KTM, and RMZ then? I don't like seeing information like this because I like to blame my shitty riding and complete lack of talent on my POS Yamaha boat anchor.

YZ450f, second lightest 450! I hear a lot of people say it's soo heavy but it's lighter than the kawi by 4 pounds and 6 over the Suzuki! All the bikes should be honda lightweight though, 13 pounds less than the suzuki! I know the RMZ is a good bike, but man that's a big difference for a stock bike. The FI 250's seem to be very close in weight, unsure why honda gains such an advantage on the big bikes??

Yes, they are too heavy and we would all like super light bikes.
If it bugs you that much don't buy one.or is just cool to bag on 4 strokes?

I always thought it was funny how heavy MX bikes were but when you're riding them and they're in the air when you jump they don't feel THAT heavy.

I think my F4i weighs about 400 lbs but when im riding it, it feels awfully light.

Alittle off-topic but I sat on a newer GSXR1000 at the shop and couldn't believe how light it felt compared to my CBR.

The CRF's feel really light too (they thin!)

I went from a RM250 to RMZ450- which is 22 pounds heavier according to this. (it's hard to get accurate weight figures, so thx MXA).
It felt 22 pounds heavier.

I won't buy one and yes it is cool to bag on 4 strokes, but more on the 4 stroke defenders than the bikes. Grinning

Hmmm......maybe JS7 made a wise choice after all. Lighter bike (YZF 6 pounds lighter than RMZ), better motor, slimmer with JGR mods, Showa forks, JRI shock, Pirelli tires........ could be why James seems to like his new YZF!

What do you think?

Might have to agree w/ you MXTR; JGR has the know how and the engineering to get the bike to where James would like it. I think JS7 will be a player if he gels well w/ the bike over the season...

I don't ride a 450 four stroke so I don't really know, but I keep hearing 450 guys say, "I was riding along and everything was fine and the next thing I knew I was getting pasted into the ground." You have to wonder if the mass of the bike really makes it feel stable unless you get out of shape, and then the combination of a lot of mass and a very high center of gravity makes the thing seem like it just loses its mind and pitches the rider over the fence.

The point is, weight isn't just an annoyance while you're riding, it's also a factor in turning a simple swap into a catastrophic crash.

I'd tend to agree, these were my exact sentiments after racing a KX500 for a few years. The 450s are open class bikes and we were all basically manipulated into accepting them as a replacement for the 250 2-strokes.

Good point, back at the start of the end for 500s everyone said a 60HP bike was uncontrollable...here we are 15 years later and we have stock bikes up around 57hp..they are making power everywhere, so they don't feel fast (but they are).

Maybe part of the reason you see so many small guys that move from the 85 straight to a 250f getting hurt?
