Dowdy used to race bikes built in his junkyard, so this shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Man, i forgot about that.

So assuming this story has legs, that would make six brands as a pro. Anyone else done that?

Travis Preston maybe?

Began his Pro career on a MotoXXX Suzuki..then FBF Husqvarna...then Honda, KTM, Kawasaki and finally ended up with JGR Yamaha...but I can't remember if he ever actually raced a SX on the Yamaha?

As the sang goes......... you do what you gotta do to support your family. If this helps Dowd support his family, good for him. He should be congragulated.

Congrats Dowd. You're a legend.

Preston has been on all of the big six brands as a factory or support rider.

Travis was part of the super-sized Chapparal Yamaha Team in 1997 with Factory Phil, Button Fly, Chad Pederson, Michael Brandes and Greg Schnell.

I would venture to guess that any racing Dowdy does these days is for fun and not to support his family....

That is one FUGLY Bike. Either the top is extremely narrow or the bottom is extremely fat (I think a bit of both). Radiator Shrouds look like they stick out a foot, clutch actuator in plastic on the outside of a vary fat clutch cover. Hopefully it appears much better in person than in the pics. Looks like a bunch of left over parts my 8 year old threw together in the garage.

Guessing by the Kawasaki banners hanging up in the pictures that he could probably get a a Kawi to ride if he wants to.
I purchased a new 511 Husky a couple of months ago and it is an awesome bike,I bought a 2011 RM 250 at the same time and havent run it in yet.

I would love to take that motor apart...Huh Hey, if Shayne King can come out on a ktm "800" and run up front at southwick against rc then dowdy can do it on a husky. Even though the engineering looks super awkward on that thing...

i say he keeps the 16. its gpnna get husky some attention . they make them work well for worcs where dowd has had some great finishes. how many points does he need to keep the number 16? i know at one time one moto in the top 20 was enough.

A rider needs to score at least 25 points to hold their number now. Is Husky even going to homologate the 449 for AMA pro motocross? Like has been already said, if Dowd races any nationals it will probably be on the Kawi.

Agreed, Husky knows full well that the 449 is not MX worthy.

It blows my mind how all these people make their comments with no idea about anything. Hell I used to race a Cannondale. The bike was damn good. Maybe not a "Big 4" but good none the less.

Nothing offends me about those Huskies more than the goddamn front number plate. It looks like it has an identity crisis between an enduro headlight and a snow shovel. I really have to wonder what ignoramus was responsible for designing that thing - surely someone completely out of touch with the sensibility of present day motocross enthusiasts. In my opinion, KTM has the absolute best aesthetic. The design of those Huskies is all sorts of fugly.

While I may not be a big fan of that 4 stroke Husky, this little gem is drop dead sexy.

I love my TXC 250 (not an MX guy), but idk about the 449. There is a probably a reason the factory team ran (and won) the WEC with Meo and the 310 instead of the 449 last year.
