Yeah, we're in the midst of the off-season, but anyone who's hung out on message boards know that members frequently judge riders based on how they think they should perform, without much knowledge of what's going on with them during the week, and whether they've had any injuries, illnesses, etc.

For example, last week Dean Wilson bounced his chin off the bars during his first day back on a Supercross track, which required a couple stitches. Then there's Josh Grant, who did this one last Monday.

Let's just say that if you're trying to load a bike into your truck without a ramp, you need to be mindful of where your fingers are around the brake rotor.

Oh, and Josh rode practice at A Day In The Dirt today, and will be racing this weekend.

That's nasty. Good point though Mr. GuyB.

I know from experience just what you're talking about. The only reason I'm not competing on the AMA circuit is a LONG string of just such injuries. Broken bones, smashed fingers, huge bruises, splinters, headaches, hangovers, and sand in my vag have all held me back from reaching my full potential.

My buddy had the same thing happen...tried to lift the bike by grabbing the swingarm right next to the rear sprocket/chain...completely crushed his entire index finger in the sprocket and had to have a large pin inserted into the tip of his finger

I damn near broke my leg loading my bike up a wet, slippery ramp after a days ride, I was tired.
my LEFT leg was pinned between the bike and the truck bed, as I hung off the side.

Luckily, my wife saw what was happening and grabbed it off my leg. good thing I have strong bones.

Get well soon, guys !

I was doing the running start to get up the ramp so you can step on the stand and up to the tailgate. So the bike hits the ramp, the ramp starts to slide, i'm trying to stop the bike bafore it gets under the tailgate causing damage, the ramp pivots on the edge of the gate comes back and whalops me square in the forehead. The worst part was for the the next week I had a knot on my forehead and had to retell the story of how stupid i was.

Ha ha I did that loading a bike up about 5 years ago only it was my thumb. They stitched the nail back on like that so the new one would grow in. Yeah it kinda hurt.

I had my entire index nail ripped out a few years ago and they re-attached it in the same manner. A loop through the nail and then the finger in all four corners. It was a trip watching them do it. They numbed the finger first...and I didn't feel a damn thing when they pushed the needle through my finger tip four times. Good fun.

I put my hand down one time in a bowl turn when my front wheel slid out and my handlebar end smashed my index finger splitting it right down the middle. one of the ends was sticking through my mesh thor gloves and I couldn't take it off without snagging it like 100 times. I was 14 when that happened and i cried like a lil girl not gonna lie. Shit was mad painfull.

I ran my hand through a tablesaw a while back and had some stiches through the nail of one of my fingers.Damaged four fingers all together and lost half my baby finger.I watched the hole time the doctor was doing it.I even tried to count the stiches but when he had to cut some bone out i had to look away.Same thing with me they froze my fingers and i did not feel a thing until the freezing wore off, then there were lots of pills involved.lol
Hey Josh i am glad it wasn't any worse and we will get to see you race.

Have to say I have gotten the tip of my ring finger cut off the same way. It squirted like a fat tick popping and ruined my day of riding! The nail on that finger still looks jacked up an this happened probably ten years ago!

Lost the tip of mine to a countershaft sprocket from a '75 YZ 125, back in '76.

The tip of my finger is what I'm talking about here, for clarification....

When I was 13 we were climbing an old pile of trees that had been cut down and then piled up and burned. The pile avalanched on us and my index finger got "popped" between two trees. It looked exaxtly like when you try and open an unripe banana and it pop's out the side. I had to have IV for a week because of the charcoal in my blood stream and had a full hand and arm cast with end cut open to see the pin in my finger with a 90 degree bend at top that the doc had me spin often to keep it loose for removal. Good times.
