Had to have one of these way back when. Sexiest bike ever, looked like it was doing 120 still on the stand. Found a lightly laid down 97 model in 99 and fixed it up. Within 200 miles I figured out that me and all the blue hairs out on the roads weren't going to be able to coexist. An older friend of mine put more miles on it than I did. Great bikes if you like rigid suspension and a thinly padded board disquised as a seat. Woohoo

i think that those 916 series duc's are the best looking bikes ever made, even today.

I have a couple of 2008 Ducati 1098's, one is set up for the track and the other one for the street.....
I actually did 14 track days this summer and had a blast at every one. Its still doesn't beat Moto though, so I hope I never have to give either one up..... Smile

You burn through rear tires pretty quick doing this. It might not be the fastest way through the turns, but it sure puts a smile on my face. I've got a CBR954 out in the garage somewhere too. I'll have to put that thing back together some day, but riding on the roads is like kissing your sister after going to the track. I'm too tempted to do stupid shit even at my moderately advanced age.

$110 at my local track, plus gas, plus tires, etc, etc.

Tires are the killer. I'll get 2 track days from a set of race take offs on the rear and maybe four on the front. Always fresh rubber for race weekends at $450 a set. Race gas at $25 a gallon adds up quick too. Who can say no to an extra HP or two on a race day?

Yeh around $200 for a day at a top tier track (Calabogie), Rubber every other trackday at around 300 (get to know a tire rep and buy 5 or 6 sets at a time).

There is NO way to experience open class streetbike until you get on a track, these bikes are deadly at any sort of pace on the street, so you don't open them up until you get on the track.

I will likely convert my CBR1000RR to track only this year, I only put 100 miles on the street this summer, and did about 16 trackdays.

I'm self employed and make a ridiculously small amount of money.

It's not how much you make, it's about how you set your priorities.

Lot's of guys in road racing tend to disappear for a year or two because they can't justify the expense. They turn up at track days after awhile, and then sure enough there they are on the line with you on a race weekend.

Supermotos are cheap to road race. You can huck one down the track at 100+ and they just slide. The porkbikes don't crash well. I've seen guys drop their bikes in the pits and do more $$ damage than I've done in my last three crashes combined.

Did a few years of road racing in the late 80s early 90s as a local pro's mechanic but have always ridden street. I dig all kinds of bikes but home built cool customs are at the top of my list right now. Did you guys see Roland Sands' latest crazy creation? He too one of 1500 Ducati Desmodicis (motoGP replica) and made a street tracker out of it. One of the coolest motorcycles I've ever seen.

I've had this 1977 KZ1000 for 27 years. Many mods but next is a full on Busa' suspension update using hand machined triple clamps, rear sets, engine plate etc. that my friend builds one at a time. (the slick and struts is from a drag race weekend)

This little Honda was my summer 2011 project. Low budget, everything period correct, and done the way the original Cafe' racers would do it: in the garage with whatever's available, recycled parts, fabricated parts and lots of hours of grinding, polishing, cleaning, painting etc etc. I LOVE how it turned out and it's an absolute blast to ride! I giggle like a schoolgirl whenever I ride it! Tongue

My next project (also a Cafe' racer) is a VERY rough 1972 Kawasaki S2 350cc, 3 cylinder 2 stroke that has been sitting in a manure pile for about 20 years lol. The only parts Im using are the frame, engine and gas tank. It's going to be a challenge!! lol

I can't be trusted with a sport bike and found the wife really enjoys riding 2 up so I bought this last fall. This is how it looked when I bought it.

And this is how it sits today, we put 35,000 KM on it this summer, including a 35 day trip to the West Coast and most of the Western USA.

Subaru owners? Nope, but you might have seen this bike from http://www.bikeexif.com/ which is nice, but it's basically just a clean bike with a bunch of bolt on parts. Anyone can do that. I built mine from scratch out of three junkers and thats what it's all about for me.

Heres the build thread I did on DoTheTon.com

07 gsxr . 80mph wheelies are fun, but no comparison in fun to the dirt.

Got my license on a Yamaha 600 that was similar to this.

Fun to cruise around on and sips gas. If everyone rode one of these, global warming would be a non-issue Smile

i don't know if the RD350 would really be considered a "gas sipper," it's a 2 stroke twin.
