Ok I've been wondering this but never posted...

Why exactly do the number plates on the new KTMs sit INSIDE of the rear fender? In other words, why does the fender overhang the plates? It looks goofy to me...

Other than that the bike looks AMAZING

Will admit it looks pretty sweet.

1) You do not have to disassemble the entire bike to swap out the combo number plate/ rear fenders but it is a bit more work than the average Jap bike. I don't see the big deal. Instead of 5 minutes on a CRF it takes like 8 minutes on an SXF. How often does one do that anyways?

2) Those plastics including the crazy front fender are the new plastics that are on all 2013 KTMs. Probably going to be on the 12.5 MY too.

3) The wooden screws that KTM uses to attach their shrouds to the fuel tank work so much better than the metal inserts that always seize or vibrate out on Jap bikes (and even my KTM Motard). Sometimes simple really is better.

4) The KTM 500 is a 4 stroke. There are no plans (that I'm aware of) to add a 500cc 2 stroke.

5.) The weight of the new 450F engine is supposed to be something like 6# lighter than last years version. That is basically the block w/o accesories The catch is that FI will likely add weight back in other ways. Adding a Shorai battery to a KTM to save 3-4# should be the first mod that any KTM rider does. I run one on my KTM Motard and it saved 5.9#.

I believe the overhang makes for an excellent spot with which to lift the rear of the bike.

Do all KTMs have the throttle cable behind the bars like that? Looks strange to me.
They do, I did the same on my Suzuki RM (because is used a KTM throttle) and it works fine. You can use a shorter throttle cable this way (less friction, and cheaper). You don't actually notice the friction but you get the point.

Anyway I think the KTM is BUTTUGLY Tongue

The 2007 to 2010 look lightyears better if you ask me.

to answer the original question, this is more or less the 2013 model sx, which Dungey will race from A1 2012 I think, so will be available around next may I guess.

Nah, those are this years graphics, just made by N style. The ones above on the 'New, New' bike must be what the team will run next year. Theyre not the euro ones because they also are made by Nstyle, whereas the euro ones are made in house by ktm.. Or just un-branded..

The orange rear fender is also another thing to look at. At fermo when Roczen was on the 125 it had an orange rear fender. As, Honda, TM and even arch rivals (as far as sponsors go) Monster energy Yamaha all run white. Perhaps KTM want to regain some individuality and got back to all out orange..

And... That's a completely different bike to the 450 we've seen before. Check the rad scoops. Smile

It's a start, I don't think it will end there. There is going to be KTM, and then there will be everyone else. And I'm not a huge KTM fan.

KTM already owns the "dirt bike" market. I'm not sure if you are talking sales or titles. Sales will be good for some time because of the off-road segment. No question there. It is also a function of the choices available. Will they have a slew of titles by then? Big bike titles? I say Dungey does not win a title while at KTM. KTM's first big bike title will either be with Roczen at some point or with someone that isn't on a KTM right now.

Speaking of Allessi. What the hell happened to him and the KTM at Hangtown in mid air? It's like the thing just bucked him off in the air? Looked like a clean nice jump then suddenly his ass gets sling shotted over the bars? That was a weird crash.

If i remember correctly , Mike said his foot got caught under the shifter when he tried removing it from the peg for balance , and he jerked on it so hard , he just started nose diving and couldn't get the front end to pull back up. That was one ugly wreck!
No kidding...! Alessi might be the dark horse on and off the track but any dude who can take that much punishment and not give up is top notch in my book.

You should count yourselves lucky. Estimated prices of the Cairoli/ Roczen edition KTM are in the £10,000+ range. Do the math: $17387.7.. You can bearly pick up a new Yamaha 2 stroke for the money you said. Not good for us brits..
