How did Reed and Stewart finish again this year?

Supercross Class
Pos. Name Points
1. Ryan Villopoto 338
2. Chad Reed 334
3. Ryan Dungey 328
4. James Stewart 301
5. Trey Canard 255
6. Andrew Short 230
7. Kevin Windham 207
8. David Millsaps 180
9. Justin Brayton 155
10. Nick Wey 152
What's really impressive about that, is Reed did it in his first year on his own team, and made MC and others eat crow. How many other non-factory teams got that close to winning in thier first year? And he was looking good to take the outdoors as well if not for that epic crash.

He done good.

Seriously.....some of you fucktards need to go invest in a 5 gallon bucket of vagasil. Stupid fuckin' noob.

chad reed is one of the greatest riders to ever swing a leg over a motorcycle- here he is in his finest hour, on a proper bike, the footage in this video is awesome, one of my favourite races of all time (chad and RC are on the edge, and going for it!)
its in 3 parts- if you have a spare 30 mins then please watch this. THIS is what a real bike sounds like, and how to ride it properly!

I don't get why everybody thinks James is better than Reed, Honestly he might be raw speed faster but look at the statistics and results, Chad is more consistent and could be considered a better rider since he has been on the podium more than James.

Can somebody actually give a valid reason why James is better??

Most base it on the fact that in the past, Reed could never beat RC or James for a title unless one of them got hurt. Reed in 2010 was a different rider though. I would call them equal this year, but I do see why some folks feel James is the better rider based on past seasons.

Heard the podcast...James said "he is for sure gonna take Reed out once before he(Reed) retires...I still owe him one for all the times he has gotten me" (it was long those lines and he said it in as nice a way possible)...hasn't james take reed out enough though??

How about 11 when Reed ran into Stew and then Stew proceeded to cut him off the remaining lap? They seemed to be on better terms at the beginning of the 11 season and not sure where they are now but saying nothing was there is ignorant. Funny how not always the fastest wins the races/championships. Hes far more then a "pimple", but thats my $.02.

Your right. Going at it since 02 motocross season to now where James flips Reedys bike off the stand, take each other out, smack talk. Your right...no rivalry (sarcasm)

They both have two SX championships, with Reed finishing ahead of Stewart in overall points four times to three.

I can't remember if they tied in points at the end of the series in 2006??? In that case, it would be four for Reed, two for Stewart, with one tie.

If there was no rivalry, you guys wouldn't be on here every week bashing one of the riders cause the other rider did better or one of the riders did this to the other rider.

Chad is one of the baddest men to ever throw a leg over a dirt bike, he pushed both RC and JS to new levels. How about 03 when Chad won more races than RC in that SX season, has anyone ever put more W's on the books than Ricky in a single season?? Im not sure that is why Im asking.
Speaking as a fan of both of these world class riders.

So yes, I believe Chad is not only a rival of James, but by far his biggest rival........

The biggest rivalry of this generation. No doubt about it. If you don't think it's a rivalry, you aren't that smart. Reed > Stewart. The statistics prove it.

Who's better, Stewart or Reed? I don't think there's really a right answer. It sorta depends on who you like, and obviously I'm a Stewart fan. I value race wins and passing ability above titles like 'most podiums over five seasons.'

Coming into 2009, Reed was the defending champ, on a new bike and loving it, and teamed with the best mechanic around. All of this comfort and confidence made him faster than he'd ever been and ready to take on Stewart, whom he assumed would crack under the pressure of his consistency + newfound speed. He really was magnificent that year in SX--perhaps Carmichael fast or faster--but Stewart was magnificent-er. Not only was he blazing fast, but he finally had the consistency to put it on top of the box round after round, in front of Mr. Consistency himself. That's why I consider James better.

(Plus James said that year that Reed was his toughest competition ever, if you want to believe that.)

My respect for both Chad and James on a supercross track went through the roof after watching that season on Youtube (didn't see it live), and I laughed at those who thought the Ryans of '10 would've had anything for them. HAHA, I said. But then RV showed up this year ready to fuckin' rock n roll, and now Stewart better do the same in 2012 or he's gonna be extra toast.

I've watched both race and I can't remember Reed beating Stewart in a SX race. Is that a valid reason?

Reed has somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 SX wins. Was James in any of those? I know RC was.

It's not a valid question when Reed has beat Stewart many times in a winning position, regardless if James gets a bad start or makes mistakes he has beat him. You only have to look as far back as the last SX race in Vegas and that was Stewart's mistake.

ON any given Day or Night there are atleast 5 guys that can win. I try not to compare them or judge them just simply try to enjoy the show and hope for great racing and nobody getting hurt. It's funny how some fans are so quick to jump on a guy they don't even know. Remember, even the guy that didn't make the main would lap you in a 2 lap race............

there is some good competition between reed and stewart...yes stewart has won a few more times when both were on the track but never has reed rolled over and played dead when stewart was ahead of him, he has always fought and believed that he could rise and win again

i am a stewart fan

reed is a stud, with a lot of stubborn determination...its amazing to watch and i cheered for him all year on the honda...

yes there is a rivalry...check out the wins list in sx history and as they both fight to increase that number, history will only look at that number, it won't look at who beat who for each of those wins...

both could be ahaed of rc in sx wins when they finish...(lets not discuss mx pleeez) ha

OK, ok I'll go ahead and jump in here too...........Laughing

I've seen James do things on a motocross bike that I couldn't believe my eyes. And nobody else did it.
James' worst enemy is James. It seems he just has a problem dialing the pace to stay ahead of everyone when he's out front and has the race in hand. I mean, he does magical manuevers on a bike, then pulls a boner over a 2nd or 3rd gear jump or whoop section and I'm like...."is that the same guy I just saw rocket over the quads!?"....wth?!

Chad is a very heady, sharp rider (and aggressive when he needs to be----sometimes on purpose). I dig Reeds style, probably the best out there, right next KDub I guess. But that little move Chad did to Stewart in 09 in Vegas-was it?
Where he ran right AT Stewart in that sweeper and deliberately tried to run James off the track....was pure bullshit.
Reed was bitter and took it out on Stewart. Couldn't believe I saw Reed do that...

They both are legends. Both will go down in history as phenomenal riders. One has managed to amass a better record at racing overall. Afterall...you have to keep your bike on two wheels to win. But...........if I had to lay money down on who will win this race I'm about to watch....Wink

"ON any given Day or Night there are atleast 5 guys that can win. I try not to compare them or judge them just simply try to enjoy the show"

From what I've seen in the past year or two:

On any given day: RV > RD > CR > JB > JS > TC > BM24

On any given night: JS > RV > TC > CR > RD > KW > JH75

You don't have to compare. It's already been judged so by the people. Cheerful

"Remember, even the guy that didn't make the main would lap you in a 2 lap race."

Funny and true. Or a one lap race, in my case. He'd nick me at the finish line.

Reeds move in Vegas, It was bitter for sure.
But in all honesty he was just exhausting his last opportunity to win a championship and it was to plain and simple remove James from the race.

I don't think I would of had the balls to do it.
And I do think it was poor on Chad for doing it.
But I do see where it came from.
But hey, its racing....stuff happens.

Imagine if it came off though, that move reminds me of some of the greats in Formula 1 (Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher) those guys would do anything within the rules to win a championship. What James did to Reed in 2002 was possibly on his mind and he probably thought stuff it I'll run him off the track for a chance to win the title, think of how big the rivalry would of been after that year if Reed did win the championship! James has a short memory of the things he has done to riders in the passed and he should of pulled off the track to let Reed pass.

Winning because the competitor is out through injury or any other reason is still winning.

"in it to win it"

Take that phrase that has been around for a long time and think about it.

I just happened to watch this last night, not because I saw anything to do with this post but because I got the itch to watch Daytona 2011 and Emig made a comment to Carmichael about "In 2005 you ended up on the asphalt while racing SX, have you ever been in the grass here in your truck?" so I just had to see this wipeout where a bike ended up on the pavement and needless to say, it was an excellent race.

Thanks for posting those links for those of us that hadn't seen it yet :-)
