I don't pay much attention to UFC, but I was in a bar where they were showing tonights fight. I was surprised to see a fighter come to the ring come to the ring dressed in Metal Mulisha gear, just curious if this is a regular title sponsor for this fighter?

I had saw that tonight and was curious about it, too! I think the fighter was Nick Diaz. He beat the crap outta BJ Penn, which is awesome in my book!

Nick, his brother Nate and Strikeforce Lightweight Champion (and future UFC Lightweight champ) Gilbert Melendez are all sponsored by the Mulisha. Say what you will about Deegan, but he's taking moto into other sports.

Diaz is kind of a punk. Watch one of his interviews. They are extremely hard to sit and watch. Kid has ADD bigtime. Penn is my favorite fighter, so I am a little upset over his loss but it was an exciting fight.

I have to agree, I'm not the biggest Deegan fan, but he is getting MX/freestyle exposure in other sports. I bet the Metal Mulisha web site gets a lot of hits everytime one of their sponsored fighters goes to the octagon.

Penn had one hell of a run in the UFC. I'm not a fan of his, but I respect him for sticking around so damn long and giving us so many good fights through out his career!

Now bring on the Diaz vs GSP fight!

Kind of is an understatement. I've never been a fan of his. Bj penn 3 years ago smokes him, but father time has a way of catching up with fighters.

I'd think Deegan still makes the majority of decisions regarding the Mulisha, its his baby along with Link, and quite the cash cow.

It's surprising Condit was willing to step aside and let Diaz have his title shot. Maybe he was paid a lot of $$$ to do it.

As for the original topic, MM has been sponsoring fighters for at least a few years, and it's been a smart move, there is getting to be a lot of fight shirts for sale sporting their logos.

Not a fan of MMA, but it's a smart business decision for the MM based on the popularity of MMA..

It is impressive what Deegan and friends have done with the Metal Mulisha but it is beyond ironic that it is now a big money-making corporate entity, which is what they were railing against when they started the thing to begin with. I know, I know, they are still breaking all the rules.....ask their lawyers and accountants.

Probably wont ever happen. Diaz was suppose to fight GSP last night but backed out of it and took the Penn fight instead. However, if they do ever fight it would be GSP with another 5 round beatdown to a unanimous desicion.

Diaz and GSP are fighting February 4th, 2012. You are correct Diaz was supposed to fight GSP last night, but he didn't back out. Diaz was demoted to fighting Penn after missing two press conferences. Condit has agreed or was forced to allow Diaz to take his title shot from him in February.

So very true. But going into it, they probably didn't figure it would blow up like they did. X Games has helped the Mulisha for sure. Well that and the rapid growth of DGAF bro's world wide.. I got lots of respect for Deegan as a businessman though.

I didn't know this, but it is now under the umbrella of O'Neill (the surfing company). Yeah, I'm certain they were just trying to buck the system (but with an "F" not a "B"), but stumbled upon something with their spiked shoulder pads and such. They, as many do, stepped in shit and went with it. Nothing wrong with that. Plenty of the richest people in the world stepped in shit and are now considered geniuses in the business world.

Its not that I dislike him. I just think that he could try to come across better to his fans and the general public. That is after all where he gets his paycheck. However, if he wants to play the villain that sales tickets also.

Personally, I think Penn should never have quit working with the marvinovich bros. He was in the best shape of his life. If you need proof go look at his fight with Diego Sanchez.

So, not to totally hijack this thread. Smart marketing move for MM to get some MMA guys endorsed. MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and it carries over to MX also. Just my 2 cents.

That's not what happened at all. Diaz missed 2 or 3 press conferences and was pulled from the fight.

Probably won't ever happen.................what, are you new or something, do you even read up on MMA??????

Diaz got pulled over his press conference stunt. He got put on as the co-main event against Penn. GSP came up limp the week before his fight, so Penn and Diaz were moved up to the headliner. After the fight, Diaz called out GSP and now, the fight is on, it will probably happen Super Bowl weekend and will be a huge card for MMA.

Nobody had anything negative to say about Deegan in here, matter of fact, he was getting a lot of props.

Right, I look at it as Diaz not coming to the press conferences was his out by getting pulled. I said it probably wont happen due to Diaz finding another way out. If the fight does happen though, it will without a doubt be another 5-0 round beatdown that GSP will deliver to him.

Matt Sera is the reason GSP will probably never lose again until age catches up to him. The dude could be a bum off the street and GSP will never take any aggressive chances and only take advantage of whats given to him and capitalize his opponents mistakes.

Not true. Both companies are managed by and their merchandise distributed by the La Jolla Group, as is FMF's apparel division and a few other companies.

I'm not sure Diaz would want to get pulled on purpose, that is a lot of money , exposure and PPV bonus to lose out on. If you are saying that he and his camp planned this WHOLE scenario......sign with UFC, ink GSP fight, get cut from fight, ink Penn fight on the same card, beat Penn, call out GSP and ink that fight again on one of UFC's biggest fight weekends(superbowl). If all that was strategy, then him and his people are fucking genius.

I to hope that GSP pounds the shit out of Diaz (Penn did for a few minutes), but I don't see GSP playing that game, the closest he's been to that was the JAB-fest beat down he put on Koscheck, but not many were K.O power punches.

Short of Diaz not getting licensed for whatever reason, I don't see Dana pulling Diaz even if he no shows again, there's just too much money in this fight.
That being said, Nick Diaz is an incredibly aggressive fighter and he will get GSP out of his comfort zone. That doesn't mean I think he'll win, but it certainly won't be the usual GSP lay and pray we've seen in the past.
