Since it's not going to be the success expected looks like they are going to shove the motors in their new KTM 350 Freeride. A light and simple enduro bike for the sunday rider who just want to go ride the woods. Cool concept! Just kidding about putting the 350F MX engine in there

in fact you are kinda wrong......
i would say ktm just found a way to use the chassis they developed for their electric bike.......
the electric project was said to be put on hold, and now the prototype they had shown. also called freeride...... shows up with a petrol engine on it.......

At 99 Kg or 218 pounds it's the prefect little on-off bike if the trails don't get too nasty.

Down on horsepower a bit, but I've run my CRF450 on the street before and it's an expensive proposition when you factor in the maintenance cost and the wear and tear from consistent highway speeds. They've de-tuned it for reliability and sound regulations. I'll bet a pipe adds 5-10 horsepower on this bike with how choked up they've made it. They've got a 350 superduke coming down the pipe soon too.

The 350 is KTM's best selling model so they've found their market already. It might not be popular with the pros, but the amateurs and the vets are loving it.

Imo..... Jfk should use that bike for 1st year riders like roczen and musquin moving up to the 450 class as a transitionary bike so they can read into the class and not relearn how to ride the bigger bike style they could still utilize their wfo riding style to their advantage as roczen did very well on that bike in sx and I don't doubt for a second that he couldn't do the same outdoors based on both his 250f rides at the mxdn..... That would make perfect sense to me and will keep the bike selling ....when you put a vertebrae 450 guy on the bike they don't do as well but a lites groomed rider could ride the wheels off that bike and I believe do VERY well.

I like the freeride bike, just wish it was a little lighter. For example, the Beta 2012 EVO 300 4-stroke Trials bike is 156.5 lbs. dry. The 2-stroke version is 149.9 lbs, which isn't that much lighter. If KTM wanted to really make a cool freeride bike than it should be somewhere around 190-200 lbs. Why does it have to be so heavy?

Actually what we are doing with them (I am a KTM dealer) is selling them. The best selling MX bike KTM has ever had. And the offroad versions..waiting list bikes.

Did they? What we know is they won on a bike that didn't have to be a 350.

Wow, good for them. The 350 would be the perfect machine, expecially if it was lighter.

I wouldn't mind having one of those in my garage if the price is decent.

Bingo. I own a four stroke 300 Evo, and the motor is extremely compact compared to those of any other 4T trials bikes. Also has a significant amount of influence from the old RFS motors, too. It would make the absolute best power plant for this type of bike.

It's only been less of a sucess in the US -(I can rhyme lol!) Becuase of the riders.. I laugh at people who say "ow the 350's $hit" or whatever. Fact of the matter is, although I like Short, he's never going to compete against RV, RD, Reedy or Bubba. Is he? As for Alessi. Well, believe the hype. Right? He's done nothing his entire career and never will. All the videos from him over the last couple of weeks of him riding a hybrid mx/ sx track, (which I doubt many others had a chance to practice on) same thing again. The amatuers (on 250f's!!) were running pretty equal lap times!

Besides, anyone see the des nations? Roczen? Pass Dungey and pretty much everyone else out there.. On a 250f..? If it was completely down to horsepower, surely he'd have finished 21st (behind all the 450 riders) right? Plus, Cairoli? Once again a bad des nations meant no comparrison, but after the first crash he had, he was the fastest man on the track for several laps. He was on a 350..

This 350 'thing' is like the freeride thing we've seen in ktm ads for the past 3/4 years. And the interesting thing about it, is the tank. I can see that it goes all the way back to the airbox, but look at the depth.. I'm no enduro rider, but 'freeride' and I can go for 20mins before I need fuel, doesnt make it a very free ride.

On a positive side, at least KTM expand their lines 24/ 7. Even if it is a minor sucess. KTM's are getting more money and power, whilst the Japs fall out of the market.. If more of them took a look into other projects, not in any way like this 'freeride' but, more 2 strokes (and developed ones at that! Not just new triple clamps/ a nice bodge up job, to accept the 250f fender!) they'd see an increase in their sales. Everyone wants a new 2 stroke, Ktm's have got em'. Every pro wants money, Ktm has it. Dungey, got. Decoster, got. Roczen, got. Herlings, got. Cairolo, got. Musquin, got. Everts, got. Sounds dominant to me..

It's been well established that lap times don't mean shit, smaller bike is faster going into turns or downhill but slower coming out or going up hill. When the smaller bike is in a drag race or has to turn inside of a 450 is when lap times go out the window.

So far, the only guy that seems to like the 350 is the one that doesn't actually have to be on a true 350.

Who also could possibly be head and shoulders above everyone else he is racing? Maybe on a 450 he is even better? We may find out since he is contemplating riding the 450 in 2012.
