Hi my name is Joey Rossi,
I ran the lites class in the 2011 Outdoors Nationals, I had a pretty good season as a privateer. My four stroke blew up four times, at Southwick and Lakewood I was running in the mid teens, three laps to go it grenaded. Thousands of dollars each time. As a privateer this was devastating. Its very difficult to compete against guys who have 17,000 cranks alone, and numerous motors to exchange. I think the experience that I have gathered through this 2011 season has led me to the conclusion that the teams and privateers that continue to run a four stroke, in this economy, are not sustainable with the high cost. I have made a choice to run a KTM 250 two stroke in the Supercross class, and will continue into the outdoors on it. My reasons for doing so are:
1: The bike is 30 pounds lighter than a 450.
2: The bike is 2,500 dollars less off the MSRP than a 450.
3: The bike is nimble and flick able.
4: The top end only costs me 100 dollars, and my dad can do it.
5: Probably the most important, its soooo much fun to ride!
Your question may be, "Can I be competitive on it?", and the answer is a big, "Yes". I raced an 09 KTM 250sx in the A class's, through the regionals , specifically the Mill Creek south east regional, and Lorettas. Here is the link to the result: http://www.racer-results.net/results/mxsports/2009/AreaRegional/results…. Also at Lorettas, both 250A and 250 Pro Sport, top tens. I am hoping by me doing well in the Supercross class, that other teams and privateers will begin to wake up and run this wonderful bike before its to late.
If you would like to be a part in bringing back the excitement of the two stroke sound, the competitiveness of the bike, and affordable racing, any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. I have set up a pay pal account. Any large contributions can certainly put you on my website and graphics. That is a promise.
