It won't be long before electric bikes can deliver more power with less weight than an internal combustion engine.

replacemnt for conventional gasoline , ie something synthetic

technology is moving FAST..will the energy companies stop being greedy?

if i was smart enough to be a chemist/chemical engineer...id be afraid for my life if i came up with an alternative. energy companies have enough money to do whatever they want and get away with it

anyone who lives in the fracking regions of PA and NY will attest to this

here in the uk its the sound of the motors that is killing the sport. 20 mins from where i live is a new track built by a top american track building firm and it hasn't been allowed to run because of a Lady moaning about the noise yet from the track you can see a motorway and the eurostar raillink

Once they get lipo batteries to not explode, they will take over gas everything. Anybody that's even a little into RC cars knows this.

Yes. Indoors. I think electric bikes will revive the indoor motocross scene in cold-weather areas. The problem we've had here are that fumes become overpowering and if you vent the place enough to keep your eyes from watering and your lungs functioning, you freeze your ass off and the owner / operator pays a huge (futile) heating bill.

I think some wise entrepreneur will open an indoor facility and have a fleet of rental electric bikes for us midwesterners to use to keep sharp in the winter. I would pay a small fortune to NOT have to load my bike up in the freezing cold and haul it to a riding facility in a 12mpg truck with gas at 4 bucks a gallon. In the summer it would be nice to be able to occasionally stop by a facility on the way home from work and pound out nice quiet, clean laps for an hour before dinner, rather then loading up the rig and driving 2 hours to the nearest track out in the boonies.

Been racing 1/8th nitro this past year and picked up a 1/8th electric to run too. I drove it probably 10 times and sold it. Thought it was going to be the answer; no engine tuning, no noise, no fumes and crazy power. Turns out (IMO) it was boring as hell. Nitro Trug & Bug for me...

Definitely hear you on the lipo thing, had a defective one go off in the garage, still need to repaint...ehhh

I used to think E-mx was the way of the future, it still might be but now I'm not that excited about it...

There are many good things about electric but most batteries start losing power immediately.Though they may have more power than a 250F,they only have that for a short time and the majority of their stated charge time is spent at a constantly degrading power level.Trying to figure out jumps and such with less power every lap sounds interesting though.
Something like a lithium ion has full power right along until, all of a sudden,it has none. That sounds sort of fun too.
I don't see electric replacing anything but indoor arena riding or something like that for a while yet.I'd still sooner dump gas in the bike than push it back home and sit around for a few hours and wait for it to recharge.
Maybe they'll sell them two for one so you can ride one and charge one. That might work......

10%? That's a whopping 2ft/lbs. A 250 2 stroke makes around 10ft/lbs more, sounds cooler and I don't have to plug it in and wait to ride.

would love to have one.....................I am not too sure how I feel about the whole sound issue. I think it may add another, more dynamic dimension to racing. Imagine if Villo, Reed, Stew, Dingey could talk to and hear the other racers during a race.....

Think about it....right now Villo tucks it under Dungey in a corner and roosts him on the way out, Dungey realizes his mistake and talks to himself about how he scewed-up

NOW think about THIS...Villo sees a line to the inside....as he pulls even with Dungey he yells out....."I got you Bitch, try and move over for me quicker next time. You were really holding me up." . Then roosts Dungey on the way out of the berm.

Totally different dynamic.

Sadly, experience has driven me to agree with your opinion. Add West Virginia to your list of states and Non corrupt lawyers, surveyors and politicians to your list of endangered species.

100% agree

but then again, 7 years ago,I hated the thought of owning a 4-stroke and now I love em.
Electric MX bikes are a huge jump though. Not sure if I can adjust to watching silent MX/SX races

These bikes will not take over mx. Period.

However, that bike looks cool and would be fun for a backyard track, that is all.

A guy in my town just built a track and is close to opening an electric track. He's a Zero dealer and plans to rent bikes and sell them. I personally think they will only hurt MX. It will hurt the fight to ride gas bikes.

Several years ago a granny mentioned that "they have" electric motorcycles now. This was at a meeting with the city about a MX track. The track got shut down.

I thought I might go rent a ride, just to experience what they are like. But after watching that video, NO. I've seen enough.
